  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) Hawkins home run from yesterday http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...47&sid=milb He just can't hit a cheapie, can he?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) Hawkins 1/4, 2 K's, HR (11), 2 RBI's (31) currently at .222. Semien all the way down to .256. Seems like Trayce Thompson is doomed to hit in the .240's every year. He's got to get his average at least into the .260's to be taken seriously as a prospect (to be an everyday CFer) in the next year or so. Petricka's going to have a shot at being in the bullpen mix in 2014, in all likelihood. If Trayce Thompson hits .240, and his power translates, he's going to be an everyday CFer for someone. The fear is that he's going to hit in the .200s or worse.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) I hope Brady gets hurt and the Pats are forced to use Tebow Ryan Mallett
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 07:45 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 7h Axelrod on the fog: "I didn't see all those home runs go out so that was cool." Awesome
  5. MLB is holding a vote to honor some heroes at the All-Star Game this year. The idea itself is a really cool idea to let these people have some time in the spotlight after all the self-sacrifice they've put in to ensuring safety for those in both immediate danger and in our country too. /sales pitch However, a lady I work with has a nephew who is eligible to be one of these heroes. Nick Kimmel, nominated by the San Diego Padres, is a triple amputee after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan. He really is an incredible story of human spirit and perseverence. If you watched the World Series, you may have seen him throw out a first pitch. Nick's first pitch If you could vote for him, I'd greatly appreciate it, and I know how Soxtalk likes to vote in droves. /sales pitch But if you know someone or you want to vote for White Sox guys, I don't mind. http://mlb.mlb.com/tribute/2013/
  6. I like Dee Gordon but there's no way I'm giving up that much for him, even if the deal does free up a bunch of payroll. At that point, you may as well give up an OK arm and take a shot on Jemile Weeks, even if he does play 2B, or bring him in and ship Beckham out (though I really don't like the idea of dealing Beckham right now either). I think you might have the workings of a trade there, but you absolutely need more than that.
  7. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Man if the rumored price of 350 for the ps4 is correct it might blow the Xbone out of the water If the PS4 comes out at $350, they are going to put XBox out of commission.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) I wonder if the Cubs would be interested in any of the White Sox pitching in return for Dan Vogelbach. Vogelbach can really rake. He is at Low A out at Kane County. I have seen him a few times this year and will again on Sunday. He is definitely a DH though. Then you don't want to trade for him. You don't trade for definite DH's when they are in low A.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) IMO, it would really behoove the White Sox to avoid grabbing pitchers in any trade this year (unless they're buried down in A-ball). Their rotation is stacked and their bullpen may need an extra veteran arm or two next year, but its in a better place than the lineup. If the Sox pick up a starter who can be a #3-#4 starter, he's just going to be stuck at Charlotte next year unless someone gets hurt, and he'd be lucky to be the 2nd option in that case with guys like Johnson and Snodgress around. It doesn't necessarily have to be a #3-4 starter. I should have worded it a bit differently in stating that they should be looking for a big talent, busted prospect, and another player with a higher floor, perhaps a strong platoon left handed hitter. I don't mind them looking for big relief arms though either. About the only guy I really think has a good chance of being a major league contributor is Webb. I like Marinez, but I don't think he's going to make it at the MLB level.
  10. I would rather let Adam Dunn strike out another 300 times between now and the end of 2014 rather than trade him for either Ethier or Upton. The Sox are going to be getting out of a bad contract then rather than right back into one.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:40 AM) 4) Jesse Crain will not bring back a substantial prospect. Something, yes, but not something exciting. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) We should be able to get back two Type B prospects in the lower minors (like Jaye/Webb) or another team's 6-12 prospect, depending on the depth of their system. You aren't going to get a prospect in a team's top 5, but even just last year, teams gave up good prospects for rent-a-relievers. The Uehara to Texas comparison isn't bad except that Uehara had 2 years left on his deal. A package similar to that though - a "busted" prospect and a pitcher who projects as a #3-4 - isn't an unreasonable return. Having said prospect turn into one of the best hitters in the majors, on the other hand, is probably a bit of stretch. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) Why didn't you just say I agree ? It's not exactly what you said, but we're on the same page.
  12. The Bears have drafted a lot of good offensive linemen in the first round
  13. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 04:09 AM) If everyone on bbileks list comes off and the extra $25M ,we have $88.5M to spend .Find a sucker for Dunn eat half his salary and it's around $95M. Don't expect it all to happen of course. We trade some of those guys above and we're going to take on some salaries but hopefully not much more. And I think we're stuck with Dunn no matter what. No other team is going to pay $7 million to Adam Dunn. If you can get a team to take on $2 mill, it's worth it, because he's largely a sunk cost at this point.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) The Bulls defensively would have been sick. Stick Jordan on Wade...Pippen on Lebron and you have Harper who could have played Wade no problem either on D. Assuming they are playing without the handcheck foul, the Heat wouldn't put up 85 a game.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) Ugh, Daniel Hudson re-tore his UCL and may need the Tommy John again. That really sucks, you feel for the guy. The asshole in me wants to say that the Sox may have seen this coming which was why they wanted to get value for him too. The 3 best players they've really given up in the last 10 years are Gonzalez, McCarthy, and Hudson. Gonzalez has bitten them in the ass, but he is the case of a guy really hitting his ceiling and it is hard to project guys that are 5'10 and wild as hell. McCarthy's had arm problems, and this is the second time Hudson has torn up his elbow. You can say they've dodged bullets, but when this kind of stuff happens for 10+ years, it becomes less about dodging bullets and more about being ahead of the curve.
