Really wouldn't mind Manny Machado manning the corner for the Sox though, but that Bryce Hunter looks like a stud.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 24, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) Tell that to the innocent victims. A ban is in order of both guns and knives/cleavers. Victim. Singular. You avoided the point though, so I'm glad to see you can do that. Anything can kill you at any given moment. The fact that people live until they're 70 or 80 or 110 is incredibly lucky to begin with. Perhaps we should start banning everything until all we have is a naked wasteland of people, right? Or maybe you can add something constructive to the debate instead of making convervatives look like reactionary idiots. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 24, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) No one cares about this, because the boy scouts are lame. This post is incredibly rude and completely unnecessary

In 2003, Kelly Wunsch pitched in 43 games and recorded 0 wins, 0 losses, and 0 saves. I remember reading something Stark or Kurkjian did at the time and that is like one of the only seasons in recorded history like that with so many games pitched.

Apparently a bit of a crazy finish in the Kanny/Hickory game last night. 2-2 after 11, Kanny scored 4 in the top of the 12th to go up 6-2, and Hickory scored 5 in the bottom of the 12th to win. They scored those 5, BTW, and got 2 hits the entire inning.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 23, 2013 -> 09:08 AM) Remember the original XBOX controller? That f***er was a monster!!! (the big daddy on the left) The modified (right) was a thing of beauty. Many an evening playing Halo/Halo2/MVP 2005 online with that motherf***er. I look at the picture and I can smell that controller. Is that weird? Don't care. Those things had a unique scent and I loved them.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) Santos Rodriguez with a nice performance. He's going to be looked to as a replacement for Thornton (IF IF IF) he can improve his control. We'll see what Don Cooper can do with him or Olacio. Don Cooper is not going to have to work with Olacio at the MLB level until 2016 at the very earliest, and it's more likely he'll never work with him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) My biggest regret is not referring to one of his plays as a "Dirty Sanchez" before he was gone. We still have Carlos

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2013 -> 07:07 PM) Well, one thing's for sure, if Danks gets lit up...some will definitely question him because of the Marlins' line-up being mostly AAAA fodder. Conversely, if he pitches a gem, he'll be likewise doubted...what will happen when he faces a real line-up, like in the AL East? Kind of a no-win situation, in many ways. If he pitches, it's a good sign. If the Sox score more than the Marlins, it's a win situation. If they don't, well, then we are dealing with a lose situation.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) Totally different injuries. And I'm defining "good" here with Danks as being "under a 4.00 ERA" at least. So, if I had to bet...I would say it's more likely that Martinez puts up a 750-775 OPS than Danks being a sub 4.00 ERA pitcher in 2013. Could be wrong on both counts, that's possible, too. Not to mention the fact that pitchers who miss a full year from pitching....there's just no way they're going to be able to shake off all that rust and get their control back the first 2-3 months pitching, like a hitter gets his timing back. I always thought of Martinez as "a born hitter," and I do think it's easier for a hitter than a pitcher to get back to normal. Granted, Martinez is quite a bit older....so you never know, as lots of hitters (see Konerko) tend to suddenly lose bat speed in their mid to late 30's. Yes

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 23, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) PaulGeorgeisAmoreATHLETICversion of Pippen I didn't say he was a better player. Dude, come on. If you say someone is a more athletic version than x, then you are saying they are equal to x but they are also more athletic. If I said "Adam Dunn is a more athletic version than Jim Thome," how do you interpret that? That, and you are saying that Paul George is better than one of the 50 greatest players of all time. You are going to take some heat for that regardless of anything else.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 23, 2013 -> 04:43 PM) We need to ban cleavers. CLEAVER WARS ON EVERY INTERSECTION. Even as a pro-gun conservative, I get tired of these responses. Guns are inherently more dangerous than cleavers/baseball bats/cyanide/packs of rabbits, and denying that is flat out wrong. Guns are also not dangerous when used by normal people, they are cared and used for properly. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:44 PM) unless you were drunk-blogging the NFL draft That was so awesome, I want to drunk-blog the draft every weekend. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Worrying about service time for Josh Phegley is about as absurd as it gets. As far as Nate Jones goes, you can't hide a guy in your bullpen when it doesn't have a guy who can pitch multiple innings. No, worrying about service time is not absurd, it's actually a fiscally responsible decision for a move that is, at best, going to improve the club's chances by 5%. And you are not hiding Jones, you let him work through it. He's had several very good outings this year as well as a few very bad outings. Guys struggle from time to time and banishing him to the minors when there are no superior options is not the answer to the problem.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) Part of the problem this organization has is it waits too long to fix fixable problems. Demoting Jones is an example of that as well as continuing to play Flowers when Phegley is tearing up Triple A. #1, this is something Jones needs to work out in the majors. Everything is fine with him physically, there's no one in the minors who will perform better than he will, and he has had about 2-3 outings which have really, really skewed his stats to look terrible. I won't suggest he's pitched well, because he most certainly hasn't, but the 6.33 ERA is quite misleading, considering he has a FIP of 3.74 and an xFIP of 4.54. His numbers should look better than they are and there really is no better option to use in the minors. It's just a matter of throwing him and letting him work it out. #2, whether Phegley is the better option is up for debate, but the only argument you need for Phegley to stay down is service time. The most Phegley would add to the Sox at this point between the time he would not longer be Super 2 eligible is half a win. Half a win is absolutely worth the $5-10 million in additonal funds that Phegley would cost the Sox in the long run by simpy calling him up 3-4 weeks too early. On top of that, by letting him wait until no longer Super 2 eligible, you allow Flowers a little extra time to figure his swing out.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ May 23, 2013 -> 12:28 PM) I see a hybrid of Nick Young and Xavier Henry. A wing who can score, but provides nothing else. It's very disappointing that just 3 years ago, this guy was going to be the next Kobe, killer instinct and winning attitude and all. Now he probably won't even be a starter in the league. Maybe he will still, but it's a matter of being in the right situation. He is honestly the guy that, as a very inexperienced fan, intrigues me the most. I could see him becoming a big time scoring threat, a backup type who eventually falls to 11th or 12th man territory, or he could fall completely out of the league.

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ May 23, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) It's great to see Neal Cotts back in the majors. You see his numbers in the minors this year? Holy s***. 15 G 23 IP 42 K (16.4 K/9) 5 BB (2 BB/9) 1 HR (0.4 HR/9) 2 ER (0.78 ERA) 0.78 WHIP If he carries over half of that to the majors, he's going to be doing work.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 23, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) Red flag was he was 26 before he showed anything. The White Sox started talking about Nate Jones about 4-5 years ago. He's always had a big arm, but needed refinement. The red flag here is that he's a wild pitcher who probably needs some intense side sessions to get going and get back on track again.
