  1. What's really interesting about this is that AJ is coming off a career yr in RBI (77) & yet because of his bad rep his value plummets. It makes me ask what is Sosa really worth? Sosa's rep in Chicago is far worse than that of AJ's. Does that knock him down to less than 10M/yr in value?
  2. Great move! Congrats KW! He used the bad rep in SF to push AJ into this deal. AJ was offered slightly more $ elsewhere but no one was offering more than 1 yr. Given that AJ still as an arbit year left there was no reason for a team to do that. AJ was over barrel so to speak. KW just landed a former CWS nemesis who happens to be one of the best hitting C's in the game for 2.25M. The CWS get a full yr to decide whether to offer AJ a multi-year deal to avoid arbit in 2006. The odds are that AJ's bad rep in SF is going to surface in Chicago. I don't think it's going to affect Ozzie's clubhouse but I do think enough to where Moronitti & others will decide to write articles about him. That should be enough to keep him a ? mark & lower his price in the future.
  3. The arbitration situation gives the CWS a full season to decide whether they want to offer AJ a multi-year contract. If AJ picks up a bad rap in that time but one the CWS can manage that's going to keep his price low. If he is stellar in the club house but nobody says anything about it he's still going to be haunted by the SF comments. So either way it looks like the CWS will be able to sign him to a multi-year after this season if that's what they want to do. This was a great move by KW. As for G Zaun he accepted roughly a 2M/2yr deal with TBJ. The second yr is an option year based on GP in 2005. Basically they are giving him a chance to be their #1 C & if performs they are willing to pay for that. There were other teams offering more $ but Zaun wanted the TBJ job. He was never an option for the CWS. That leaves Iguchi or a utility IF as the last piece to get.
  4. CWS fans seem a need to b**** about everything. Look at the facts please. KW used the bad rep stuff out SF to drive AJ in to a 2.25/1yr deal. I did not know about the arbit eligible situation. With that being the case AJ was in no position to ask for a multi-year deal. He has that bargaining power next year & not this one. All I know is this guy was a major factor in beating us when he was with MIN. Now he's on our side at bargain prices. Not bad for landing one of the best hitting catchers in the league. The only think that bothers me about this is KW's comments seemed to suggest the winning margin was 87-92. Where did he come up with 92 wins? I don't think 92 wins will beat the Twins for the div crown. He's underestimating Santana, Radke, & Silva if he does.
  5. If we sign both Iguchi & AJ this is a slam dunk. Not only are we better than 2005 but I'm pegging us as the favorites to win the ALC. The sportswriters won't do that, because they've burned so many times before by the CWS failing to meet expectations. But I will do it. 1st string Lineup: Pods, Iguchi, Thomas, Koney, Dye, Rowand, AJ, Uribe, Crede - best in the ALC 2nd string Lineup: Pods, Iguchi, Rowand, Koney, Dye, Everett, AJ, Uribe, Crede - best amongst 2nd string lineups in the ALC Bench: Davis, Harris, Gload, Everett - more experienced than any team in ALC Bullpen: Adkins,Cotts, Hermannson, Vizcaino, Politte, Marte, Shingo - best in the ALC. Most have closer experience, 2 have starters experience, most are specialists that dominate either LH or RH. Rotation: Garcia, Buehrle, Hernandez, Contreras, Garland - when healthy, best in the ALC. I agree that Garcia is one of the most under-appreciated starters in MLB. His stuff is tailor made for a hitter's park on a team that scores lots of runs. A full season with the CWS should make him a 20 game winner. Buehrle has a 20 game win potential each year. Hernandez is a solid 15 game winner if he can stay healthy. Contreras is a solid 13 game winner over a full season. Garland should improve to at least 13 wins. That gives you a 78 win potential from the starters alone! The bullpen has the potential for at least 20 wins so 98 wins makes the CWS a division winner!
