  1. My Senator's comments on CNN makes me realize again what an ass he is.
  2. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/...al_trouble.html. Prayers are with both. Sad.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) LINK Newt is one of the most intelligent leaders we have had. I am not surprised he did not dismiss Obama's candidacy.
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) So far this is all I see http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090119/ap_on_...wh/bush_pardons Nothing controversial there yet. Border Patrol agents who shot and killed an unarmed suspect (but known drug dealer), attempted a cover up, caught and duly convicted and sentenced. Had their sentences commuted by Bush. Controversial in some circles. Worries abound in some circles.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) It's already on mine, lol... but feel free. I think it's perfect. I added it to mine as well. And it is my new wallpaper. Great work, thanks.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) I'm typing from my g1 from a restaurant downtown. I didn't get to the mall, that was basically impossible. The energy was palpable from the TV.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) I really wish we practiced separation of church and state. We do. The government does not select or establish an official faith. We are free to worship or not, as we like.
  8. I just heard that the inauguration is anticipated to surpass the final episode of M*A*S*H as the most watched television event in the US, and should also break all world records as well. Hype? There is a whole lot of substance behind the hype.

QUOTE (mreye @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) Yes. My wife brings them home from work all the time, but most of those get filled with the kids toys that they don't play with anymore and we're going to sell in the yard sale we've never had. LOL, I remember those days. Our decorating style went from early garage sale > Mediterranean > Little Tykes >
  10. Controversy in the House of Reps No seats for spouses and family They are lining up by seniority, not alphabetical
  11. CSPAN so far. Then switching to CNN probably.
  12. . . . Incarcerate 1 in 20 black males between 19-35 (down from 1 in 9) . . . Have blacks live at a poverty rate 1.5X that of whites (down from 2X) ^^^ Gee, do we think those go hand in hand? I have said that we grossly under appreciate the cheerleader role of our Presidents. That was the greatness of Reagan IMNSHO and the downfall of Carter and Bush. While I understand some will not have the same enthusiasm today as others, I believe it is a great day for America. All inaugurations celebrate our orderly transition of power, this one with added elements that make it historic.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 07:32 AM) Well, I'm on my way to downtown DC folks. I'll be down there all day as my train doesn't leave until around 7 pm. Wish me luck. I wish I was there.
  14. Complete the phrase for the next four years of realistic goals, even if they are a stretch. . . . reduce our Troop levels in Iraq by 75% . . . put in motion a guest worker program . . . increase by 15% our use of alternate energy sources

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) The best and cheapest way is to make it yourself. That's what I did and you can make it the size you need to. Last year, I took a piece of wood and drilled it into the wall. This year, my loft actually has the shelf drilled into it, so either way is good. They have a strict no hole bigger than a pin rule or else I'd have him do that.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) How about just getting a plank of wood and secure it with screws onto the loft shelf (where the head of the bed would be) so that about 1/6th of the plank of wood is protruding out from the loft shelf? Then put the bed's matress over the plank/loft shelf, then problem's solved! That's what I was going to do. Actually, my full plans was to cut the board at like 3' and then slide half under and use a bungee to pull it tighter. I was also going to place a lip around the sides so stuff wouldn't slide off. That would keep the plank from sliding all the way under and having stuff fall.

Anyone have a solution for a nightstand kind of thing for a loft bed? I found this http://www.spacesavers.com/minimantle.html but my son would like something a little bigger.

Battery changing stories? On some Chrysler Models to change the battery you have to go through the wheel well. Turn the tire and start removing screws to gain access.
  19. I was thinking this weekend, and wondering what the comments would be. What would the economy look like if there was no governments to run deficits and control it? We talk about how the government has to deficit spend and borrow money, and pay interest, to keep the economy moving. That that mean there can be no long term successful economy without governments?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 09:32 AM) I'll be honest, I won't really classify the UN as either option. I would go more with "Bloated and ineffective bureaucracy". They have some useful things, but nothing that couldn't be duplicated pretty easily and more effectively by some of the international aid companies if they had the budget to do so. I don't see the UN as being worth much on the world political stage, but their humanitarian work is very valuable in general. I really do believe a group like Red Cross/Cressent could do better if they had a fraction of the funding that the UN has. Until they become bloated as well. The tough part is keeping to a focus and a mission. Humans always seem to keep adding to things until they become too bloated to work.
  21. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 11:10 PM) I smell 4th place Just like last year. Hell, last year fourth was a stretch for some people. If they could they would have had us in 6th.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 09:30 AM) There's always Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. I just have to pack the stuff up and go. I work from home, so with all the work related stuff I have to keep here, it is just crazy to be keeping crap like this.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) Start selling some of that stuff on Ebay. I'm always getting rid of junk on there. It is mostly crap that no one else would want. It was the coffee cups that first got me started. I'm washing out my favorite, yet I had a dozen or more clean and on the shelf. Does anyone really want a used coffee mug from the US Golf Association? Shipping would have to be a couple three bucks.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) I understand how the UN functions. I just don't think it is fair to be able to give them credit for intervening to stop things, but not to give them credit for when they don't, or won't. Given those two choices, I would prefer we give them credit, and blame. Protecting the right to life of those that cannot protect themselves should be job #1 of every nation that can do something, and the UN by extension.

Stuff owns me. I can not seem to throw stuff away. It isn't to the point where I'm some weird recluse. However, it is stuff like coffee mugs. Besides a set "for company", I have mugs from Scouting events, House of Reps, US Chess Federation, several colleges and clubs, and stuff like that. I don't need them, I only use one or two, but I just can't bring myself to toss them in the garbage. I have at least 50 t-shirts, I could toss out 40 and be just fien for covering my gut, but instead I leave them taking up space in my dresser. I have my spikes from college. I'm never going to wear them.
