QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 05:35 PM) Yeah it sucks. Nothing will ever be able to live up to the books for me, some of the best reading I've ever enjoyed. I'm actually reading them again right now. I'd honestly watch any length of movie, series, whatever if it could capture what the books looked like in my head. Waiting for this next one has been incredibly frustrating. Agreed, I've re-read 1-4 and now I'm rereading 5. I thought I was going to struggle through 4 again, but I REALLY enjoyed it compared to the first time through. 5 has been difficult to pick up again, but that's more because of life being more hectic than anything.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 05:24 PM) Yes. People need to completely forget about the book when watching the show. Forget it ever happened. It going to be similar but not nearly the same. Appreciate it for what it is. NO Honestly I understand from a business perspective why they are doing it this way, I just wish it was different/feasible to do it all in one, long season. Sigh. I'm still going to watch every episode (probably multiple times), and enjoy them immensely.
  3. QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 09:33 PM) Glad I don't have to defend Groce over Reggie Theus anymore... Calling B>W, he of little faith.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Saw that earlier today, good idea to share here. I would have thought that was incredible even if it wasn't Illinois. But seeing Groce deliver that makes me even more confident. I've said it a few times, I could be way wrong, but I truly believe in Groce and I think we'll be back to where we were in the early to mid 2000's in a few years. I think he is THE guy for this job, couldn't be happier we lucked into him after being rejected by the other choices. Also hats off to the seniors, they battled the whole season when they could have just mailed it in, not listened or bought in, etc. They represented the university well which is all you can ask for. We will be back. s***, now I sound like an IU fan years ago I agree with everything here. I love the way Groce talks, he controls the room but not through volume or ego, but with a mix of passion and focus. He knows exactly what to say, even in that speech he goes back to Toughness and Togetherness. He's got great potential, but I really hope he succeeds at Illinois because so far he's exactly the type of guy that I want to represent the university.
  5. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) Quite possible. I don't think this is really that big of a deal for the B1G, but Delany isn't going to be happy. I think it would be a PR nightmare if this was released before/during the B1G announcement. Now it's far enough out that most don't think about it, plus it's not like Rutger's basketball is what the B1G was really after.
  6. QUOTE (farmteam @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 08:17 PM) The AD's definitely gone, but hell, if I were the president right now I'd be worried. He saw the video in the fall too. When the governor is pissed, you have problems. IMO, this was kept quiet until they had the B1G deal signed.
  7. This may be more towards the Illini fans here, but thought Groce's speech starting at around the 21:50 mark was pretty great. Also a pretty crazy look into the emotions after a Tourney loss. Again, starts around the 21:50 mark.
  8. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) And somehow the AD didn't fire him after watching that stuff. Have fun being fired with him. So Rutgers, do you have more issues to come clean with before joining the B10?
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) Of course it does. Lack of discussion= loss of/no new posters= less contribution in the gamethread. Have you seen the discussions started this past winter? I wish most of them were hidden away by a catch-all.

  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) Looks like $1.55 per year, for the next six years. Boom 10x the salary
  12. THE SOURCE IS NOT CREDIBLE.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 10:02 AM) He was making $157,000 at FGCU. Right, not sure what Pac-12 pays coaches, but I'm guessing that Enfield is around $1 mil.
  14. Oh, and RCN's cable/internet blows, unfortunately Comcast isn't hooked up in my current building and when we requested it they said 2-4 weeks until it gets to the technician's queue, then it's up to them how fast they'll do it. 7 mths later and we haven't heard anything from them.
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 09:27 AM) For wiring through your home, that's very dependent on your home. I don't like wires all over the outside of my house and holes drilled through my house to every room I want tv/internet in, which is exactly what most of them do. And if you do have Comcast and have old equipment, just bring it into them, you don't have to call and ask. They'll swap it out for brand new stuff no questions asked. The reality for me is one way or another I need Comcast...they are the only place I can get what I consider good internet service from...so even if I had directv and slightly better dvr's, I'd still have to deal with comcast. Until someone comes and gives me fiber, nothing can compete with Comcast's internet. Not even close. Well one issue is that many people are limited and/or uncomfortable drilling holes into their walls to get that cat5 wiring into every room. I know it was pretty damn hard for me and my brother just to get 1 ethernet cable from the router to our 360 in our basement since we had to go through a ceiling and over a bathroom, etc. It's a hassle, just like speaker wire. And even the houses that advertise they are pre-wired for speakers typically don't have them wired in the exact places that you would want the speakers to be.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 2, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Hope FGCU can keep things rolling, losing the coach that got them this far could totally negate this run they went on. Yea, I can't fault Enfield for leaving because I'm sure it's probably 10x the salary he was making, but it sucks for FGCU who probably can't recruit a solidified HC anyways and will need to throw the dice once again.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) Martin put WAY too much into book 3 and then nothing in 4 or 5. I have to say though, they've done a good job at cutting the fat off. Not having Davos sit in a cell for 2-3 episodes was a good decision. As was getting the exiled Kings Guard commander (name escapes me) in front of Dany right away. Barristan Selmy. And I agree, though I would like Strong Belwas to be in the show.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) The showrunners have said that they can't really manage more than 10 episodes in their 12-month production cycle. Yeah it would be great if they could squeeze in 13 or so, but I'd rather than 20 over 2 years than 13 over 1. They also have to buy GRRM's slow-writing ass as much time as possible. Well obviously I don't know the intricacies of the film business, it's just my preference for s3 to be complete rather than split (and I'm not saying in 13 episodes, but longer). And GRRM is one of the greatest and most frustrating writers. I really wish HBO didn't agree to air some side projects of his and just tell him to finish A Song of Fire and Ice and then let's talk.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) Are you kidding? You'd rather have great material condensed or omitted than have to see young actors who are an extra year older? Splitting the book into 2 seasons was absolutely the right decision. Is it too much to wish that they would just expand the season to accomodate the book? It's HBO, they can do whatever they want to do.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) book to tv/movie translation is rarely smooth when kids are involved. I just accept it. the kids that were in harry potter were all in their 20s when the movies ended, its just hard to keep the same actors and maintain a solid age consistency when filming a series. And I get that, it's just my hope that HBO filmed as much as possible as early as possible to keep the changes at a minimum. It's nitpicky, I won't disagree with that.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Well I read it in an interview with the creators, so I'm pretty sure that it is true. Also, the series has already changed the ages of the kids. If the show not following the books well is going to upset you, then I think you would have stopped watching already. Well clearly it hasn't really upset me, because they've done a fantastic job thus far considering some of the obstacles of converting Martin's writing styles onto the screen, that said I would be disappointed if a supposed to be 9 year old Arya is played by a 16 year old actress. Will it kill the show? Absolutely not. They've just created very high standards and I hope they don't stray too far from them.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) I actually think that's a good thing. It'll make the Stark kid's stories make more sense, especially Aria. Arya: She's like 7/8 in the book, can't remember specifically but it's pretty important for her to be at that age. I'm curious to see what the show does with many of the storylines since so many of them get dragged out in the books. I wonder if they change them up to add spice to some of the stories as the amount of legitimate action scenes definitely goes down in books 4/5.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 1, 2013 -> 09:30 AM) I read that this season will only cover about half of A Storm of Swords. I keep hearing this rumor, and I have no idea if it's true. If it is, then it sucks and HBO should be ashamed. The kid/teen actors are already outgrowing their roles, so they need to film as much as possible as early as possible otherwise it's not going to follow the story all that well. Sansa's actress looks 17+ years old, when in the book she should be about 13/14 at this point. Wait another year and that gap widens a lot for the same age.
