  1. When playing more then 80 games(which means it includes this year), Nomar has never hit less then .300...he went 21 for 87 in 24 games in 96 for Boston for a .240-ish average, and he hit .289 in like 21 games for Boston in 01. Otherwise, he has hit atleast .300 in every year of his career. He's been injured twice in his career. And for $7-8 mill? The only risk you take is that he gets injured, and odds are very good that with him resting his body this offseason for the most part, he will be solid for you and will give you 150 games. His throwing arm is erratic, but he has quite a bit of range defensively IIRC. He'd be a very solid pickup for us...more so then Cabrera. Cabrera will come at $6 mill per year for 3-4 years, while Nomar comes at $7-8 mill for 1 year, maybe 2 with an option. Garciaparra has been much more consistent offensively throughout his career, and he is decent defensively.
  2. As Tony mentioned, it was surgery and an achilles. But he had the surgery on his wrist and missed like 140 games in 01, not 03. He played all last year with Boston, 156 games...in fact, he played 156 games in both 02 and 03...I believe that has been mentioned before by Jas.
  3. Damn, that Konerko for Kendall for Hudson deal was kind of mine from the start...with that crazy trade idea. But I had never thought about that. That is probably true. That would throw a kink into the deal big time. You'd undoubtedly have to sweeten the deal quite a bit for Pittsburgh to make that move...perhaps having something arranged prior to the trade that would then send Konerko to like Baltimore or Arizona or something similar to that.
  4. Happy Christmas by Lennon
  5. And he wanted a starting job too. That was part of the reason he signed with them.
  6. I'm partial to Like a Stone, myself. Damn I like that song
  7. By that are you referring to what the Sox will do, what will happen in the majors in general, or both?
  8. Ha, you mean Brewers for Damian Miller
  9. I understand what you are saying. In fact, I completely agree with it. I look at our team sometimes and cringe when I think of the possibilities...but I also look at our team and realize that with just a couple moves we could be serious contenders. I guess I figure right along with you that if they spend $75-77 mill wisely, why not add another $5 mill and spend $80-82 mill wisely.
  10. We will not land Pavano. He's a good pitcher, but I do not see it happening. He wants a 4 year deal IIRC, for about $10 mill per(or maybe even more then that). JR will no longer give out deals of more then 3 years to any pitcher, and I think he'd be even more skeptical knowing that Pavano has only had 1 real good full year, that he did it in a pitcher's park, and that he has been injury prone in years past. If he could get him for 3-years, $24 mill with an option for the 4th, I don't think JR would hesitate...too bad that's not gonna happen. I see us landing RJ or Kendall, quite honestly...and that's our biggest move of the offseason. Unless of course KW gets creative and finds a way to land both
  11. I think they are trying #2 to a lesser extent this year, and if it fails, they will turn to #1 with a new GM and maybe even a new manager.
  12. I have felt what you have for November all along. I would just also add that I agree completely with quickman and that is that Konerko's value is not nearly as high as some here would like to believe. He hit .310 29 70 1.050 at home. He hit .240 12 47 .700 on the road. I think teams will pick up on that right away. I also think they won't overpay for a guy like Konerko. What I see as equal talent in return many will see as less talent. I hope KW feels the same way I do rather then the way the latter feels, because if he does not, we will have Paul Konerko on the South Side of Chicago next year. Whether that's a good or bad thing is disputable.
  13. Someone who likes Audioslave? Hell, I hope you can sign up too!
  14. Manuel is a decent situational manager. He knows how to handle a bullpen, when to pinch run, when not to, when to stick up for his guys, when not to. He just can't motivate whatsoever. Like, I'm sure he could probably talk two teens who want to have sex out of doing it when he's actually trying to encourage them to do it.
  15. He said on-base percentage, not sb percentage, dumbass. Anyways, for a leadoff hitter, .350's usually about as low as I want to go. I'd prefer somewhere around .380, or even more, but I'd like .350 atleast. Anywhere in the .400 territory is usually considered pretty good, and anything of .450 or more is considered very good. Then consider that Barry Bonds had a .609 OBP or so...you realize how insane his season was. That basically means he was on 61% of the time...which is sick.
  16. Yeah An admin will change it over there
  17. That's about how I would describe it too. Crisp. Melikey.
  18. Do you expect him to call a raise with 8-6 suited? It's a pretty s***ty call preflop with that hand, even if he has chips. At the same time, I believe it was a cash game, and you can call with almost anything in cash games. You can have 7-2 and call with it. Hell, I was in first position on Thursday and raised with 10-8 suited...why not, try and steal the blinds...may as well. It just so happened that I flopped top 2 pair, but that happens. He doesn't make the call if it's a tourney...but he does in cash games. Simple as that.
  19. Maggs really has to prove himself again really after the horrific knee injury he had.
  20. 20+ years later people are complaining about them being cheap Ironic, isn't it?
