  1. As a heads up, many of the FAs didn't accept their final offers since they weren't interested in them enough or something, so many are available now after the latest sim (most for right around what their final offer was anyways).
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 2, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) You've made this terrible point before. Losing an election doesn't mean you give up on your ideologies. Reddy would've become pro-red meat, pro-guns, and anti-P90x if Romney won.

Went to a bar with friends, the Barn or something like that in Lincoln Park. It was one of those all you can drink deals, and for the price I paid I was pretty happy with it (top shelf was included). Left at 1am though, definitely starting to get older
  4. Offer was accepted! The board should be impressed with this deal. The Texas Rangers offer Arturo Antón OF-20 (69+) Engel Beltre CF-19 (69+) Joaquin Cade 1B-18 (58++) $7,000,000 to the Cincinnati Lil Rangers for Sean Nemy OF-18 (69+++) June 12
  5. Currently looking for top SP and OFers, could change but I'm willing to deal major league pieces including Kinsler for the right guy.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 28, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) Google make smart Rowand. Rowand don't know, Rowand only pawn in game of life.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) And the Sox won't deal Sale, as they shouldn't. Any Headley talk is effectively pointless. Yea he was a target I wanted before his big breakout season, but the Padres are being smart and aren't dealing him for anything short of the moon.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) No kidding. You can't lie about bulging pants.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) So Andruw Jones got drunk, beat his wife, grabbed her by the ankle, dragged her down the stairs, threatened to kill her, and then passed out. Merry Christmas! That's going to be the worst hangover he's ever had.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) With how the OF and the bullpen are developing, I think we have plenty of depth at most key positions. I don't think our problem is lack of depth. I think our problem is lack of plausible stars. I think we need a solid UT, backup 3b, and another reliever (especially if they trade MT). I fully expect them to try and add a big bat as well.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) And has never been given the opportunity to do so. AJ was. Fact is, unless you have a payroll of $200m +, than you'll have to fill out wholes with younger players. And that means taking risks with them. The Sox just need to make sure they have more depth at key positions next year.
  12. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) But AJ proved his value in MLB. Flowers has not done so as of yet. In 15 years, AJ is a 96 OPS+ hitter, meaning he's below average. AJ was a solid catcher, that shouldn't be discounted, but we're not even losing a perennial All star at the position.
  13. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) Here are his minor league numbers...Flowers was a 33rd round draft choice in 2005. G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB K BA OBP SLG OPS TB TB GDP HBP SF IBB 6 Seasons 535 2233 1852 307 510 133 7 80 315 18 12 324 519 .275 .391 .484 .876 897 40 38 4 15 10 These are serviceable (not spectacular) numbers. I really hope I'm wrong about him, and that he flourishes as a starter. Career in minors: .876 OPS AJ topped that once in his career, in Rookie ball.
  14. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) Flowers never put up great numbers as a full time player in the minors, did he? Instead of assuming the worst for every current Sox player, why don't you go look up the stats yourself? It's been said here a lot already, Flowers put up some really good numbers in the minors.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) I've never been one to donate to charities a whole lot due in large part to the fact that I don't have a lot of money. I do however donate almost every time a cashier at a store asks for $1 to such and such charity and do frequently dump change into the Salvation Army buckets and the Ronald McDonald house buckets. I think I might be more apt to donate if the CEOs of these charities didn't make so much money. It makes me sick to see the CEOs of these charities pulling in million dollar salaries. Makes you wonder how much of your money actually goes to the cause and not "administrative fees". Some of these organizations are quite large and require top people to run them efficiently. I would assume (and of course could be wrong) that these CEOs/Presidents are paid much less compared to similarily sized for-profit CEOs/presidents. If it's required to pay that much for a leader to run that organization well and keep the organization on the level of support you expect from them, than I don't think it's bad at all. Of course, if they are just scamming the organization by cashing the checks and using the organization as their personal slush fund than of course I have issues.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) Laroche is no spring chicken, he is 34. Replacing PK with a slightly younger, less powerful hitter isnt exactly getting younger and better Lamar has been on a roll ever since he joined.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 25, 2012 -> 08:19 PM) Brother quinarvy. Next time you get that feeling, just think of me. If you go, I go. J4L, you'd totally dip out at the last second
  18. Got my brother a bottle of Lagavulin 16 for Christmas, one of the few bottles he doesn't have in his collection Drinking some of his homemade honey mead right now, pretty damn good.
  19. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) How on earth do I add the leagues MVP, get Mauer back, and then proceed to lose 17 games in the standings(4 games up to 13 behind)?? LAME. I don't know how Morneau has 250+ walks, but how any team loses with a guy like that is unbelievable Plus you have the Sox as 30 games over .500, not sure how they're doing that considering the team isn't THAT good. But I know what you mean, I didn't really detract from a good offense, but added CC, Santana, Wainright, and Anibal Sanchez to my rotation and not one of them has produced as well as they should.

Phi Chi Theta Foundation (my business fraternity) Goodwill I'm going to choose one more charity for this year, may be Red Cross since my company has an excellent relationship. Taking advantage of my company's 3-1 match program though

Christmas Eve we do the traditional 7 dishes of fish (which is just the worst for someone who hates fish). Tomorrow we'll be making a prime rib.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 05:24 PM) Not sure what to think of that because Egwu was absolutely great last night. Bertrand took over for a few minutes as well. Paul and DJ had bad nights, and the team overall didn't shoot very well. I'm okay with this loss, we didn't bring our A-game and we still kept it close. I think it bodes well for BIG play for us.
  23. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) Then why try? Might as well trade everybody? Lose 100+, get high draft picks and rebuild. What's the point of being a .500 team? It's better to win big OR lose big. I used to believe this, but then you grow up and realize the financial impact that would have. We can barely get 23k at a game when in first place. If the Sox were in last place last year attendance may have been below 20k. And you may counter, "payroll is lower so it's a wash!," and that may be true but the long term impact of losing those fans, of losing the young generation's attention would be huge to the Sox. They can't afford what the Cubs are doing because right now it's not the cool thing to be a Sox fan, it's not a destination for 30k+ fans when they are losing. The Sox must continue to field a competitive team, and build long term alongside that.
  24. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 03:40 PM) I want my team to win WHEN it can. I don't worry about 3-5 years from now; I'd trade every prospect we have if it would get me a Championship in 2013. What guarantees that championship? How much would you have to add to this team to make the playoffs, much less the WS?
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 21, 2012 -> 11:20 AM) Why stop at schools? Mass shootings happen everywhere. We'll need armed guards in churches, movie theaters, malls, sporting events, parks, libraries, and on public transit. Public transport could use more policing, considering the amount of incidents that occur anyways on places like the EL. Private companies/churches can decide if they want an armed guard presence already.
