  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) Well to be honest, I bet about a billion humans believe in the easter bunny and Santa as well. Wow. I have no idea how to respond. I guess see my above post.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) Nice try. Bringing in Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny is Mocking if you have the intelligence to know the difference between something that several billion humans believe in, and a child's fantasy. (Taking in all the world's religions that believe in a higher power(s).) Amazingly ignorant if you don't know the difference. I prefer to think you are intelligent enough to know the difference. But like many liberal democrats, you would be very comfy in a Communist country.
  3. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) All the Obama love around this place (meaning my job) is really getting to be overdone. I supported him and voted for him but cmon already people he isnt the answer TO EVERY ONE OF YOUR PROBLEMS. Do you think he feels the pressure?
  4. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Honestly, something needs to be done about education from birth on up. The change that is needed is away from local property taxes dictating the quality of the school.
  5. I think unity would have been harmed if Obama was the first President to not offer a prayer. It seems we elected someone who has spoke about his faith and the role it has had in his life. His credentials in this area are well known and understood. Plus they seem above reproach. Unlike some candidates, and Presidents, I believe his faith is genuine and not something orchestrated to win voted in certain demographics. To me, it would have been hypocritical if he would then turn away from a long tradition of offering a prayer. I wonder if some do not agree with the petitions placed in the prayer. That would be interesting. I thought the petitions were general enough that Dems and Reps would agree.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 02:31 PM) Heres the thing, why must we have a prayer before the oath is given? Arent we trying to show that many races, creeds and religions are what make up America, and then we do a VERY Christian prayer? f***ing strange. What happened to the seperation of church and state? We have that freedom in America. We can worship and practice our faith. Sadly, in many countries around the world, that is not possible. Either they have a state sponsored religion, or they allow no religion at all. The Constitution protects our religious freedoms from the government state. It would seem that many people here would prefer if the government denied citizens there right to worship in public. I believe the authors of the Constitution sought to protect us from that possibility.
  7. The court system found them guilty and imposed a sentence. Those of us that live, work, and play in this area are nervous about agents that may feel empowered to shoot at will. Agents, understandably, are very frustrated that they can not pursue suspects into Mexico. The suspects know this, and quite frankly, act like total assholes once they are back across. They taunt and shout obscenities. So law enforcement become frustrated. But they are law enforcement, not military. And like I said if, for example, Schaumburg cops shot an unarmed suspect at Busse Woods, I suspect some people who picnic, fish, and enjoy Busse Woods would be concerned about continuing this behavior.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) You're right. Maybe they can incorporate other mythical figures like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. Faith is difficult for some people. They feel threatened and prefer to mock.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Bulls***. That's completely out of context. His comments immediately before what Tex's paraphrase was "People are often surprised when I am asked who I most look up to in the Senate and I say Teddy Kennedy". Then he said what Tex said, and that's a completely different point. Let's stop the horse s*** now, ok? Sorry, I am working and only half listening, I missed that part.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) What did he say? Basically, and to paraphrase a little, when asked about Kennedy's collapse "Well you know we do not agree philosophically or politically, but he has been around forty years."

    Loft Bed Shelf

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Ah, is he living in university housing (dorm)? If so, that makes sense they'd have that rule. I know my dorm did... So yeah, I guess making your own shelf isn't really possible. My experience with lofts have been in my fraternity house, where it doesn't matter what we do to the walls. Yeah, the Freshmen and most Sophomores at Texas State University are required to live in Campus Housing.
  12. My Senator's comments on CNN makes me realize again what an ass he is.
  13. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/...al_trouble.html. Prayers are with both. Sad.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 01:44 PM) LINK Newt is one of the most intelligent leaders we have had. I am not surprised he did not dismiss Obama's candidacy.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) So far this is all I see http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090119/ap_on_...wh/bush_pardons Nothing controversial there yet. Border Patrol agents who shot and killed an unarmed suspect (but known drug dealer), attempted a cover up, caught and duly convicted and sentenced. Had their sentences commuted by Bush. Controversial in some circles. Worries abound in some circles.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) It's already on mine, lol... but feel free. I think it's perfect. I added it to mine as well. And it is my new wallpaper. Great work, thanks.
  17. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) I'm typing from my g1 from a restaurant downtown. I didn't get to the mall, that was basically impossible. The energy was palpable from the TV.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) I really wish we practiced separation of church and state. We do. The government does not select or establish an official faith. We are free to worship or not, as we like.
  19. I just heard that the inauguration is anticipated to surpass the final episode of M*A*S*H as the most watched television event in the US, and should also break all world records as well. Hype? There is a whole lot of substance behind the hype.

    I confess to you

QUOTE (mreye @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 09:17 AM) Yes. My wife brings them home from work all the time, but most of those get filled with the kids toys that they don't play with anymore and we're going to sell in the yard sale we've never had. LOL, I remember those days. Our decorating style went from early garage sale > Mediterranean > Little Tykes >
  21. Controversy in the House of Reps No seats for spouses and family They are lining up by seniority, not alphabetical
  22. CSPAN so far. Then switching to CNN probably.
  23. . . . Incarcerate 1 in 20 black males between 19-35 (down from 1 in 9) . . . Have blacks live at a poverty rate 1.5X that of whites (down from 2X) ^^^ Gee, do we think those go hand in hand? I have said that we grossly under appreciate the cheerleader role of our Presidents. That was the greatness of Reagan IMNSHO and the downfall of Carter and Bush. While I understand some will not have the same enthusiasm today as others, I believe it is a great day for America. All inaugurations celebrate our orderly transition of power, this one with added elements that make it historic.
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 07:32 AM) Well, I'm on my way to downtown DC folks. I'll be down there all day as my train doesn't leave until around 7 pm. Wish me luck. I wish I was there.
  25. Complete the phrase for the next four years of realistic goals, even if they are a stretch. . . . reduce our Troop levels in Iraq by 75% . . . put in motion a guest worker program . . . increase by 15% our use of alternate energy sources
