    Whoa! Beer Widget

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) SPIT TAKE!! See my recent drunk thread post. *hic!* Besides ambiance, I cannot tell a difference between the can and a "takes three minutes" to pour drought at my local pub.
  2. Was it all a dream, or did we make the playoffs a couple months ago?

    Whoa! Beer Widget

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:53 PM) Indeed, I know the widget It is a nitrogen ampule that ruptures when you open the can or bottle, releasing seed nitrogen to give your Guinness that authentic draught head. I believe the inventor of the Guinness widget should receive a Nobel Prize for science. And I was just reading they have a "rocket widget" that fits in their bottles slowly releasing the nitro and causing that perfect creamy head to last the entire pint. This is so much fun, I'm on my third.
  4. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) True. The person below me egged and/or TP'd houses and yards in his/her neighborhood at Halloween in their youth. True The person below me had a crush on a teacher

    Razors

BTW, also from my zit-Doc, hot water tends to cause the skin to swell a bit, resulting in a not as close as can be shave. He recommended, at a minimum, a cold blade. But if you can tolerate it, cold water. It tightens the skin and stands the beard up.

    Whoa! Beer Widget

Jim, and I know you will know this, what the hell is the "widget" in my Guiness Draught can? You can hear it rattling around inside, but when you open the beer there is a rustling noise and a heavenly bouquet erupts.
  7. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) VERY TRUE. The person below me loved Jose Valentine's 'stache. But hated Billy Koch's pubic hair landing strip-esk soul patch. True! The person below me has tunes on his computer (s)he has never listened to.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) A person in a cabinet position has discretionary spending authority that no Senator has. That IMO is the key. As a Senator, you can't allocate funds or change policy directly, you need to pass something through the Congress. A cabinet post has the ability to do that. But this concerns her husband. Should a spouse really matter?
  9. I guess someone has to have the most hits and ribs without being in the HoF. Since that doesn't seem to be that big of a feat, I wonder why more guys don't play 22 years and rack up similar numbers. Too bad he didn't juice a few seasons. Hit 50+ and be a shoo in.
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) False. Only marginally more satisfying as it will be a Lean Cousine Cheese Pizza. Don't want to waste money going out. The person below me has already put up Christmas lights. False, too busy The person below me, like me, should be working or studying for finals
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:17 AM) I'm surprised your not arguing about the injustice of Fred McGriff not being in the HOF. He only had 78 RBI less than Harold in 1100 less AB. Slugged at a higher pct. Got on base more often. Why is he not on your list? He's lost his eligibility, which will soon happen to Harold. I do not believe I made a list. I'm just trying to understand your criteria. It seems to value, for example, 12 great seasons over 22 nearly great seasons. You would rather a guy pick up 2,000 hits in 16 seasons than say 2,800 in 22 seasons. It doesn't matter as much where they rank in all-time totals, but rather how they got there. Several seasons leading the league versus twice as many, but only in the top 10. Longevity doesn't factor in. I tend to appreciate the skill and dedication required in career totals over percentages. One or two season wonders many times lead the league. (Does Loiaza and his 20+ win season make him a better pitcher than say Buerhle?) But yours is a very valid point of view, and shared by the majority of baseball writers.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) 80 games in the field his last 15 seasons contributed to his longevity. Like I said, I love Harold. He was a sweet hitter, had a lot of huge hits. But..............289, .356 OBP average. If he's knees had remained healthy, he probably would have been a HOFer. But then again, if I could run a 4.2 40, I'd probably be a HOF running back. All excellent points. So if he produced the same career totals, but only played 16 seasons, you would value that higher? That it's so much career totals, but season totals?
  13. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) She's considered too fat!?! D'Oh! And seriously, it could be what was being modeled. Some clothes just look better on super skinny people. Not all modeling jobs reflect the strengths of all models. Another agency might have deemed her too skinny for their assignments. I'm considering a career in modeling, I'm going to be the "before" pictures.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) Yeah, I forgot about that one, but definitely his DH-ness will be a hinderence. That and the milkman vote
  15. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:48 AM) Yeah it does. Although it should be noted that the deal is a factory refurbished device I've had mixed results with factory refurbished. Usually fine, but I received a cell phone as a warrenty replacement that was refurbed and I'm not certain if it was just a bad model, or the refurb wasn't done well.
