  1. There hasn't been an surprises in the contracts, so they are still working with about the same money as at the start of the season. If anything, this may make it easier if they werre hanging some DH money aside incase it took more for these guys.
  2. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Can we consider a "Prince Albert?" Decided to fix your post . . .
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) That's all of that tolerance we are always hearing about... Tough situation, we toss him out and we're not tolerant of his opinions. Leave him "in" and we're branded as intolerant. Well played 2k5
  4. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) I was one that had extremely high hopes for her not so long ago. However, she has jumped on the 'rouge' persona the media helped create for her and ran with it, and that just doesn't govern well in my eyes. I still think she is alot sharper than most liberals gove her credit for, but would rather see someone else there. Isn't it about time for a Washington outsider to clean up this town? She is very sharp, and while the media can try all they want to discredit here, she's going to be a force in the next election. She is not going away, and only getting stronger. She links up with the right campaign team and katy bar the door.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) You are damned right I am. There is no coincidence that the more money is drained from the private sector, and the smaller the percentage of people paying taxes gets, the less jobs that gets created by those same sectors. I am sincerely trying to follow you here, and perhaps this is a needless tangent, but one of my concerns is outsourcing jobs by the private sector. How would that be factored in? My thinking is the government would be more likely to keep the jobs local. So what good is a recovery in the private sector if the jobs added/saved are in India?
  6. Now that my clock goes off at 5:05 am, I could care less who is on past 10:00 pm. I am so damn old.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) Dye turned down $3ish million from Texas. That means he is still looking for more money, I would agree for 99% of the players out there. Dye has shown that money is not always his #1 concern. Likely it is, but in this case, possible not.
  8. Not doing anything is always the easier way. I just have a feeling the goal is Kong at DH.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) Who was it in here that recently seemed convinced Palin would be our next President? I can't find the post, but I thought this was worth noting... She can't even get her own party to have more than 30% support for her to RUN, let alone win. I think she will run, and run well. I would not be surprised if she is the nominee.
  10. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) Ahh, okay then. I guess Jason didn't need any advice. Before we accept that, maybe he did need some advice.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 09:39 AM) Be careful how you make that statement. In reality the further up the ladder you go, the less of a percentage of funds is spent at the respective tax brackets. Now job creation is a different story, because these ARE the classes that create jobs, because they are the ones who can afford to take the risk of starting a small business. Largly you are correct, but many successful small businesses have been started with almost nothing. Not improtant to this thread, but I always enjoy the person who starts with $300 and an idea and makes it work.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) Dye needs to suck it up and either move to LF or 1B, or be a DH somewhere. fixed IMHO
  13. I wonder where on the "to-do" list this was.
  14. Who cares what he wants? He'll play where we allow him to.
  15. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) You what Tex, you may have a point. if we know all this crap beforehand, then we have nothing to be suprised about later. No need for the opposition to try and dig up dirt, we already know it and can choose to ignore it or not. But I still would not like that ticket. Saves us a lot of time, and perhaps starts yet another reality tv show
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) But tax cuts! Everyone agrees on Tax Cuts! It's the best way to increase the size of the government when all that new revenue rolls in, plus, someone else pays off the deficit. What's not to like?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 04:30 AM) Anyone use it or have a profile? It seems like it could be one hell of a tool for people looking for work/services, so I figured I'd see if anyone on SoxTalk had one... QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 07:06 AM) I have one, but I don't really use it. Every job opportunity, internship, etc., I have found via people I know, school or on my own. I think it something that if I take the time to build better and use it more as a tool than just a standing resume, it could be of good use. It's definitely not a bad idea to create one because it can't hurt. I reunited with a couple old friends that were not on Facebook, but professionaly, just haven't found any value.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) He can screw anything he wants so long as his policies make sense and he's got some good ideas (which I think he does). He's clearly the best name on that list. But that's not saying much. Palin - Newt I like it. Besides, who wants moral and ethical leadership? We never really get it anyway.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 16, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) kap, the point was that just because they created an effective and stable structure for government, doesn't mean that they were infallible and allknowing. There were a lot of stupid, short-sighted compromises made to create the constitution, including one to treat slaves as 3/5s of a person. Did they say that the gov't should be responsible for health care? No, but they also had no f***ing idea what modern gov'ts could be capable of. 3/5 ths was an improvement from being property along with the cows and plows. Don't forget the women as well. They knew there would be a need for changes, which is why there was a method for amendments. Let's all cheer Jackson the first President of the People! Major GOTV from the common man. Inspired people to vote in record numbers. Meanwhile, we'll forget the whole Trail of Tears misunderstanding.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) Companies have the absolute right to react to things that threaten their profitability. They also have the right to do what they want with the time they are paying people to be there. If they want to waste it on preaching to their employees, again that is their right. It is just as much of a right to those who are trying to put them through the wringer to get them to unionize. I agree with what you probably meant. Companies do not have the right to violate any laws in defense of their profitability. We could also discuss the moral and ethical responsibilities but I'm guessing I would probably have a longer list than you.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) OR California. yeah, sure, after all you DO own this place . . .
  22. Interesting business idea. I would not go, but I would buy some gift certificates for a few people here
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) Yeah but they were all dark skinned Muslims so who cares. It is all part of our "Manifest Destiny", not only sea to shining sea, but the rest of the "non Christian" world.
  24. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 07:57 AM) Depressing thinking about outdoor games right now when I dont have that option other than skiing and sledding. Unless you live in the great state of Texas fixed for y'all
