  1. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) If Uribe ends up at 3B, somehow...I will boycott the Sox until KW is fired. I don't think they should put Uribe in the starting rotation either, even though there's a spot open with Garland now gone.
  2. On the Score, just heard KW saying we got Cabrera with the intent of signing him long-term.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) Am I the only who think the sox will make a strong push towards re-signing Cabrera before hits free agency? With so few options at SS in the minors, locking Cabrera up for a few years makes sense rather than settling for picks. Though the sox would at least get picks in the event they can't sign him to a deal. Yes, I would think that makes the most sense.
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Quick question... What teams might want Uribe? And for what role? St. Louis. Shortstop baseball player.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) I'm more astounded by the name Bean Stringfellow. me too. Wish it was String Beanfellow.
  6. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) This is from the Astros website. I guess the Brewers and Angels want him to play 3B or do they plan on moving Weeks/Kendrick out or to another slot? The Angels would need a 2B if they trade Kendrick in a deal for Cabrera.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) According to the New York Daily News David Eckstein is looking for a deal in the range of 4 years, $36M. I find that quite humorous. Wow. I think he's worth 2 years, $3.5 million/year
  8. QUOTE(3E8 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 11:36 PM) Wait, do the Phillies get draft picks I'd like to think this question is a joke.
  9. Have read that he is willing to waive that to get the hell away from St. LaRussa
  10. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) There is about a 1% chance ARod doesn't go back to the Yanks, and it has NOTHING to do with Mike Lowell. Probably true. I'm just leaving open the possibility that Rodriguez, not satisfied with being the best player on the planet, has all along been working on becoming the best agent on the planet- driving an even harder bargain than Boras. ARoD will sit out next year, Lowell will play 1B and Boras will play third for the Yanks next year. These are jokes.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) Oh I don't think so. Besides we also picked up a bunch of contracts during the year, including Myers, that cost a few million and made up for Gooch and Mack. No. What bunch? On Aug 20 "The 38-year-old Myers will get the prorated minimum salary for the rest of this season" QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 03:02 PM) Its still a $100M team or close to it. And this is nitpicking anyway, you're missing the point. I'm not missing the point- high payroll, very little success. But I don't think $10 or $11 million is nitpicking. Most teams in a given year are probably not getting much money from other teams, but in our case it was somewhat significant. You don't need to exaggerate or be hyperbolic to make your point.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 12:40 PM) It is always refreshing to see other people who believe this! I believe it. Giambi will DH, not play 1st. Yanks talking Lowell seems to accomplish, putting some pressure on Alex Rod to sign. Drive up the price that the Red Sox ultimately pay for Lowell. Or, potentially if they get him, improves their 1B offense and hurts their rival Red Sox.
  13. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) --The Sox had the 4th highest payroll in baseball last year, and had the 7th worst record. I think if you take into account the money we got from Philly for Thome and Iguchi, Arizona for Javy, and SD for Mack we had like the 8th highest payroll
  14. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) Do you really think this wasn't Boras' and Arod's idea in the first place? He realizes he needs the Yankees in the picture, so he makes the Yankees think they are getting some sort of concession. I'm fairly certain this is just another stunt by the both of them to get the bidding war going even further. Meanwhile, all the talking heads are calling this out as a tactical mistake by Boras. Talk about the trojan horse all over again... No I don't buy that. Damage to Rod's reputation. Damage to Borass' reputation. And the Yanks are decreasing their offer by the $21 million that would have come from the Rangers.
  15. QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) So, Boston, like every MLB team, very much needs starting pitching. They just may not be as desperate as some other teams. They did, however, have by far the best pitching in the AL last year.
  16. With regard to Hunter, Rowand, Jones, etc. If you want to get such a coveted free agent, you will have to pay too much- in dollars and/or in years. See for example, every free agent ever (who doesn't have some injury or other glaring check against him). No, they may not be "worth" their contract, but not getting them (depending on the market) may mean not making the playoffs (for any given team- not specifically referring to Sox here). Yes they cost too much. But for cost too much guys, I like Hunter, Rowand, Jones, Cameron better than Sarge Jr.-Pierre-D. Roberts, from last year. And on Cabrera- despite all the rumors, the Sox getting him would shock me more than anything. There was a horsecrap piece on Foxsports saying something like, "the Sox may not have the prospects, but they've got another ace up their sleeve!!" which, near as I can tell referred to Ozzie's good relationship with Cabrera. So Florida will take a s***ty deal.......because Ozzie and Cabrera are chums. Among other things, Florida dangling him right after A-Rodrig opted out of his contract sure seems like a grab for the Yanks hotshot pitching prospects.
  17. QUOTE(Calderon @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 12:30 PM) He doesn't do anything spectacularly, but he does pretty much everything well. If not for the injury that robbed him of almost two months, he would have been a Southern League post-season All-Star. The offensive performance in Birmingham really suffered without him at the top of the lineup. He's a big leaguer, maybe not an everyday guy, but he's a big leaguer. Platoon him with Richar.
  18. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) Nobody will know how the bullpen will do until next October, to say it is a strength or weakness is a crap shoot for all but a hand full of major league teams. The stress you put on a pen day in and day out can make it crumble. The White Sox bullpen right now could be the best in the league right now or it could be the worst. The problem is, there is no way to fix it for sure. This is the case with every team in baseball. The starting pitching, defense and offense play as big a role in the success of the bullpen as anyhting else. If every game is close late in the game who can only go to couple of guys. Ding, ding, ding. Thank you. Why was our pen excellent in 05? Why was it medium in 06? Why was it a trainwreck for a good chunk of last year? It's a crap shoot. Those pitchers are up and down. What options do you have? Go out and sign 5 veteran relievers to $4-5 million/per multi-year deals? Not worth it. There's a degree to which that success, winning and such are 'contagious' just as much as failure, losing, sucking. If we played the 2007 season 100 times, I imagine the bullpen would not almost all crumble at the same time and for that long more that 5 times. And the 05 bullpen wouldn't do that well more than 10 times
  19. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 09:13 AM) Last year was a big year for Weeks and flopped. Weeks doesn't hold the value that he use to- it isn't that far-fetched. Er, no he didn't flop. Take another look.
  20. Is he signed yet? Is he signed yet? It's past 12.
  21. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) Wasserman is a ROOGY at best but I don't even think he's long for that role since the only things that make him special are his work ethic and throwing motion/windup (and that's not really a recipe for long-term success) Chad Bradford
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) since when is .250 .300 .440 above avg production? I was referring to Hunter, not Crede. As was the original post-er.
  23. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) Because we're a bad organization that values "attitude" over, say, OBP? ....if attitude means well above average offensive production and stellar defense at a premium defensive position.
  24. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) It makes me wish KW would just deal Crede for cheap because he isn't going to swindle up a market for him. The longer he waits, the less options there will be to fill our other holes. ...and it's already November!
  25. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) Has anyone seen Hunter's splits vs LHP the last 3 yrs? He's killed them. .308/.365/.547 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/spli...p;type=batting3 Nice. Know what else I like? What's the difference between Hunter and Alphonso Soriano? Soriano will give you on average 8-10 more homers a year. In the past, steal 10-15 more bases, though he didn't do much after that leg injury. He's 1 year younger. Hunter, meanwhile plays gold glove defense in center. Hunter might be had for $75 million for 5 years. Compare that to Soriano's $136 million for 8 years, and it looks pretty good.
