  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) Illinois at 14 (ap) and 13 (coaches) Beat Gonzaga and they're top 10 next week. Time to beat a top opponent and make this team legit!
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 08:43 AM) Joel Sherman ‏@Joelsherman1 Hear exclusively Alex Rodriguez was playing with re-tear in surgically repaired hip Likely going for another surgery #Yankees (cont) A-Rod will miss at least piece of '13. Hope is surgery will allow for successful player again for #Yankees So #Yankees now dealing with both Jeter and eventually A-Rod coming back from surgery. Desperately need left side IF help Ouch, though I question why the surgery would be taking place now, and not a month ago. Seems like this is just lost time, and it's not like you could get ARod to pass a physical for a trade in this situation.
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) That's an odd list of teams for a NTC. Lots of northeast teams, but then the Tigers and Giants are thrown in there. Well who actually wants to go to Detroit.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 30, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) I think there is going to be a lull until North Carolina and Virginia get sorted out. The only other idea is that the Big10 is really going to 18, and will be splitting the conference into 2 (basically old big v new big). At that point the BIG should just take over the NCAA.

Congrats!! Personally, I'd be nervous as hell moving that far away, but definitely going to be an interesting ride. Good luck!! Though, you will have to pay for MLB extra innings now
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 29, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) During all the commotion, I must have missed where Bell was promoted to assistant GM. No problem with the move, he's got a great eye for talent. Teahen agrees.
  7. Champaign, Monday night , presentation, wouldn't expect much but after about 15 drinks I'm currently shwasted. Miss campus too much
  8. Illinois ranked #22 in both polls. I'd love to finish the year right around there
  9. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Nov 24, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) As long as the Groce hire works out I'd imagine the AD would be safe for the time being. The Beckman hire was brutal though and it was easy to see that as soon as the ASU game even if a couple here were still delusional. If MT gets 2/3 of the mens bb, football, and womens bb coaches right, then he's doing pretty well. So far Groce has been a shining star for the Illini, hopefully he keeps it up. And Illinois fans need to take a step back and give Beckman some time. Clearly he hasn't looked good, and he's dug himself a hole, but he needs time to get his staff right and get his players. Firing him now is about the stupidest thing you could do unless MT has some trick up his sleeve with a very solid coach waiting to come in (very unlikely).
  10. Well a few factors that are quite different for MLB players and other professions that require being away: 1) MLB players can almost always afford to have their family travel with them, or for portions of the season/spring training. 2) MLB Players can also afford to move around their family when playing for a different team, and they can always rent houses until they get in a more stable position. 3) MLB players get quite a bit of time off to be at home, yes they workout and such but for the most part they are with their families at home. 4) Most are retired by age 35, and many families don't start much before then. They could be with their kids at an early age and still be retired with plenty of money in the bank. Yes, they travel quite a bit and could be traded without notice, and it could very well be hard on some families. That said, it's not too different from what many other families have to endure to keep food on the table plus these guys make more than almost any other profession.

My dad makes homemade bread for holidays, for Thanksgiving he makes a cornmeal bread with ground cornmeal from Graue Mill, and also a whole wheat bread. They are fantastic fresh, but when toasted and made into a turkey sandwich that bread is to die for.
  12. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 23, 2012 -> 10:37 AM) You what Tex? People all have issues. Sometimes a family has to do what it has to do and that's just a fact of life. Life is hard. It takes work. It's not some liberal pie-in-sky utopia that you guys think it should be. It never has been and it never will be. Deal with it. ... Unrolling my eyes, now. As much as I hated moving during middle school, I grew exponentially as a person because of it.
  13. Working from home, then going out later.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 11:36 PM) Come on it's a DII school. That beat Texas the night before. And the second part is completely at the attitude/style of play Illinois has now.
  15. Illinois taking care of business. What a difference a coach makes.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) Also reading between the lines here, this means good-bye to AJ, and leaves a spot open for a 3B. If the only move is signing a 3b, then the Sox aren't serious about competing again. As much as I may like this team, the Tigers are going to be even stronger next season and we are already playing catch up.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 07:24 AM) As badly as Weber ruined my enjoyment in CBB, Groce has already restored it all. Thanks to the Maui organizers for putting the Illini on the easy side of the bracket. Barring a major letdown tonight, it looks a matchup with UNC tomorrow in the final. Obviously, I think Illinois gets smoked, but it's still fun to see them involved in a relevant game like that. This. Even though I think it'll be a major struggle to get in the Tourney, I'm still stoked to watch this team. Hell, I even bought great tickets for the United Center game as an x-mas present for my dad. Last time we went was when Dee Brown/Deron Williams were freshmen, I have that type of excitement about Illini basketball again.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) Texas would be a wet dream for the Big Ten, though I am not sure how they would work around the Longhorn Network. If Mack Brown has any say the Longhorn Network would be a goner.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 20, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) Visually, the tablets aren't all that different. The HD is less clunky and more slick, but she won't notice a difference. The sound difference is pretty stark, though. You are only talking $40, might as well get the new and improved one, in my opinion, regardless. I have the Kindle Fire HD, I love it except for the width of it, I have large hands and it can still get uncomfortable holding it in one hand for an extended period of time. But the screen, speed, and speakers are fantastic on it. For $200 I couldn't be much happier.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) The Big Ten logo looks alot like a 16 If the ACC starts to lose out in this superconference shuffle, I fully expect UNC to join the BIG.
  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) Ozzie Guillen has absolutely nothing to do with this situation, there was no need to bring him up. As my first order as mod (in the wrong forum!) I ask that we refrain from discussing Ozzie Guillen in this thread. He has been talked about ad nauseum this season and his tenure (both with the White Sox and Marlins) has proven to be a hot button issue. Beyond that, there are several other threads where he can be discussed. This trade and the after effects of it have literally nothing to do with Ozzie Guillen. Keep him out. New hero.

Went to Grand Rapids on Saturday, never got to go to any of the local breweries which was unfortunate. To make up for it, stopped in Sawyer at Greenbush Brewery again for dinner and a brew with my brother. Their 1825, Belgian strong ale, was one of the best American interpretations I have had. Great sandwiches as well.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 19, 2012 -> 02:36 PM) @CNBC - BREAKING: Hostess and Bakers Union agree to mediation, preventing shut down. I thought Hostess officials said that it was too late no matter what.
