Honestly thought we were getting KBD, local kid and relationship with Parham going in. Hopefully Groce has something else planned because I think a lot if people were counting on him coming to Illinois.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 17, 2012 -> 01:23 AM) Wow, Illinois is terrible. Their offensive scheme is a complete joke. Leading now. This team is going to struggle occasionally, but this team is much more fun.

How much are you willing to offer Josh Hamilton?
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) If he was allowed to stick with his parents he wouldnt be spending hours in the tattoo parlor making friends with the guys there. Sorry, but this is so f***ing wrong. He chose to get a tattoo, he chose to put those drugs in his body. No one tied him down and injected the drugs into him those countless times or to put those tattoos on him. HE CHOSE THAT LIFESTYLE. Eventually he was going to go down the current path because HE LIKED it.

Marlins trade Buehrle, Josh Johnson, Reyes plus others to Blue Jays
In other news, Marlins fans are trying to petition to secede from baseball. Unfortunately, they don't have the minimum 25,000 signatures.

Rumor: Sox are very interested in Angel Pagan
QUOTE (Special K @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 12:53 PM) Alternatives ideas? Trade/Sign a 3b. It's a s***ty situation to be in right now with 3b in demand, but putting a guy that you didn't have faith in to play the position back there is not smart.

Rumor: Sox are very interested in Angel Pagan
QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 11:28 AM) Well obviously there's an offensive disparity between Cabrera and anybody... We're speaking in terms of defense tho... They survived Cabrera's defense because of his offense. I don't know how you're not seeing that.

Rumor: Sox are very interested in Angel Pagan
QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 11:18 AM) Why not move him back to 3rd if there's no better option out there? Hell...if Detroit can survive with that orca Cabrera at 3rd why couldn't Viciedo do it? There are worse options if you ask me... Because Cabrera was a triple crown winner who can't play defense at 3b. That's like comparing Andre the Giant to Peter Dinklage.

How much are you willing to offer Josh Hamilton?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 10:13 AM) The fact that they have traded for CF, had De Aza pop up as "available", and now are supposedly being connected to Pagan, all tell me that it isn't Rios who is in trouble. Smokescreen Honestly though, I'm sure the Sox are doing their legwork and they'll probably find out that trading De Aza or Dayan is the way to go to fill 3b/C.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) But there has been NO indication that the Sox feel that way. If anything, with re-signing Peavy, they are committed to guys like Rios to provide the offense for 2013. They have been connected to multiple OFers, they may not be trying to trade Rios but I would not be surprised to see a change made somewhere in the OF.

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) No. Just ONE person is advocating we trade him to make room for a guy that may or may not want to play with the sox. Everyone else is simply discussing if Rios could be moved for anything of value, but all agreeing that no value would be had if we simply dumped his salary. If the Sox feel he is going to regress again, and would rather spread that money out, I would totally support that move. It would almost kill this team next year if Rios hits like 2011 again with his salary.

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) Well I know a guy who says he met Urlacher at a restaurant in Vernon Hills and he said he was very nice an approachable, just a little grumpy if you bother him when he's eating. Wouldn't you be as well? Fans need to know when it's respectable to go up to a celeb. As they are eating is not one of those times.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) Funny, I thought we had a much better chance with past 2 guys we eventually fell short on, but yeah a good get for Illini. I really hope Groce can still land KBD. This one was definitely a shock for me, I thought for sure he was going to pick Nova. Hopefully KBD commits in the next few weeks and we can go after a top PG.

How much are you willing to offer Josh Hamilton?
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) Isn't there a ton of teams with a lot of spending money this year? Something about TV deals? The FA market is also really shallow so teams are going to be exploring trades. I saw where Seattle is in on Hamilton, my post suggested trading them Alex in return for Seager. If you add Josh's LH bat I dont think youre limited to grabbing a LH bat a 3B(Though they were never really limited to on in the first place, I just would have preferred one) so that opens the door for any 3B out there. Teams may be willing to take on the full contract, but you're not getting a young, starter in those deals. It just isn't going to happen as much as we may want it too.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) wait is this actually a thing? are people actually upset that Urlacher gave Manning credit for a good play? The bar I was at had no problem with it at all. But I'm sure the phones were ringing like crazy on the radio for the meatheads to vent about losing.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) It does, but it hasn't happened. He's a changed, "God fearing" man. Unless they changed things since his book was written, if he fails a test he's gone from baseball period. They could have changed it though since he's been clean for so long but I doubt it. It's a chance worth taking for one of the best hitters in baseball if you ask me. He's still gonna have monster years the next 2 years with PK and Dunn still on the team. Dude, it's also a book. Just because it's on paper doesn't make it completely true. They can write as much as they want about how he's changed, but the fact is he's relapsed before and the odds are it's going to happen again. Who knows how bad the next relapse is going to be, it's a huge freakin' risk on money that would be best spent elsewhere.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) If you can get a good young 3B and or a C in the trades? Yes. The teams RH heavy, trading in Rios for Hamilton changes that. Hamilton also had an OPS 100 points higher than Rios, so theres that. Again, you're not getting top young MLB talent for those guys. You could get some younger prospects, or maybe a decent cheap bullpen piece, but those guys with their salaries just aren't worth that much (hence why fans want to trade them). Unless the Sox dish out tons of cash with those guys, they're going to get limited returns. And if they do that then suddenly that cash you saved isn't nearly as much as you thought.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 01:27 PM) Is the team really better at that point? You most likely won't get good, young MLB starters for those guys. It'd be better to spread that money around.

2012 Video Game Thread
Been playing the GOT RPG on 360, decent storyline. As a fan of the books/show, it was worth the $20 I paid for it. My roommate picked up AC3 and Halo 4 as well. AC3's online game is a fun alternative to the typical online multiplayer.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 05:48 PM) I've only been to Madison once, and I actually went to the Old-Fashioned. It was pretty good, just sat at the bar for a few hours and watched the game. Heh, Old Fashioned is a fantastic name.

My roommate (and best friend) just lost a close friend of his. I don't know the full story, but she and two others were in a car and were struck by a train. She died, another girl is in a coma, and the guy is apparently stable. He went to a small school in Indiana, and those 3 were still attending, that community is f***ed up by it right now.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) I honestly believe Bruce Weber gave up these last few years. Groce has 100000% more energy than Bruce and actually has a sense of how to run an offense instead of just running a 1960's motion set. Oh I totally get that, and it's what has me super stoked to watch Illinois basketball again. But, Weber didn't leave much in the way of ballhandlers, and Groce's system needs that desperately. I'm hoping Paul/Abrams and co. can step up, but it's keeping me levelheaded going into this season.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 03:20 PM) Groce has shown the ability to enhance the PG skills of SG's. Jamar Butler was a shooter until Groce got ahold of him. Plus in his offense there will probably be multiple guys bringing the ball up. You're more optimistic about Illinois sports than most Illinois fans I'd give these chances (independent of each other): NCAA Tourney: 30% Bubble Team: 50% NIT: 80%
