  1. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 11:20 AM) I am because I won it last year and that situation led to the veto process being revoked this year. That's f***ing bacon smart
  2. There was one trade we vetoed last year because it was clearly collusion. The guy getting burned tried to justify it, but it was like Stevie Johnson and LaGarrette Blount for Calvin Johnson and Alfred Morris, and our commissioner was an inactive douche who allowed random nobodies into a pretty tight knit group (fraternity alumni league). The commish forgot to change it this year, but next year all trades will be reviewed by a 2 man committee.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) If only we got that out of our 1B this year... Silly goose, Sox 1B put up .251/.341/.410/.751, all because of Konerko
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 09:53 AM) As opposed to the 20 or so goats we already have ?? I think Loney would be the biggest one by far, and I think most of it would have to do with the inevitable .270/.330/.370 he puts up in his first season with the Sox. You just need more out of a 1B than that.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 05:02 PM) And 2012 Jeff Keppinger, that's a different story. Where did Maddon hit him that season when he was so effective? I bet it wasn't 3rd or 4th. He hit cleanup 22 times for Tampa in 2012 and started 19 times there. Strange about him hitting Kep cleanup against righties though. That's silly. Maybe he would put Beckham there.
  6. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 08:11 AM) Because some people veto because they don't want to see other teams in the league get better so they use the veto as a weapon. The response given to me last year when I asked why a trade I made was vetoed in a league I was in was along the lines of "because I want to win so I don't want any other teams to get better". It's beyond frustrating Shame on you if you played in that league again this year
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 07:23 AM) Loney made a great play last night in the loss to BoSox. Just one play, but it was big time. Keep in mind Tampa is not a HR hitters park. He'll show more power at the Cell. He is our best shot at 1B, Abreu not coming to Chi. Why would he? Because they offer him the most money and the chance to play with fellow Cubans? Do you really think if the Sox offered $50 million and the Rangers offered $20 million he'd say "CHICAGO IS FULL OF BUTT MUNCHERS, TEXAS ALL THE WAY!" or do you think he'd probably sign with the Sox? Consider me strongly opposed to the idea of James Loney. This is a guy that I feel, if the Sox signed him, would become an instant goat.
  8. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 05:37 PM) At least the Braves let him into the stadium. Ha
  9. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) So Chipper Jones predicted before the postseason on Fox Sports Live that the Dodgers would win the world series. Then the Braves asked him to throw out the first pitch and the mascot had to catch the ball b/c the players boycotted the pitch. Good riddance douchebags. This moralistic and loyalistic act that they continue to portray is absolutely horses*** to the highest degree. I didn't mind that team but they are not the police and that group of s*** ass players has no right to disrespect one of the greatest players in Braves history.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) And Tampa has a history of success with such guys, but the success usually doesn't carry over to other teams. You wouldn't happen to be talking about Jeff Keppinger now would you?
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 02:00 PM) He would be valuable in CF but not in RF? As I said, the only reason Garcia would play CF is team need, not because that is his best position. I think the Sox would be lucky and happy if he graded out to average in CF. The guy is a RF, just like the original poster posted. If the Sox had Carlos Lee and Magglio Ordonez circa 2001 along with Avisail Garcia and a relatively deep bench (so they're rotating the DH), who are you going to play in CF? This is the scenario we are talking about. You can look up in this thread and see where I said "I'd rather he play RF."
  12. I can't believe it, but I kind of want Detroit to win just because I hate Balfour that much.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) So somebody would have been open! I'm pretty sure the Falcons only sent 2-3 out on that 4th down play. It was blanketed, plus they were getting good pressure on Ryan too. Just say I'm right dammit!
