The NWS in chicago has issued a winter weather advisory.
Snow will develop across the region this afternoon and continue into friday morning. The heaviest precipitation will occur from late afternoon through midnight. Along and north of a gary indiana, peotone, pontiac line, 3 to 5 inches of total snow accumulation is expected. South of this line, 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected before mixing with, and possibly changing to sleet and freezing rain. Significant ice accumulations are not expected at this time.
Roads, bridges and overpasses in the advisory area will become slick and hazardous. Accumulation of snow or ice on roadways, bridges and overpasses will make travel treacherous. Exercise caution if travel is necessary.
