  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) But if you just say the trade was Humber/Frasor/Stewart for Hudson/Holmberg, that doesn't sound nearly as bad. It's a very creative way to look at it....and obviously if we go to a $85-105 million payroll, it will be even more abundantly clear (how much losing Hudson is costing us from a financial flexibility standpoint), but let's not project Holmberg as being special (yet) until he repeats his 2011 success at the AA level. Humber should NOT be included in this evaluation. He was developed by the Sox outside of this trade, and if they liked him enough beforehand then they would've kept him anyways. And no, Frasor/Stewart is crap value for Hudson/Holmberg.
  2. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) I wish this thread would just end. With Edwin gone now, it's over. We lost the trade, no use dwelling on it. The biggest problem I see with the trade is that it really shows how much KW acts and thinks like a fan. This can be a good thing, as it makes you agressive, but you will get worked over by other GMs most of the time. Many fans STILL don't understand why that trade was bad.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:32 AM) Jackson's clearly been a much better pitcher at USCF than on the road. ERA difference of nearly 2, better K/BB ratio (not even close), better IP/H ratio, all the metrics show he's better at home than away. Essentially, the best case scenario is that Hudson would have put up the same numbers as Jackson (had he stayed with the Sox)...but not sure how many are buying that. It's 2012-2015 that was always where we'd get burned on this trade, but KW did come up with Humber out of thin air, and there's simply ZERO possibility Hudson would have put up Phil's consistent numbers, right? The problem has never been losing Hudson/Richard. It has always been Dunn/Rios/Peavy, moreso than anything else. There are very few teams in MLB that could compete in their divisions with 3 of their top 5 payroll guys having abysmal seasons statistically. Ugh, no. The reason why that Hudson/Jackson trade was bad was the contracts. Jax had 1.5 seasons left at about $8 per. Hudson had 6 seasons of team control, 3 of them league min. So for the trade to be anything close to even then Jax would have to pitch like a HOFer and Hudson (and Holmberg) would have to blow their arms out and not even pitch at all in the bigs.
  4. I think JR is struggling more than anyone. He put the owners' money out there only to see this product be put on the field, now he has to sell off pieces so that they don't lose too much money while also deciding whether he should put in a vote of confidence in the man who put this team together. Jerry has to decide now the future of the team, KW went and got the trades in place, but JR will have to decide if he wants to retool (and most likely mean a new GM) or continue to spend around $100 mill on payroll.
  5. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:35 AM) AdamSchefter Adam Schefter Bears reached agreement with former Jaguars punter Adam Podlesh on a five-year contract. 5th in the NFL in net punting last year. Man, really wanted to see Weatherford with the Bears. Oh well, its the punter can't complain to much.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) I'm sure this would go over great with Kenny and Ozzie. Family members making the organization look bad? Hell, he would've fit right in.
  7. Oh, and outsourcing DOES NOT equal offshoring. There is offshore outsourcing, but that is a distinct difference. Outsourcing happens quite a bit on American soil between two or more American companies.
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) i would Um, wouldn't this be against pretty much everything that conservatives and tea partiers believe? I'm not saying you're either but from the comments I've seen it leads to believe you are (pulling a FlySox here), and aren't those groups strictly for the government to lay their hands off corporations?
  9. How much bandwidth do you guys pay for your internet? I need to figure out what plan to buy for an apartment this year. And what rates are you guys getting? Right now it's about $30 for 15 mbps from Comcast.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) If they're not moving people from their big league club (i.e. Brown), then the other guys that would match up for Q are their A-ball level pitchers. John Singleton could be a guy too. I just don't see the Sox going for a package that's completely A ball players. I see them wanting guys that can contribute now or next year.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I'll ridicule J4L a bit, but honestly, it's really unlikely. Yea, Im sane so I know it's unlikely, but man that would be a haul. I would even pay for the difference to keep the Phillies payroll under the luxury tax.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) How close are they to this threshold? They wouldn't part with him for Halladay, no? I'd be shocked. Let me dream!!
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) Its more than background work.... Is Dom Brown possible?
  14. Dom Brown would be a sexy get.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Dom Brown and a pitching prospect. You don't give up Quentin and Thornton without getting back a MLB ready part and a top 100 prospect I would be fine with that return if you added in one more prospect.
  16. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) I'm sure this has been mentioned on here, but re: the Rasmus deal, what about the Pujols perspective? If Rasmus is pissing off Albert then dealing Rasmus off is a no brainer. Maybe the thinking there was this deal makes the Cards a bit likelier to make the playoffs while appeasing TLR and Albert? If so, good job Cards. I love how some idiotic know-it-all fans try to judge every single move in a talent vacuum. Does anyone really think that the heads of that multi-million dollar professional baseball factory over there in St. Louis unilaterally believe that Colby Rasmus is a mediocre player with little to no future? Or that this deal is a great deal from a talent-for-talent standpoint? Derr, I'm so smarte I reed Bassbol Perspecter n I no wen derr deels r badd. Derr. St. Louis is soooo smart. AA and TOR are dumbasses for sure. St. Louis never makes mistakes. Blah blah blah.
  17. I see these guys moved before the deadline: Thornton Quentin Floyd Ohman
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) We also arent done. And lets say this money allows us the flexibility to bring back Buehrle, that would be a nice bonus. However I believe that we are in for alot more movement based on what happens this afternoon. Yup, the dominos will be falling in the next few days. And I do really like Frasor too, he gives us flexibility in plenty of trades (including moving him too).
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:18 AM) Its really not that bad of a deal if you just take into account this deal itself. Teahen was a top 3 enemy on this site for good reasons. Jackson was walking. We got 10 million, a cheap effective reliever and a top 50 prospect. Im actually liking this deal a bit, not overly impressed but really not that bad.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) They will send Lawrie or Drabek. My guess is Lawrie, Stl will need bats and that's why we don't have Rasmus today, because we weren't trading Viciedo.
  21. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) So from the USA today story, we are not getting a prospect from TOR, StL is, we get Frasor and $10MM in salary relief. Sox must be getting all of Frasor paid for. Ugh, this All-In crap is going to set us back if thats true. I can't believe this part. We need young talent, instead we're just shedding payroll, only to have to spend again to put out a decent team.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) Toronto is getting a could-be elite young outfielder for our f***ing property. I imagine a future built around Rasmus, Beckham, and Viciedo, and yeah, I'm f***ing angry. I'm guessing Stl stood strong on needing Viciedo to be the prospect. If it was Reed my guess is that deal (Ejax, Thor, Reed) wouldve been done a few days ago.
  23. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:50 AM) KW interview will happen in 10 mins to explain deal. Someone please provide play by play for those who wan't listen, thanks!
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Oh, its not over yet. If there is a loss posted today, I wouldnt be surprised to see Thornton on his way out the door as well. Posters need to listen to you and DocSox more. It actually makes a lot of sense, replace Thornton next year with Frasor as 7/8th inning guy or trade both (as they will both be in high demand for teams competing now). I see plenty of moves following this one.