  16. Usually those great deals are the new list price by January, so if you missed out, wait a month and they return.
  17. Any ideas of what a sample conflict would be that they are trying to avoid? Besides the usual Jimmy Carter in a country building homes or running an election while the President has an opposite opinion. Only now with his wife there as SoS?
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:14 AM) I do agree that longevity should be somewhat of a factor (though not a huge one). If you can be among the league's best overall hitters for 22 years, as Harold was, that is an accomplishment in itself. He probably won't get in, and it will be for two general reasons. One, he wasn't associated with many post-season teams. Two, he isn't decorated enough - no season titles, not high MVP votes, etc. Three. Didn't play the field for most of his career, NL media bias Four. Slowed by injury 20 years.
  19. Basically the argument seems to be, that players with less hits and RBIs, but who played fewer seasons, should be in. That just doesn't make sense to me. It is called "fame" not Hall of Great Seasons. Not Hall of Stats. Playing 22 years is no small feat in itself. With guys literally half his age trying to earn that roster spot.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:59 AM) The importance didn't change at all. Its a simple matter of stakeholdership. Who hires them, and who takes the blame? In the Senate, the people hired her, by popular vote. In the cabinet, the President hires her. The President, and your average voter, will certainly have different data access and different decision making styles. So that I may understand, you are saying the potential ethical issues are the same, except the President has a greater need to CYA? Are her husband's business interests a valid concern?
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:44 AM) Harold is a career .289 hitter, witha a career .356 OBP and 384 homers in 22 seasons. Never hit 30 homers in a season. Never hit 40 doubles in a season. Stole as many as 10 bases once in his career. Never walked 80 times in a season. 9th place is the highest he ever finished in MVP voting. Didn't play the field the last half of his career. A sweet, steady career, no doubt. A great clutch player? Of course. A HOFer? If you put him in, you better get the blueprints ready for a huge expansion project. Some don't think Jim Thome is HOF worthy. He's going to finish with over 550 homers and an OBP over .400. I thought it was career numbers that we value. I guy that takes care of himself, plays through pain, and consistently had the same very excellent season for 22 years, deserves consideration. At the least the same consideration as guys who played half the years, racking up less career totals, but having bigger seasons. Yep, never more than 30 home runs. He should have juiced. And I don't think it will be much of an expansion. No one has more hits and not in the Hall, but guys with less are in. No one has more RBIs and not be in the Hall, but guys have less and they are in. So where is the expansion? It would seem that letting in those guys with less hits and rbi is the expansion that allows Harold to gain admittance.
  22. I was just thinking, why should there have been additional scrutiny with Hillary Clinton's husband's interests because she would be Sec of State? If we accept that her husband's interests are a valid concern, why should in change as she moves from the Senate to the Cabinet?
  23. QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 08:46 PM) Sorry, but that's just not good enough It doesn't matter if Texas Tech was embarrassed 8 days ago.. they still beat Texas in a game they DOMINATED until the final minutes when they came right down the field and won regardless.. If Texas Tech getting embarrassed doesn't matter then Texas win on a neutral field doesn't matter either.. It was a three way tie, and the team with the more impressive resume won out in the end. And you're kidding yourself if you think Florida beating Alabama next week wont vault them into the title game.. I see no way it doesn't happen, regardless of what they are looking at right now.. LSU wasn't anywhere near the title game last season, and when the final BCS came out winning the SEC sent them from what, 7th I think, to the title game. Texas played Tech after beating three top 10 teams on consecutive weeks. It went six tie breakers deep and it was a razor thin margin. The problem I see is two fold. The two best teams in the Big 12 are not playing for their title. The three best teams this year were all in the south. That's problem one. Problem two, and while it probably will not come to this, but a case could be made that two of the Big 12 teams are the two best teams in college football this year. There is no way they could actually play in the BCS title game. Next year it could be the Big 10 or SEC. But I see where the two best teams could be from the same conference, and this system just sucks in that unlikely scenario.
  24. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) I agree, it works wonders, but tastes terrible. Hmm, what else does this describe
  25. I never, ever, thought I would say this, but at some point I realized that looks mean almost nothing. It's amazing once you are in love how those minor issues just fade away and you never see them.
