QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 12:04 AM) Rookie ball is fine by me. He just needs to face less advanced pitching while rebuilding his confidence and swing. No. You don't send a guy who has had the success Hawkins has had at High-A down to Low-A or rookie ball. It does absolutely nothing for his development. He'd hit .400 with 30 homers in rookie ball. This is something he needs to work out at High-A. Promotions are silly, but sitting in High-A all year is perfectly fine.

WHOA WHOA WHOA I keep it on my shoulder and behind my ears and say it's for scars. Psshhh, you actually think pooping takes 20 minutes?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) Pro-tip Leave a stick of deodorant in your desk. I have like literally everything else, including (but not limited to): Chapstick Ibuprofen Acetaphetamine Eyedrops Saline for nose Saline for eyes Allergy medicine FACE LOTION so why I do not have deodorant is stupid.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Your comfort level has increased exponentially as the day has gone on? Weird. Yes. No. Discomfort. Dammit, it keeps getting worse. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) I'm sure that applies to the poor bastards that have to sit next to your stank ass, too. Keeping the pitsies shut pretty tight today. Best part is that I get to go for a haircut after this too! f***

I forgot to put on deodorant this morning before leaving for work. Here is a graph of my comfort level as the day has gone on, with the Y-Axis being noon

Kruk's listed weight on B-R is 170.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 12:26 PM) Here's the actual damage map. Dozen or so tornado reports, 176 straight-line wind damage reports, 75+ hail damage reports so far. People can say meteorologists suck, but that was pretty much dead on.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) Oh come on Isn't Geoff Blum an Astros announcer now? The last game of the series against them in 2006 was pretty cool. They lost the game but that was a ridiculous comeback regardless.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) Indeed. I'd be happy to part with that benefit to get the DH in the NL Especially when you can just charge the mound and break collarbones if you think they throw at you intentionally.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) Yeah, I have no problem hitting the opposing pitcher. That's the one benefit of the NL, that pitchers might have to deal with the consequences of their hit batsmen. Which, by my count, is the ONLY benefit from the pitcher hitting.
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) I know there's history, and i dont care, you don't hit the other pitcher, and if you really feel like you have to, you don't go after his recently surgically repaired shoulder. that's just pathetic. If he doesn't want to get hit, then maybe he should stop starting fights he can't finish.

If you set the HR at 1.5, I'd take the over. Under on the K's though, just barely.

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) Your idea is the MLB equal of going into the bar and screaming "So which if you b****es am I going to be banging tonight." You don't declare yourself sellers. It reeks of desperation and you aren't going to maximize your return because everyone is going to wait you out. I think to some extent you can, but you have to play it from the stereotypical girl's perspective rather than the guy's. Be a little slutty, feel the guys' offers, tease a few different guys and then go home with the one that has the biggest package. The guy is going to tell everyone at the bar that he wants to get laid and he is going to go up to all the girls and get no response and then, by the end, he is going to get one desperate, lonely girl to take him home and they'll have sloppy, quick sex and then he'll leave her house the next morning in shame and full of regret. -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 12:30 PM) That is why I made the statement that I made. Sox do this way too much. Every.single.team.does.this. Quit.f***ing.b****ing.about.it.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) Dunn for Smoak straight up, Mariners pick up $1M this year and $2M next year with the Sox paying the difference. Would you do it? I would. They'd at least have someone to plug in to take a shot on. As it is, there are 2 moves to make re: Dunn, either you get a team like the Dodgers (and maybe only them) to take on his salary in exchange for a good player, saving them from having to trade anyone of value, or you dump Dunn and eat his deal yourself. You only do #2 though if you have someone to plug in who is worth playing. Dumping Dunn for ex. and plugging in Casper Wells does nothing, and you actually get worse offensively. I know you want this to happen now now now but it's going to wait until after the All-Star Break. No one is going to give up anything significantly more for Jesse Crain now than they will on July 16th or July 26th. Same goes for Thornton and Rios and they will actually give up less for Peavy, if that's indeed the route they go. Seriously, it's this simple 1a.) Start shopping players now 1b.) Send scouts out 1c.) Let guys play 2a.) Get reports on said scouted players 2b.) Let guys play 3a.) Start collecting and countering offers. 3b.) Let guys play 4a.) Progress in trade talks to the point of finalizing deals 4b.) Let guys play 5.) Make trades Jesse Crain has been one of the best relievers in the MLB this year and teams will be willing to wait to get him. If the Sox remain out of the race, they will deal him shortly after the All-Star Break. People need to seriously relax. This s*** isn't going to happen overnight, and they are going to take their time making these sorts of decisions. EDIT: You are right in that you don't want to wait until the deadline itself. Teams will lowball and keep moving on at that point. You want him and really any other players dealt by July 30th (or, at the very least, in deep negotiations). -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) That's a definite yes but Pierzynski doesn't represent a "who" so much as a "what" and that is someone more productive than Flowers. I think there definitely some "who" mixed in. Pierzynski was a rock behind the plate, but acting as if he was a stud catcher every year for 8 years is absolutely incorrect. He had several mediocre to bad years mixed in there as well.

