  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) Jerry Owens, and if you sign a CF, you can have Ozuna platoon with Richar. I'd like to see Nady take away some of Thome's at bats against lefties.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) KW has all but admitted Owens will be starting at either LF or CF. Where? When? I missed this.
  3. Saw that A Jones wasn't offered arbitration by the Braves, thus they don't get compensation picks. So they feared he might actually accept arbitration, and they didn't want to have to pay whatever that would be. Isn't arbitration based on the previous 2 years' performance? Wouldn't his brutal 2007 really hurt what he'd get in arb?
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Well, Christmas is coming after all. Yes, I was joking. We're obviously not getting either of those players, and we're not going to get Bay.
  5. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) How about Fuku and Bay? And David Ortiz and Johan.
  6. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 11:31 PM) Thanks for the link. Nice to read Yankees forums and realize what a rationale group Soxtalk is. A couple of quick quotes that follow the story: KO: "They’re trying to unload this guy (Santana) for a Hughes or a Buchholz, two guys who will outperform him within the next year or two." Hardtruth: "This trade is nuts. Melky is a legitimate All-Star caliber OF for at least the next 10 years." Yankee_Man: "Phil Hughes can become a better player than Santana" I agree that those are absurd claims, but don't agree that s*** that ridiculous doesn't appear here as well.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) I can think of about 3 or 4, but who are all of them? Iguchi, Valentin, D'Ang Jimenez, Graffanino, and Big Geoff Blum.
  8. Totally unrelated to anything- I noticed that 5 former Sox 2nd basemen are free agents. That's wacky.
  9. Has anyone seen anywhere what kind of contract Fukdome is expected to get?
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 30, 2007 -> 11:29 AM) Hunter's on Rome right now and said that the lesser divisional competition in the AL West (vs. what he would've faced in Chicago) was a part of his decision to sign with the Angels. Perhaps that's a nice way of saying that he expects the Sox to suck again next year? Or expects the AL West to suck, and the Angles to be the very clear favorite.
  11. Hunter career: avg .279 obp .324 ops .793 $18 million/year Rowand career: avg .286 obp .343 ops .805 no more than $10 million/year???
  12. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 12:03 AM) With the trade for O. Cabrera, it seems now that Uribe will be moved to free up more cash for the eventually signing of a big ticket FA. T. Hunter seems to fit that mold. So what can we actually expect to get for Uribe and who is looking for SS help? I found this: The best part is in bold. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2007/nov/20/sp...r-moves/?sports www2.tbo.com speculates on trades, but having any f***ing idea what they're talking about is not their forte.
  13. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) Yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that the poster's logic was that Contreras had a good couple of months at the end of last season and, therefore, he should be kept. The fact that he has 2 years left on his deal is all the more reason to try to move him if his problems are physical and won't go away so easily. To me the good couple of months are not the only reason he should be kept. I agree with what wite said. You won't get anything of value for him and you have to pay part or a lot of his salary. and whichever AAA guy takes his spot in the rotation will, in my estimation, be worse. If he legitimately has some physical problems, A) I think any team would do every examination possible to make sure they don't get Garcia-ed, or B) the Sox severely hurt their reputation by trading another injured pitcher. blah, blah, blah.......I feel relatively sure that we won't trade Contreras (unless perhaps at the deadline if we're out of it again) and that he'll have a better year than he did last year.
  14. Fukodome seems ideal for us. He won't get as big a deal as Jones or Rowand and it seems he slaughters both of them in terms of getting on base. I like the fact I haven't heard Williams mention him once. Never heard Hunter going to the Angels till it happened. Never heard a word about us getting Orlando till it happened.
  15. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 09:19 AM) This is the same logic that said we should have kept Freddy. He looked good the last month of '06, then couldn't pitch in '07. If KW can clear some of the salary and get some value he has to do it. The money saved can go to Colon or someone else who can be an injury risk for less money. Contreras has 2 years, Garcia was going into his walk year.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) I think he should wear like, scrubs, or whatever you put a patient in when they go in for surgery. Because 99% of the references to him any more have to do with replacing parts of people's elbows. Yes. Baseball cap with a picture of an elbow on it.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) Just FWIW, someone a few posts ago used a Owens / Ozuna platoon for a leadoff hitter. Just what were the splits for Pablo against LHP in 2006 Pablo .322/.358/.469 .827 OPS against LHP Careerwise he's .307 avg .750 OPS he aint gonna walk much
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Hes also a great leader and clubhouse guy and brings energy to the field which was lacking last season. Most angels fans are upset about losing his character, and rightfully so. Also, in addition to the stolen bases he'll bring, he's one of the best baserunners in the game independent of that. Bill James has started tabulating a stat to track all things baserunning that are NOT steals and caught stealings. For 2006 James ranked him #4 in all of baseball behind Figgins, Utley, and Mark Ellis- ahead of folks like Beltran, Reyes, HanRam, Damon, Sizemore, Pods, C Paterson. I believe I saw that he was ranked up there again for 2007.
  19. QUOTE(buckweaver @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) If that's the truth, then the writing is misleading. Yes, the writing was poor. No chance we're getting close to $9 million.
  20. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) Sorry I'm in late on this but: 1. How much money are we getting? 2. Are we getting anything else? 1. not yet known 2. no, just $$$
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) So, just really curious in all of this...what is really the point of this for either team? The White Sox get a 2nd shortstop, the Angels lose their only real good shortstop, the Sox lose a good starting pitcher and the Angels strengthen a strength...? The more I think about it from the Angels perspective, the more bizarre. They're already the best team in that division with the best pitching. Garland does make their pitching even better, but if you're in the playoffs- having a real solid #4 starter isn't really tops on the list of things that help you to advance. They got worse at shortstop and maybe $5 million more expensive. I don't know, do they have any other young starters coming up? Do they trade Santana (who's value is really low now)?
  22. The Score also says that KW says he will try to trade Uribe.
  23. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) If the sox are going to stick with Fields at 3b and Richar at 2b, having Uribe around to play both and SS [and allows the sox to say goodbye to cintron] makes the $4.5 mill. look manageable. Uribe would be more valuable to the sox in his utility role than any scrub he could net in a trade. The salary saved by trading him is worth more than his value on the field. Richar is a better hitter. A platoon with Richar and Bourgeois is even better. Any Uribe superiority in defense at 2nd doesn't make up the difference, plus the asset of his arm is basically wasted there.
  24. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) The Uribe re-signing is a real head scratcher at this point. I don't see it that way. They needed him as a safety. Now they have him signed for $4.5 mil and he can be traded. Rather than letting Uribe walk for nothing, we'd actually getting something back for him.
  25. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 01:10 PM) kenny confrence call on whitesox.com site how? when? how?
