FWIW, people questioned Bryce Harper's attitude and mentality coming up too. He was more successful, but part of the development of these young minor leaguers is developing their social skills as well as their baseball skills.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2013 -> 08:53 AM) So after some time Victor Martinez will get it going again offensively, but John Danks will be lucky to be any good NEXT season? Yes.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 23, 2013 -> 11:41 AM) Well, Rivera never had a crazy jump in numbers, MPH, and never broke down later in his career except for last year in a freak accident. And he only throws one pitch, very very very well. I wouldnt expect him to be dirty. He is just consistently awesome We aren't talking about a starting pitcher who maintains his velocity into his early to mid 40s. We are talking about a reliever who throws one pitch whose velocity has steadily decreased over time who simply has magnificent command of one pitch. Barry Bonds' hips got faster - waaaaay faster - when he was in his late 30s, and Roger Clemens' velocity went from 91.8 to 92.4 from 2003 (age 40) to 2004 (age 41). He was still at 92 MPH as a 42 year old. Randy Johnson's did the same thing from age 39 to age 40, and that was also from '03 to '04, so maybe it was something with the PitchFX technology at the time or in translating it. Johnson always threw pretty damn hard though and his velocity eventually did start winding down (went to 92.7 the following year, and then down to 92.2 and whatever from there). He also found himself dealing with injuries that a pitcher who is older than 40 would deal with too.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 23, 2013 -> 10:54 AM) Mavs are shopping the #13 and trying to clear cap space. Rip + $1M (Buyout) + Teague for #13 and Vince Carter? As long as the Mavs made the pick for the Bulls then made the trade after (Similar to the Bulls "drafting" Kevin Seraphin), it would be legal. Try to walk away with something like Shabazz and Dieng in the first round and a rookie PG in the 2nd. I know I'm a Mizzou student but I feel Flip Pressey would be a good pick as he can get to the rim, distribute the ball, and defend with his big downsides being he is short and can't shoot for s*** (though still probably better than Teague). Roll with this: PG: Rose/Hinrich/Pressey SG: Butler/Carter SF: Deng/Shabazz PF: Boozer/Taj/Thomas C : Noah/Dieng/Nazr How much does Vinsanity have left on his deal?

Brian Urlacher Appreciation Thread

Brian Urlacher was so manly that to cancel out some of the manliness, he wore purple dresses in the spring time and went shopping in Paris. I heard this from my uncle's mechanic's girlfriend who shops in Paris all the time. -
He had a team capable of winning some games last year. That project was set to fail from the beginning, but they should have been better. I think it's less "Ozzie knows how to win" and more "Williams is better at building teams than people give him credit for"

QUOTE (TRU @ May 22, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) I see no problem with the used game fees they are talking about.. I buy everything new anyways.. Here is my question.. you have to install all games onto your xbox1 to play them, then you dont need the disc anymore from my understanding.. so does this mean I can buy a new game, go home and install it, and then trade it in immediately for max store credit? If so, I love this idea.. Probably can't return it to the store, but I'm sure you can sell it online and get some money for it. There is literally no use for a retail intermediary market, which is a good thing because those places just f*** you on charges like nobody's business. "I will give you $0.72." "THIS GAME IS EXTREMELY RARE, IT WILL COST YOU $46.99"

QUOTE (Tex @ May 22, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) I am so tired and bored. I'd give you everything I got for a little peace of mind. I always think of the song when I see someone say I am so tired. Then I proceed to get it stuck in my head.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 22, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) This is exactly who I was trying to think of earlier, but was too lazy to look him up. I'm not so sure about McLemore, but I really think Burke has a pretty good chance to be a very, very good player. I'd rather take a guy like that and worry about fitting him in to my roster if I am the Cavs right now, then to take Noel with the #1 pick. But again, that is just me. I think you take Noel because he's the most dynamic talent in the draft, not because it's a position of need. It just so happens that it is also a position of need.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 22, 2013 -> 12:55 PM) I guess my point is, and this is what I laugh about, looking back now, can you really justify taking Chris Kamen or Darko and passing on Wade because you didn't have an immediate need for him at the time? Was it smart for the Trailblazers to take Sam Bowie instead of Jordan because they had Clyde Drexler already? Was it smart for the Bulls to pick Joakim Noah when some considered it a reach and center was a huge position of need?
-
Just so it's said, Noel could also Hasheem Thabeet his way out of the league too, even as a #1 pick. There's inherent risk with any of these guys. You ask if you pass on Dwyane Wade if you had XYZ, but what if McLemore isn't Dwyane Wade but rather Rip Hamilton? Then you'd surely pass and wouldn't think twice.

QUOTE (southsidepride15 @ May 22, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Tickets right behind home plate tonight, never seen Sale pitch, and he is scratched. Why God, why do you hate me!?!? He's not that good, I wouldn't worry about it
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Twins sporting just an awful line-up without Mauer against the Braves as they're threatening to fall further back in the standings. That is still a bad team. There's talent there again, but it's a very bad team.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ May 22, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) Well technically he rejected their lowball offer, so you're right about that, but that offer itself was a big kiss goodbye from Halas Hall, and almost certainly made with fingers crossed that he'd turn it down as hoped. He's retiring because he couldn't find another contract offer worthy of signing. It was not a low ball offer. -

He wasn't rejected by the Bears. In fact, HE rejected the Bears. Then they signed a bunch of dudes and said "sorry bro, ships full, feel me dog?" -
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ May 22, 2013 -> 10:03 AM) I am curious, how long are Euro League games? 40 minutes, two halves, two 10 minute quarters per half http://www.ehow.com/list_6868615_european-...ball-rules.html

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 21, 2013 -> 07:49 PM) DH him or Sanchez if it's nothing. Beckham hasn't played a game at short in his ML career. Oh for f***'s sake QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 21, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) There's no reason to talk about it, and looking into it as anything more than getting Beckham playing time is reading into it too much. He'd be a mediocre (at best) defensive shortstop at the MLB level and his bat doesn't play well enough to make up for the glove. He's good at 2B. The Sox played him there because they would appear to be grooming Sanchez to play 2B in the future because he's in the exact same boat as Beckham with different hit tools. Beckham needs less work on his defense at 2B, so they put him at SS because they primarily care about him getting his feet under him and his bat back into swing. You play him in the field so he can get back into game shape. This isn't a 1B who just stands there and catches the f***ing ball. You play Sanchez in the field because you want him to play the f***ing field. Seriously, this means absolutely nothing. If the Sox trade Alexei, then Beckham won't be far behind.

Good for him anyways. This was always the best way to go out. -
Christ, it's tendonitis. MILD tendonitis. He probably f***ing slept on it wrong.

Even including his s***ty rookie year, John Danks has averaged 6 innings a start, and once he figured it out, he averaged 6.1 to 6.2 innings a start. Danks pitches deeper into games than people realize.