  6. He's expected to earn 6M in arbitration. I don't see any team jumping to get him at that price.
  7. I wanted to show off quote inheritance here. "http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?act=Post&CODE=02&f=2&t=28233&qpid=549864,549832" Anyways Jon is ONLY 25 yrs old. Think about how many starters there are in the league that are close to .500 record with as many games started as Jon. Very few. They are rare talents. It's why Buehrle is near phenomenal at age 25. Garcia is 29. Garcia was performing well below Jon's level at age 25. The thing about Jon is that when you ask why he's a near .500 pitcher the answer he's a mental case. His stuff is great & his command & control are solid. But he sucks at the stealth aspect of being a big league pitcher. He needs to learn the phrase "You won't know what's coming, till I strike!". That's the art of pitching. Is 2005 the year he learns that? I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be. Keep in mind this. He was babied by Manuel & the pitching coaches before Ozzie arrived. Last year he had his first winning season, his greatest number of great & good starts, & his least number of horrible starts. Ozzie seemed to push the right buttons to help Jon learn the stealth part of the game. If Jon just cuts down on his horrible starts by say 2 or 3 games, you will see a significant change in his overall numbers. If Jon has a breakout 1st half he'll make the all-star team. His stuff is that good.
  8. I guess we have 2 ways to do this now: "http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28253&st=0&p=549863entry549863" http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...63entry549863 It does work as you indicated. You can quote mutilple posts in a thread in a single reply using +QUOTE for each post you want to quote & ADD REPLY. But that's not the same thing as QUOTE inheritance. But thanks to the qpid field you can do quote inheritance as well. Moving the mouse over the + (snapback field) in each quote box gives you the post number in the thread. To create a quote inheritance tree you just have to include those numbers separated by ","s in the qpid field. "http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?act=Post&CODE=02&f=10&t=28253&qpid=549852,549853" http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?ac...d=549852,549853 Pretty cool feature either way. Thanks!
  9. Got it! Chisoxfn maybe this will help you out with the code. "http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?act=Post&CODE=02&f=10&t=28253&qpid=549853,549852" http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?ac...d=549853,549852 qpid supports multiple quote references separated by commas. Now we just need +QUOTE plus to populate the field that way.
  10. Can you provide a link address that demonstrates this? I've tried to test it & I can not get a double quote reply to occur. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...52entry549852 +QUOTE & REPLY should produce a reply field with 2 quotes: Test 1 & Test 2. But it doesn't. It only produces Test 2. If you click it on to where it becomes -QUOTE it still produces Test 2. FYI: "http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?act=Post&CODE=02&f=10&t=28253&qpid=549853" There is only one argument for quote reference. That is qpid. I will try some different values with that, but it looks like the quote depth for any post is 1.
  11. Pray for the women in the refugee camps. There have been widespread reports of rape occuring in the camps. FYI: Be rest assured the nucs the terrorists could get access to could not cause this. The blast radius is not wide enough & the waves generated are to dispersed. What makes an earthquake wave so devastating is that it generates a wave spanning several miles in one direction. A nuc generates a circular wave like a stone. That means the energy is dispersed in all directions. It probably wouldn't even be felt on the shoreline. But several nukes in cadence could do the trick. Because water waves have communiative properties. Drop 3 stones in the W, N, & E & they will produce a large wave in the S than any other direction. The energy transfer of the 3 nucs would work the same.

  13. Unbelievable! McVeigh was a child compared to this scum bag. I read all about him. He was bad news. Drugs, beaten people, murder conspiracies, & a major vendetta against the DEA&FBI. Lawyers are out of F'g control! I hope someone in OK protests against this. Call your local officials & complain, complain, complain! Do it so often they get sick to their stomach & change the law there.
