Your 2013 Plan for the White Sox
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) Lol, how is that the one thing in my post you passionately disagree with? For context, you only decline this option if you do the one major thing I posited, which is signing Greinke. Certainly, you can't have both of them. This team can't afford Grienke, he's a huge risk and would be very pricey. It'd be smarter to invest that money elsewhere.

Your 2013 Plan for the White Sox
Trade Rios for 'spects Trade Thornton for 'spects Trade Floyd for 'spects ^Any of these may spects or trades may be altered for acquisitions below. Don't bring back Peavy, Youk, Hudson, Myers, Liriano, etc. Sign BJ Upton Sign Reed Johnson Trade for Chase Headley Sign a reliever or two on the cheap, Coop-like projects Trade for Ryan Doumit Sign SP (Guthrie, A. Sanchez, Jackson) Also, shop around Viciedo for SP or 2b/OF upgrade. Roughly $105mm

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) About time to start shopping for a new vehicle. Anyone have an Altima or Camry? Personally I love the new Fusion, looks amazing. I have a friend who got an Altima, seems to like it. Also, love the Optima styling.

Your Top Prospects by Position - Starting Pitchers
We really need 3-4 of those guys to have big years/improvement next year, that is a pretty sad group overall (obviously some talent, but considering how we develop pitchers at a decent rate it's pretty bare).

On Base Percentage f***ing Matters
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) Hunter will be a free agent. I doubt they'll just trot Vernon Wells in RF everyday. Yea I just looked up his contract status, makes a bit more sense now. But with Wells being so inconsistent I doubt they want another high paid, high risk player in Rios.

On Base Percentage f***ing Matters
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 01:22 AM) Trade him to Anaheim. Get Bourjos and prospects (not good ones I'd assume) back in return. There's your gold glove CFer and 9th place hitter for cheap. What would LAA need another OFer for? Or more so, why would they pay that much for another one? NVM, I see that Hunter is a FA after the season.

On Base Percentage f***ing Matters
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) Unless they trade for a 3B or they somehow get David Wright (which would be awesome) then Youk pretty much has to be back...There are literally no other starting 3B available. Chase Headley please.

On Base Percentage f***ing Matters
If a decent offer came for Rios, he'd be gone in a second if I was in charge. Too much salary, and history shows he'll regress big time next year. I'd then slide De Aza to left, Viciedo to right, and go after another CF if I didn't get one in return.

So, I finally quit smoking.
Congrats man, I've seen it first hand with my mom how hard that habit can be to break. She's been off an on cigarettes for as long as I can remember, and now I just find coke bottles filled with cigarette butts outside half hidden when I go home, it's sad that she thinks she's hiding it even though everyone in the family knows.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 05:38 PM) In that case, I apologize if I came across like a 'dick' as he previously stated...it wasn't my intent. But it also gives me insight as to why all these college grads are in debt beyond their tuitions...it's no wonder. These sorts of requirements are out of hand, and I would have told teachers I couldn't afford it, but I wouldn't have put myself into further debt in order to take a class simply because they wanted me too. I would have sooner inconvenienced myself and went to the lab. But this is absurd. These schools need to go f*** themselves. On a Verizon family plan, I still pay about $65/mth for my portion (including data), that's like a week of grocery bills for me every month. I was fortunate where my parents paid for my tuition and room and board (well, they'd match the cheapest dorm rate). So apartment living (which cost more than the dorms because of where I chose to live), books, drinks, phone bill, car insurance, gas, etc, that was all on me. As well as I had it, I didn't get a data plan until after Spring Break senior year, I flat out couldn't afford it even though I worked as an intern or was an RA every year (sometimes both). And yet, I see kids complaining about student loans who have had a data plan since high school. Ridiculous. My dad worked hard to get where he's at, and makes good money. But throughout my childhood my family limited ourselves, we didn't go out to eat much, we only bought clothes at Kohl's and even then it was infrequent (hand me downs where we could), vacations were fairly limited and were combined with where relatives lived and if we could where my dad may have to travel for business so we could save on things like car rentals and his airfare would be covered. I saw way to many kids who came out of school with $10k+ in debt who didn't work at all while in school, and their family would go on vacations still, etc.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) I already have a ton of confidence in his recruiting. Getting Kendrick Nunn was a huge get for the program. 2nd best player in the state for the 2013 class, plus his dad is well connected in Chicago. Throw in the Simeon connection and that was a big recruit for the program. Plus while he may not land any of them, the fact that he was able to make the top 2 for Jackson, top 3 for Tyler Ennis and top 3 for Xavier Rathan-Mayes who are all top 30 recruits despite only being on the job since April is really impressive. I'm a little worried in terms of getting big men recruited with Groce, but he has shown that he can attract top guards to this program.