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) See, this is one of those things where I feel you argue JUST for the sake of arguing. Clearly he's talking about something else entirely -- if the guyis good enough to earn a look at the big league level, 31 AB isn't enough to tell you anything, because both the hitter and the pitchers and random luck have lots of adjustments to make. The same thing applies to any hitter (Jared Mitchell included) at whatever their appropriate level is. The whole point that was being made was that Garcia hasn't been around long enough to tell what he is going to become, not that every single hitter might be good at hitting even though he sucks in the Pioneer League. Boomshakalaka. It's the same thing about Avisail in CF. Frankly, if he can be slightly below average, he'd have a lot of value out there, especially if the Sox could bring in big bats who are adequate defensively in the corners.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) Frankly, with Jones now out, the right move would be to call up the Chiefs and see if they'd part with a 3rd round pick for him. I'd give up a conditional 5th. The Falcons have no leverage and trading him anywhere else would be incredibly disrespectful.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) But they do have the greatest TE to ever play the game. And the Jets had, at minimum, 2 guys guarding him in the endzone at all times.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) How many major league ABs will it require to tell if Jared Mitchell can hit in the big leagues? I'm guessing less than 31. Most players don't get an opportunity to get 31 AB at the major league level. I bet of the 1000s who did not, there probably were a handful that would have turned into productive players. There are some guys you can tell right away aren't going to make it. You're right in some sense. We are talking about players who are competent. You said this yourself about Garcia in CF. Could you tell right away that Ventura was going to make it? How about Chris Snopek? Or Greg Norton?
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Well, the caveat is "if your team is great in short yardage". Jags? Probably not. Panthers? Yes. Saints? Yes. The Falcons are not that team without Steven Jackson.
  19. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) Agreed on both statements. I could realistically see the Sox signing Abreu, McCann or McCann, Granderson or Granderson, Abreu, but I do not see them signing three big free agent contracts. I would love to see Ellsbury on the Sox, but I think somebody is going to drastically overpay for him hoping he can stay healthy and get back to his MVP caliber form of a few years ago. Even with two of those big free agent signings I could see the Sox being contenders barring injuries. I could see being contenders with two of those three, especially if one was Abreu. However, I don't think they would be contenders.
  20. Carpe Diem: Dayan Viciedo hit .337 with 14 homers in the Cuban League...as a 16 year old.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Work has me busy and I don't have the time I used to - so can someone sum up why Abreu looks like a can't miss? In 2009-10, Abreu hit .399/.555/.822 over a full season In 2010-11, Abreu hit .453/.597/.986. He missed 23 games, but still broke the Cuban record for home runs with 33 in 66 games. There is talk that the ball was juiced a bit, but those are still pretty impressive numbers. Meanwhile, Cespedes and Puig were hitting .330 in this time frame
  22. Cincinnati Bengals 12 years $24 billionty
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 02:48 AM) Seems he also hit a double to get into scoring position for Uribe's homer...which would have been a single for about 90% of MLB hitters. So there's that. If he wasn't on second, Uribe wouldn't have failed on two bunt attempts in a row and probably would have struck out trying to tie the game all by himself instead of just making contact to move the runner to 3rd with one out. 8 for 17, 5 runs scored, a double, 2 RBI's and a huge momentum-changing outfield assist. I think most MLB teams would prefer to have him on their side than try to beat him. And the ball the runner on 3rd scored on, the single to CF, would have scored 90% of MLB runners from 2nd base. Are you sure you aren't related to Puig? Also, because Juan Uribe hit the home run, we should probably give Juan Uribe the credit for hitting the home run. We shouldn't say "if Yasiel Puig doesn't hit a double, Juan Uribe doesn't hit a home run, thus it's because of Yasiel Puig that Juan Uribe hit the home run."
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 08:52 AM) There are plenty of players 31 ABs can determine what they are. Garcia could probably get by in CF, but chances are with his body type, it's not a postion you will see him playing or really want to see him playing several years from now. Players also get better too as they grow acclimated to the position. If you think he can get by, then I think he can get better. I'm not advocating that he play CF, but he's plenty athletic to handle it.