QUOTE (juddling @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) The Opposing Pitcher's Guide to Tyler Flowers: Page One--- First pitch--throw whatever the hell you want right down the middle....he will watch it go by every time Second pitch-- throw whatever the hell you want in the dirt....he swing at it every time This is the guide to throwing to about 100% of major league hitters until they realize that you are trying to get ahead of them early with a cookie. Then they hit it.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) Realistically, does any team take a look at Dunn? If he continues to hit well and gets his average up to .200, along with 25+ HRs by the deadline it's possible I guess. But it would be a salary dump for next year plus I'm sure the Sox would have to send some money. Who knows though? If you get anyone to take him on, you are pretty much giving him away at this point. I don't think it's likely, but a team with a bit of money who needs someone at 1B or DH might consider it. About the only team I can think of at this point is the Yankees, and I have strong doubts about that. -

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) Draft's over, no more excuses. 29 other teams need to know today that we're selling and that we're taking offers & dispatching scouts now. No more bulls***, you lost the offseason, you piddled around, now get busy. Again, there's still no real point in doing this so early when there's plenty of time to get these trades finished up after the break. You can send scouts out to get info on guys, but beyond that they are going to wait to make any trades. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) Things happen, but may I ask why do they alway happen to us? They don't. This is just not a very strong team.

No. There's no room on the MLB roster, his OPS outside of last year is about .640, and he's going to end up on his 4th different team this year. There's literally no point in adding him.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) No. My phone is paired with my car's system. I can't do texting through it. I really flat out just want to have a button that turns off all texting while i drive. Like a driving function. Basically force myself to not know its coming. Ideally it would text me. Usually when I'm on my phone while driving its a conference call for work that I zone in and out of anyway but I hate seeing texts and having to debate whether i should look. That is what scares me and I want to just have a function that is a car function that just shuts that s*** down. Not sure if they have it for iPhone, but I use DriveSafe.ly. It will read texts (and emails) to you and send a corresponding text to the initial party stating that you are driving at the moment.

Mike Miller is 8 of his last 9 from 3. He's also 12 of his last 16. And, of his last 23 shots from the field, 21 of them have come from 3.

QUOTE (Jim Busby @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) I did not know Don Copper was our HITTING Coach. Hitting is our problem not Pitching Then they should bring in better hitters. Gordon Ramsay can be your personal chef, but he can't turn chicken s*** into chicken dinner.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) Yep. The most obvious candidate is Axelrod, but it could just as easily be Quintana the way things are going. If they can't figure it out, go to a 6 man, so that every starter is not taxed and they're all ready to hit the ground running in 2014...maybe adding Johnson into the mix and subtracting one of the starters. The way things are going, it probably will be Peavy (dealt), but they have to wait for the right deal and not just trade him out of frustration for less than he's worth. I'd say there's about a 5% chance Peavy is dealt this year. Coming off an injury, teams won't want to give up much, plus he's under team control for another 2 years after this season. There's no rush to deal him. In fact, I'd say there's a better chance Danks is dealt.