  16. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Wait, Trout was available when the Sox picked? Yes. Sox took Mitchell 23rd, Trout went 25th.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) This is an impressive contrast in posts. That was my exact thought QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) Sox 6th Round Pick: James Dykstra....RHP 6-4 above average fastball. 6'4'', big fastball...where have I heard that before? QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) What about Ozney? lawl
  18. I don't agree with him when he says the Heat had better players. If you are going to match them up talent wise, the only guy you can say is clearly better overall is Birdman. Rodman would destroy Bosh defensively and Bosh would never grab a board. Pippen was faster and stronger than Wade and had a stronger jumper. I've also said my piece on Jordan. And really, Chalmers and Harper were 3rd or 4th options at best, so it doesn't really matter who is the best out of those two.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) (Do teams get a compensatory pick in these rounds if a guy doesn't sign? Thanks, don't remember how the rule changed). I believe top 5 rounds are still protected, but don't quote me on that. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) Interesting. He's a Junior so if he returns to school and things don't go well he could potentially screw himself. Or he could potentially make himself a lot more money too. Appel sure did.
  20. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) 6'04" 215lbs DOB: 10/04/94 | Lowry was looked at primarily as a catcher before his fastball velocity spiked last year. He has touched 96 mph this spring, but more regularly throws around 90 mph. Listed at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, Lowry has excellent size for a right-hander. That and his inexperience on the mound lead scouts to think he will be able to sustain higher velocity down the road as he gets more comfortable as a pitcher. Lowry also throws a slider and splitter, but both are still in their nascent stages. He aggressively attacks hitters and is viewed mostly as a thrower, but there are some signs he is beginning to get a better feel for pitching. Lowry is committed to Texas Tech. I really, really like the sound of this kid. Big boy, good velocity, fresh pitching arm...this is a great pick. Let's hope he signs (which is something the Sox have proven capable of doing). Depending on how strongly he's committed to Texas Tech, this is where those "overdrafts" (which really means underslot) comes in handy. You can use the money you save there and make Lowry a little bigger offer if necessary to come off the commit. It's a high risk pick, but if it pans out, he could be a great pitcher.
  21. QUOTE (staxx @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) Wow. That kid does have some pop. 7.42 60 yard dash is not bad AT ALL for his size. He's also like, what, 18? He'll probably improve that by a tenth of a second (or two) by the time he's 22 or so and by the time he's 26 or 27 he'll lose it and more unless he keeps working hard with it. Besides, when you hit it 450 feet, you can run as fast around the bases as you want.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) Your mistake was not switching to the superior console long ago. Yes. I was debating PS3 vs 360 when I was buying it, and chose the 360 based on having games for it already. I've literally played those original games for a combined 8 hours. That was very sound reasoning on my part. Pretty sure I was drinking quite a bit at that point.
  23. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) I really don't see the problem with the system having to be connected to the internet. I don't think my Xbox 360 has ever not been online. You don't turn it off? QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) My launch ps3 lasted me until this spring without an issue That's truly incredible. You must have had it in a really well ventilated spot and kept very good care of it.
  24. QUOTE (Jim Busby @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) Lets hope he (Tim Anderson) signs with the White Sox and agrees to stay always from Steve Lakes and his company of hitting instructors. We get average or better hitters in the Draft and Steve Lake and company show them how to how to become strike out prospects. Get rid of that poor former major league catcher (Steve Lake a .225 hitter) and replace him for someone like Joey Corra who at lease hit over .260 in the majors and can talk to the Latin Players in their own language. Rudy Jaramillo is considered by many to be a very good hitting coach. It even earned him $800k a year from the Cubs. Funny part is that Jaramillo never played in the majors. He played in the minors and had a career minor league batting average of .258. Above rookie league ball (he hit .365 as a 22 year old), he hit .243 in the minors. s***, Jeff Manto was a .230 hitter, though, to be fair, when he played he hit for power. He actually had a pretty nice year in 1995 for Baltimore. Don Cooper had a career ERA of 5.27, and he's considered to be a top 5 (if not top 3, if not the best) pitching coach in the league. Point being you don't have to be a successful major leaguer to be a good coach. You can't turn chickens*** into chicken dinner.
  25. QUOTE (staxx @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) I was looking at that the other day. I went into it expecting a decent difference. I'd really like to see what he can do, even though at one point I was a Flowers supporter. I'm in the same boat. I still think Flowers can be a decent bat, but it's just not happening right now. You have to keep Flowers just because he's young and still offers killer power, so that means you have to DFA Gimenez (and people will get upset over losing a 30 year old backup catcher who, up to this point, has been a career minor leaguer).
