  1. All I am going to say on this issue is that though they have the oldest average age, they are not OLD...some are old, some aren't old. Big deal. Frank Thomas is 36 and is probably losing his teeth as well.
  2. One thing you forgot to mention baggs(and I remember this from you preaching to the choir about it). Jose Valentin was apart of 118 DP's turned in 2000 in 141 games. In his next full season at SS, 2003(this past year), he was apart of 96 DPs in 143 games. Coincidence? I think not. Valentin's numbers took a hit because, from what I can tell, Jimenez, Harris, and apparently Alomar(unless his range to both sides is so much better then Durham's that he reduces that many baserunners and is actually as good if not better then Ray at turning two, which I personally doubt) as well are not as good Ray Durham at turning the double play. That whole turning two thing is not worth $7-8 mill a year...but if you consider that Durham averages 70 walks a year and an OBP of .350-.360 a year, that is a little more assuring then having Willie Harris and not having a damn clue to what he is going to do...and as always, changes could have been made later, like say trading Maggs or not signing Konerko to a huge ass deal after a great 1st-half and a solid 2nd-half. Hindsight is 20-20, as always.
  3. But Mularkey is running the show now, and I from what I can understand, he likes to run a 3-WR offense....the Bills have Moulds, Reed, and then a huge ???. Do you play Sam Aiken there, who was a 5th round pick last year, or Bobby Shaw, who isn't exactly a great receiver, or do you want to try signing someone(I highly doubt they would get Owens, so maybe they could trade for one of Philly's receivers...I'm not sure) or do you go with just drafting Reggie Williams? However, I do agree Harris will be off the board by 13. However, if he wasn't off, I don't see the Bills picking him at all. He'll go to the Bears in that case, and that would be THE steal of the draft...a team gets probably the best player at his position in the draft where that team has a weakness at 14? Unless it's a weak year for that position(and it's not weak by any means), it is a steal(and usually it's a steal even if the position is weak, unless the position is like K or P).
  4. I tend to agree with this, however, I must ask, why do you have Billy Koch as a keeper?
  5. Why would they pick Harris, so they can sit his ass on the bench for a year or two(I mean, I know that's what they did with Willis, but he did f*** up his knee pretty badly in the Fiesta Bowl a couple years ago)? Sam Adams and Pat Williams will get the playing time at DT. If both Udezi and Smith are gone, they will pick the best available receiver. Therefore my pick is Reggie Williams.
  6. I did? I don't recall that happening. Not saying it didn't happen, I just don't remember it. Anyways, I stopped arguing with him for a reason. It was obviously going nowhere....so I stopped before it got out of hand.
  7. Rotoworld has reported it. And the commentary/analysis that Rotoworld always does when news is reported is as follows:
  8. I beg to differ. Is a 32-year old baseball player old? That is my main question on this thread, and to me, the answer seems pretty obvious. Most players retire at the age of 38-42...somewhere in that range unless they are forced to retire for some other reason earlier(either because they sucked and no one wanted them or a nagging injury kept on reoccurring and would never go away when playing or an injury flat out kept them from playing). That tells me they have 6-10 years left at the age of 32. I also brought up the point that if the average age is perhaps 30-31(I never actually said this but did imply it a time or two), and the Yankees average age is 32, does that make them old? It makes them older then the average team, but not old. Just like a 50-year old person....middle-aged, not old. The average age of a person at their death is somewhere around 75....that means they've only lived 2/3rds of their life at 50, which tells me that they are not old. My definition of an old person is when they become a senior citizen, and that is like 60-65, is it not? Also, his accusations of me comparing Williams and Lofton to Bonds as well as Brown and Mussina to Johnson and Pedro were false. I never did such a thing. If you want, I compared ages, but never how well they played the game or their stats to one another. Very ignorant and arrogant if you ask me. Maybe SSI is not an idiot. Maybe he is just ignorant and arrogant. And yes, beastly was most definately an idiot.
  9. OK, I need not argue with you anymore They say if you argue with an idiot, one may not be able to tell the difference between the two. I now will stop before I am confused with an idiot. Good day.
  10. You seem to think 32 is old. Pedro Martinez is 32 years old. Is Pedro old? From what I can tell, you do in fact think Pedro Martinez is old. My point is that your measuring stick for old is a bad measuring stick. In life beyond baseball(otherwise known as the real world), I would guess the average age is somewhere around 35-45....does this mean that if a person is 50 that they are old? No....the same thing applies to the Yankees. Who cares if their average age is just above the league average(which it probably is). They are by no means an old team.
  11. I'M NOT COMPARING THEM. :fyou I'm asking you, in general, comparing Pedro to NO ONE, is Pedro Martinez old?
  12. Just as a question to you....do you think Pedro Martinez is old?
  13. How the hell could we forget Jesse Orosco? Dan Plesac fits in that category as well. And Mike Morgan wouldn't be a bad choice either.
  14. Who said anything about comparing Williams and Lofton to Bonds? The only thing I'm comparing is ages, and both Williams and Lofton are younger then Bonds. You said 32 was old, and I gave you two great examples of players near 40(Johnson is over 40, Bonds is like 39) who are still kicking ass. Steff provided a few more. I think you believe wrong.
  15. So I guess Randy Johnsonis is ancient, and Barry Bonds is going to move into a retirement home next year.
  16. Which is why I have continually said I don't think they will win the World Series....not with the team they will field on opening day anyways. They'll almost undoubtedly add 3-4 pitchers throughout the year and will win the series. BTW, 4-5 starters aren't solid? I'll take Jose Contreras as my #4 any day of the week...not at $8 mill, but he'll almost undoubtedly be better then Scott Showenweis.
  17. The average age is probably around 30-32 years old, which is not old...not young, but not old. I don't care if they are the oldest team in the league, they are plain and simply not that old.
  18. IIRC he was in the minors for much of last year because the Yankees had no room for him. Regardless, teams are skeptical of Maels Rodriguez because he was supposed to have a 100+ MPH fastball and when he pitched in tryouts his fastball rarely touched 90. Contreras as a decent fastball and a nasty splitter. At the very least, he'll put up a 4.50 ERA, and that will be enough to get him 15-18 wins. And that $8 mill a year is worth it for the Yankees...keeps him off the Red Sox and has his numbers on the Yankees. He'd be a good #4 starter for any team, including the Yankees.
  19. I assume he means if we are out of contention. In this division, you could be 10 games under .500 and still be 3 games back of first.
  20. Well if Boone is healthy, ARod to the Yankees is not even being discussed.
  21. Old? Their oldest player is Kevin Brown, and he will turn 39 in a month. Big deal. The average age of their pitcher(if I did my math correctly), is about 33-34, somewhere in that range....not young, but not old. Giambi is their oldert infielder at 33 years old, though the OFers are going to be 35(Sheffield and Williams) and 36(Lofton) this year. Not old, but not young. How is Kevin Brown, Mike Mussina, Javier Vazquez, and Jose Contreras suspect? Their top 3 relievers...Mariano Rivera, Paul Quantrill, and Flash Gordon...suspect? I think not. Odds are very good they will add pitchers as the year goes on as well. In fact, I have no doubt they will add a pitcher or two as the year goes on.
  22. Uh, no. You go try playing 3B for the Yankees, hell, go walk around after just having surgery on your torn ACL, and tell me how it feels. I'll take ARod and Cairo over Soriano and ACL-torn Boone.
