  1. Good thing Miami spent all that money on a new stadium to keep the team they love so much
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 06:29 PM) When you don't make the playoffs with Trout, Pujols, Trumbo, Greinke, etc., you're going to be on the hot seat eventually. Scioscia's still living off the fumes of the early 2000's glory and the 2002 World Series title, which came one year before Moreno arrived on the scene. This has absolutely nothing to do with Scioscia, this is about a farm system that hasn't produced quality starting pitching and a GM who tries to patchwork a staff together. Have you seen what their staff looks like without Weaver?
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) Viciedo 0 for 6 with 2 K's tonight. Well, we knew he was going to be rusty...no surprise there. Looks like he's in game shape to me
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) Dividing by ERA will make a pitcher without gaudy stats but a low ERA look comparatively better. Someone like Beck for example, who's not putting up a ton of amazing stats but has pitched very well, overall. And some of that is due to luck because guys don't allow a .209 BAA when you allow that many balls in play. The one really good thing he is doing is inducing groundballs (2.31 GO/AO), but he is going to need to show swing and miss stuff to be anything more than a middle to back end starter in the majors. Those numbers should not be rewarding Beck. He's had a nice start to the year but there are areas where he needs to show marked improvement.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 8, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) The awesomeness of Nate in the billboard and in life is unrivaled. That really is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 8, 2013 -> 08:52 AM) That's what I don't understand about a lot of the poster that think the Sox need to totally rebuild. They are the fastest to judge players as being busts. I really think some of them want the Sox to rebuild so they are guaranteed 4 or 5 years of complaining about everything. And not having to worry about games. When the team is expected to be bad, you don't lose sleep at night when the team loses.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 8, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) Actually, I thought it was pretty good. I don't mind the saying, but it literally came right out of nowhere. We went from talking about John Danks to the Cold Cut Trio
  8. For everything he does, Cano would be the biggest get. I don't see any way the Yankees let him go.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) Flowers, Keppinger and Dunn....the "Sub Mendoza Line Cold Cut Trio," coming to a Subway in your neighborhood. where in the f*** did this come from
  10. I think Hahn was doing that already when he was talking about Viciedo as a possibility at 1B in the future.
  11. QUOTE (G&T @ May 7, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) In WI that results in a refusal which itself carries a 1 year revocation of your DL and an ignition interlock for 1 year. So, basically, you have to blow. And if the dumbass is lucky, the breathalyzer doesn't register properly and they get away. I talked to a guy who was at a bar, had 4 beers and 4 Irish car bombs, drove home, and got pulled over for window tint. The officer had him blow and he blew a .072 and he got away clean. He was, if not drunk, quite intoxicated. On the flip side, I had a buddy who had 3 beers in 2 hours, got pulled over, and blew a .18. He was taken in to the hospital, they did bloodwork, and he came back at .057 or something. In both cases, I'm sure proper calibration of the breathalyzer puts the right guy behind bars and lets the other one go. (legal limit is .08 in ND)
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 7, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) USD? My wife's a grad of there Yessir, greatest school on earth.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 7, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) Yeah. I thought she pulled that statement off rather well. She's a piece of ass with the public behind her, she'll land on her feet. There are a few other places she could land that I would be perfectly OK with. Like in my bedroom.
  14. As Steve said, worst case scenario, you can listen to the Score. When I was in school - in Vermillion, SD, 515 miles away - I could pick it up on clear nights. It wasn't good quality, but that's a hell of a range. You should be pretty good throughout your trip if you can just put up with the Score.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) Toronto is a pretty nice place. In the summer, I would prefer it to Miami. Don't have to deal with hurricanes and stupid tourists.
  16. Stanton is probably not going to be moved unless the team acquiring him gives up an actual boatload of prospects, plus the boat. That's not something the Sox can afford at this point. It's not going to happen.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) What was his swing and miss ratio in 2008-09-10-11? I'm just curious...Danks, at some point, is going to feel the pressure to start putting up some K's, unless he's trying to be Jim Parque II minus the PED's and three homer game to Mike Cameron. Mike Cameron hit 4 homers that game
  18. That game was always sweet when you started a fight. Two fat guys, two medium guys, and you won every time.
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 7, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) every. day. Stanton hits 50 hr in the cell We've heard this argument before. Nick Swisher was going to be a 40 homer guy. Mark Teahen was going to be a 20+ homer guy. It's short-sighted to assume that he's going to increase his homer total by a wide margin simply because he's going from a pitchers' park to a hitters' park. QUOTE (Reddy @ May 7, 2013 -> 08:45 AM) none of THOSE players make us favorites at any point in the next 3 years either. That's entirely besides the point because I don't see the Sox competing with anybody in the next 3 years anyways. You control them for much, much cheaper for much, much longer. Giancarlo Stanton is eligible for free agency in 2017, and he starts to get expensive next year. Courtney Hawkins will almost certainly not be anywhere near the majors until 2015 at the earliest, and, assuming everything works out, he won't be eligible for free agency until 2021 or 2022. If you aren't going to compete in the next 3-4 years, what's the point of selling off minor leaguers?
  20. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 7, 2013 -> 08:28 AM) With my knees and feet issues I couldn't stand on one leg for very long, certainly not without wobbling. Hell I can't WALK without wobbling. Heel to toe? Yeah, again, not very long. Meanwhile, being a young, in shape, and healthy 25 year old, I can do all those things 8 beers deep.
  21. OK so I forgot how many awesome sports games there were. I killed a lot of time playing both MVP 05 and 06 (the college version). Both games were just sick.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2013 -> 09:38 PM) Heading out to the Blue Oyster, see you all later! Sounds like a venereal disease
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 7, 2013 -> 08:14 AM) Older minor leaguer comes up and turns into a steady contributor. Like I said, I was reaching, but there are legit corollaries there.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) Odds to win the 2013 AL Cy Young Clay Buchholz (BOS) 11/4 Yu Darvish (TEX) 13/4 Justin Verlander (DET) 5/1 Felix Hernandez (SEA) 6/1 Matt Moore (TB) 10/1 C.C. Sabathia (NYY) 10/1 Jon Lester (BOS) 15/1 Anibal Sanchez (DET) 15/1 Doug Fister (DET) 18/1 Ervin Santana (KC) 18/1 Max Scherzer (DET) 18/1 Hiwashi Iwakuma (SEA) 25/1 Derek Holland (TEX) 33/1 Jim Johnson (BAL) 33/1 Hiroki Kuroda (NYY) 33/1 R.A. Dickey (TOR) 100/1 yahoo sports A few thoughts here: (Getty Images) • Whether any of them besides Verlander have a chance, it's neat to see four Detroit Tigers starters on the list. If you're a fan from another AL Central city, feel free to replace "neat" with another word of your choosing. No Sale or Addison Reed. No Sale or Reed because the White Sox are 4 games below .500. These are based not on percentages of winning the Cy Young but by whom people have bet on to win the Cy Young as of May 7th. Sounds legit
  25. The White Sox trading for Giancarlo Stanton would be similar to the Mariners trading for Erik Bedard. Erik Johnson is Chris Tillman Courtney Hawkins is Adam Jones Alejandro De Aza is George Sherrill (sort of) Trayce Thompson is Tony Butler Carlos Sanchez is Kam Mickolio...? Whatever, the principle works. This is giving up a lot of future value for a player that does not make them favorites at any point in the next 3 years.