  14. I'm not sure if what you're saying is true about Polanco. But the fact that he accepted arbitration means that his price will be set by the arbitrator. The Phillies I do not believe can trade him before that occurs. He's going to obtain max arbit numbers with 7 yrs under his belt. VS. L: .327 / .858 VS. R: .287 / .757 HOME: .317 / .836 AWAY: .277 / .732 .298, 17HR, 222TB, 55RBI in 126G, 503AB. 345O, 441S Those are solid numbers. That's basically 3/4th's of a season. Projected over a full-season: 265TB, 65RBI, 20HR. He's the 5th best hitter on that team now. That would make him the 4th best. I don't understand why they would trade him. His 3 yr avg is quite good: v L: 370O, 503S v R: 332O, 405S 1543AB, 162R, 450H, 832B, 40HR, 167RBI, 292A, 342O, 430S I don't see why a team in contention would trade this guy. If they trade him it won't be before ST. It would be near the break if they are clearly out of it.
  15. I forgot Gload & the fact that Thomas is an either/or case. Thomas either plays or is on the DL. So if he's not playing he's not on the 25 man roster. Thomas roster: 1-Pods 2-Iguchi 3-Thomas 4-Koney 5-Dye 6-Rowand 7-AJP 8-Uribe 9-Crede Non-Thomas roster: 1-Pods 2-Iguchi 3-Rowand 4-Koney 5-Dye 6-Everett 7-AJP 8-Uribe 9-Crede 10-13: Harris, Davis, call-up, Gload There's no room for the signing of a utilty player unless you juggle Thomas & Everett on the DL. When Thomas is off the DL, Everett would go on it. With the team focused on pitching & defense now I see it going with 12 pitchers. It might change near the all-star break if the bottom of the rotation shows is doing well. That would cause the weakest of the 12 to be sent down & open up a bench spot.
  16. Well that would make sense. TAM is basically a stop-over for MLB players. No one stays there. So if the CWS is only offering a 1 yr deal the stop-over makes more sense.
  17. Where did you read they are trying to move Polanco? I read he accepted arbitration.
  18. I'm still seeing several posts pertaining to QUOTES so let me just spew what I know from my usage. If you use FAST REPLY your post will occur w/out any quotes. If you use REPLY your post will occur w a quote of the last user to appear in the post you are replying to. If the +QUOTE was working, then when you reply all users appearing in the post would appear in your reply. But it's not working so +QUOTE does the same thing as -QUOTE. If you select -QUOTE then only the last user to appear in the post will appear in your reply. Even though it looks like +QUOTE is the default since it's not working it's the same as -QUOTE. So the moral of all this is don't bother using the QUOTE button until someone acknowledges +QUOTE is working.
  19. You dudes hi-jacked the thread! Let me try to help. Please pay attention! If you use FAST REPLY then you REPLY without quoting any one. If you use REPLY then you REPLY WITH QUOTING the post you are replying to. The QUOTE button doesn't work as advertised so I wouldn't use it. When +QUOTE it's suppose to include every post from every user that appears in the post you are replying to. When -QUOTE it's suppose to ONLY include the last user that appears in the post you are replying to. The +QUOTE doesn't work, the -QUOTE is the default so you just need to use REPLY. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX What surpises me about this article is that there in no mention of Everett. If Gload is expected to back up Thomas at DH then what is Everett doing? The article seems to imply Everett will be traded but I don't buy that. Maybe KW has something in the works with WAN or TEX but I don't see that happening.
  20. Would AJ accept 7M/3? I think that's fair & given AJ's health & performance history the gain of having him outweighs the risk of him failing expectations.
  21. I think LAD is our only competition for AJP. If you look at the other teams most of them are set at C. Those that are not have less to offer than the CWS. The RJ trade is done. What remains is the Green for Navarro trade. If that goes down then there CWS becomes the only viable place for AJP. KW does not have to rush with this. That gives him a solid advantage over AJ in the negotiations. This is an enhancement & not a need. The best thing that happened in this off-season is that the small-mid revenue teams like CIN, PIT, MIL, DET, TOR have already spent the money. Most of the big market teams don't need a 2B, or C. That leaves the lowest revenue teams & the LAD the only real competition for the CWS.