America's Top 50 Cities
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) Denver has a nice downtown area, but everything else is pretty meh. The dog food factory in the middle of town on the interstate is awful. But it's all about the location. Being so close to the various parks in the Rockies would be awesome. I'm jealous of my friends that live there. San Fran is a fun city, but I'm a little surprised that they weren't docked for their homeless problem. They're everywhere. And yeah, you can't really deny that Chicago has a huge gang/violence problem. It's a third world in some parts of the city. The violence gets reported but it's all white noise at this point. "14 kids died in shootings last night? That sucks.... hey there's this new bar I want to go check out..." My post was towards Rochester just fyi, I've only seen Denver once when I was really young so I can't comment on it much.

America's Top 50 Cities
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 07:47 AM) Rochester, NY being on the list makes me want to scream. I don't think the people doing this list have ever been there. Denver at #6 was nice. Visited this year and absolutely loved it. I was there this summer, that city is a complete s***hole. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency, which was nice, but were surrounded by slum. During the conference, we had some city official talk about the city and he started rattling off a bunch of number rankings and we barely kept the laughter inside of us.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) I don't know why some of you guys are pooh-poohing this like "oh whatever, it's just a map." Speak for yourself, I use maps on my phone all the time. I'm typing this comment from an iPad... It's not some kind of Applefreude, I actually care about mapping apps I can use. Well this move allows Apple to actually progress with their map app, so as a consumer you should be happy that they decided to be proactive about it. In fact, all consumers in the long run will benefit from this. Anytime a serious competitor comes in versus the industry leader means there will be innovation and progress in that field.

Realllllly hope DJ decides to go to Illinois, it would be huge for the program. Also, can't wait for Groce to have a full year to recruit his guys, unbelievable job thus far by him, usually we wouldn't even be in the discussion at this point.

The Miami Marlins thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 01:23 PM) Maybe not a coincidence, but there are a lot of bad teams out there. The managers of those teams lose every year, like Ned Yost. I don't see how realistic people thought Miami was 'all in' just adding a stud like Mark and a stiff like Heath Bell. And Reyes. And John Buck. And Zambrano. To go along with Stanton, Josh Johnson, Hanley Ramirez, Anibel Sanchez, Omar Infante, Ryan Webb, Nolasco, Logan Morrison, etc. Those are not some bum players, those were good players before Ozzie got there.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 08:37 AM) Not sure if this garners a new thread or if it should be in the filibuster but whats this I've been hearing hearing about come country bombing us if we get involved in their business with another country?? Like I said in the filibuster, I woke up alarmingly early for me (630) and with the rest of soxtalk being dead (go watch that video I posted in the NBA thread if you have 20 min to kill, its hilarious and I feel like no one has watched it) I figured Id brush up on current events. I'm usually all sports and comedy all day so I dont follow current events or politics. Iran pretty much said that if Israel attacks them they'll attack US bases.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) If you're talking about SOA, what Opie did is what the character would do. Opie pretty much was done, he admitted to Lyla that he didn't love anything (at least from what I could understand in that convo). He wanted an out, and he saved the one guy that could do something to the guy that ruined his life and family.

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 10:52 AM) I'm close to tapping out, but I think i'll give it another episode or two. It's not terrible, but i'm just not engaged either. I do appreciate the effort to tell a story like Lost, using flashbacks and last-minute-of-the-episode reveals. But as others have said, Charlie is pretty terrible as a lead. Caught up on Boardwalk last night. I love the new character Rosetti. "I've got a gun, you've got a gun, he's got a gun...we've all got guns!" I thought the series would suffer without Jimmy, but so far so good. I just don't get why shows/movies keep doing this one mistake: putting a child/teen into a leading role. Besides GOT, I have yet to see a consistent, stellar performance out of multiple young leads. They typically just flat out aren't talented/experienced enough to make those dramatic scenes/personalities feel remotely real.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 10:14 PM) I understand that we all use map functions...I haven't used Apple's, but I understand it is inferior to Google's at this time. But come on...I mean it is a miracle people managed to get where they wanted to go before Google Maps! And secondly, I am sure it still gives you a pretty good idea of what you're looking for...it isn't like you type in most addresses and get a map of Tokyo... That was my point, it will most likely cover your basic functions decently right now, and will only get better as Apple learns.

Im curious to see how many people complaining here about the map app have actually used it, and have had major faults with it.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 25, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) These "gates" are often made up or just downright stupid...like this one, and nothing more than click fodder for some ad money. Anyone that has ever owned an iPad, or Mac, or even the original iPhone has had experience with their aluminum shells. They scratch relatively easy, and they always have. Specifically, the black iPhone 5, because when scratched, it is silver underneath the anodized black coating, making it easy to see...but this has always been one of the drawbacks of aluminum cased electronics, regardless of who makes them. HTC was the first to discover this issue: http://www.connect-utb.com/2012/04/potenti...-the-htc-one-s/ Only almost nobody cared, because it was HTC, not Apple...so there was no "gate". It's also why those screen protectors were invented, if you're afraid of scratching your phone you spend the $5 on them.
