This is starting to feel an awful lot like another discussion.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 16, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) As a ginger, it is one of my top fears along with eels that have teeth. You mean snakes? Oh, and flying scopions are way scarier.

Don't you lose all menal stability after 3 beers and turn into a beer pounding pile of masculinity who drives home and just DESTROYS some p****?

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 16, 2013 -> 08:16 AM) It's because at that point your decision making is severely impaired. It's not like most people plan on going out and getting bombed and then driving. You may plan to go to the bar for 2 or 3 beers, but then a couple buddies come in and you end up having like 10 and all of the sudden you are too drunk to realize that you're too drunk to drive. AND THEN YOU CALL A CAB

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2013 -> 09:46 PM) http://www.kansascity.com/2013/05/15/42377...aster-fred.html Longtime Royals broadcaster Fred White dies of complications from melanoma. Almost 25 years with the team, was replaced by Ryan Levebvre in 1998. Also did a lot of college basketball...especially Big 12 with Jon Sunvold. Melanoma's a b****

QUOTE (Jake @ May 15, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) Before I tore my groin (ouch, by the way), receiving the ball like Krush described was by far my biggest strong suit as a catcher. It's totally underrated and I was lucky to have some great instruction from a former pro who taught me how to frame from the first time I put the gear on. BTW, tearing my groin didn't make me bad at framing, it just turned me into a pitcher instead of catcher QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 15, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) So many innuendos. I mean jesus, the entire post

In the event of a rebuild, stop comparing the Sox

QUOTE (KPBears @ May 16, 2013 -> 12:16 AM) Pods was better in 2005 (particularly the first half) than Viciedo will ever be. I know it's cool to bash Podsednik on this site, but the Sox wouldn't have won the division, let alone the Series, without him. He slowed down with injuries in the second half, but in the first half he was hitting around .300, collecting a fair amount of walks, and stealing bases at a pace not seen since guys like Henderson, Raines and Coleman back in the 80's. I agree with quite a bit of the Sabremetrics approach, and I'm a huge on-base guy. But there are some intangibles that can't be measured, and a leadoff hitter who can get on base regularly and is a threat to steal every time on base gets in most pitchers heads, and makes things easier for the rest of the lineup. Sorry for the rant, but I will never understand why so many Sox fans hate on Pods. EDIT: I'll say something constructive instead. Viciedo's ceiling is 3 times higher than Pods' ever was. Podsednik was a decent hitter. Viciedo has a chance to be a legitimate cleanup hitter in the majors. This statement is not only a misguided opinion, it's likely an incorrect opinion as well. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) Here's the problem with saying the same thing over and over and over and never backing it up. Reality sometimes intrudes. 3 days ago Alexei had an OPS close to .600 and yeah, you could say he's declining. It'd be bullplop because it's 100 at bats, but a person insisting on it could say that. He just went 8/12 against the Twins. Now his numbers are quite a bit better than last year. Career OBP is .316 and he's now at .317, career .276 average and he's hitting .284 now. OPS is below his career number, but it's now 30 points better than 2012. So, based on the same standard you used 2 days ago to declare he's declining, Alexei is now improving on his 2012 results. This post is full of win

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 15, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) You know if he is as valuable as you say, he should bring quite the return in a trade. Ramirez is not going to be part of the core that brings the Sox their next post-season team. Too old, declining. You say these things with such conviction, yet you fail to respond as to who should replace him. It's May 15th, and the Sox are in the exact same spot they were in last year. Trading him, like you have suggested, is absolutely assinine at this point. They'd feel awfully dumb if they traded him and lost out on a playoff spot by 3 games because Carlos Sanchez came up and put up a .240/.280/.320 line with mediocre to bad defense. You have wanted the Sox to get rid of Ramirez for years now, and you've already declared Viciedo a bust. You've denied as much in the past, and there is literally 0 reason to trade either one of them while there are others the Sox could trade instead of them, yet you remain adament about trading those two. It's a bit ironic.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 15, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) The fines should be enormous. The person who was caught drunk driving could just as easily have killed someone if not caught. The LACK of outrage in regards to DUI in this country is appalling. I've seriously been standing in one spot, smoking a cigarette, and fallen on my face before. I don't know how anybody could ever get that drunk and drive.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 15, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) June 5th...when they get back from Seattle. If they can go 13-7, that'll get them over .500. It's doable. Asking to do more than that is too much, but I really think that's a stretch where they can go 15-5 or 16-4. -

If the Twins ever get tired of giving Chris Parmelee chances, we've got open arms in Chicago. -

Don't want to count our chickens before they hatch, but it's sure looking like the Sox are going to be 17-21 after 38, 5 games back of Detroit for 1st in the Central. That's a half game different than last year, and the team is just starting to hit a little bit. I bet 3 weeks from now, the Sox are in 2nd place. -

It'd be nice if he could be a dangerous hitter again -
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 15, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) These are not decisions most people consider when they are inebriated. The clear answer to me is to put breathalyzers on the ignitions of cars. Do something to help prevent the action regardless of the decision-making ability of a drunk person. It's obviously not a fool-proof method, but the fines and punishments don't generally deter drunk people. ND just increased their punishments. It's like $1,000 fine, lost license for 6 months, plus 48 hours in jail, as well as classes that are required that must be paid by the person. From that, you are looking at approximately $1,500-$2,000. Then considering that your insurance rates are going to atleast double, and you are adding another $1,200-$1,800 per year.
