You guys are struggling. Went to a hotel with a girl last night. She wouldn't let me do her. I still saw her nekked from behind. It was awesome.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:49 PM) Honestly, do you really feel that a former teammate and also a hitter is going to defend a pitcher (who happened to be on a rival team for a number of years)? C'mon. It's like when Iowa would lose to MSU every time and Izzo would say what a great coach Todd Lickliter was....he's going to defend another B10 coach, he's not going to rip into him. Heck, you might even argue that he wants aforementioned sucky coach to stay in place as long as possible so your team can keep beating on him, lol. Really...Konerko defending Quentin isn't news, any more than Mattingly, a fellow hitter, ripping on Quentin and favoring his own player. Who do you think has more intimate knowledge of the relationship between Greinke and Quentin - Mattingly or Konerko? It's obviously Konerko, and I will favor him 100% of the time. If you ask Billy Butler or Alex Gordon, I imagine they'd side with Greinke, but you never know. Those would be the types of guys to ask.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) Barry was funny because in those last two years he basically was like "F U. I dont care that you know im roiding. Watch me hit another pitch into the ocean" Arod has done nothing but repeatedly get caught lying, and on top of that his performance has fallen through the floor. I don't even care that he did steroids, I loved watching him hit. The old saying is there are guys you don't leave the room when they are up to bat (sic) but with Bonds, I literally would take time out of my day to make sure I watched him hit because his at bats were just that entertaining. I've never, ever, ever seen so much fear in any pitcher, and I've never seen a prettier, quicker, more fluid, powerful swing. ARod, on the other hand, is a douche who now sucks at baseball.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) someone needs to make a gamethread maybe you should stop b****ing about it and do it

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) You want to take on that contract? I'm not sure I do. Suuuuure, why not

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) We need a hard-throwing righty SP. I want Peavy to be our 2nd righty. Then we are set. Quintana for Verlander

Jesus, ARod is a bigger joke than Barry Bonds

I'm of the opinion that one of the biggest waste of resources is any pick in the top 2 rounds for a receiver when you already have a dependable #1. Depending upon what type of receiver you #1 is, you can find compliementary players to work around him. If you have a guy like Mike Wallace, find guys who run quick, crisp routes. If you have a guy like Brandon Marshall, get a guy who can stretch the field. WR's are just so hit or miss that spending a ton of money on them seems to be an inefficient use of resources.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) Except instead of "looking at me like that", it's "This guy continues to throw s*** at me, and then when I stand up for myself, he has the nerve to say something s***ty to me." Greinke deserved to get charged, but not get his collarbone broken, that was a fluke. No. Nobody deserves to get charged. I don't feel bad for him because, quite frankly, Greinke seems like a d-bag, but charging the mound is stupid as hell and solves literally nothing.

The White Sox were 17-21 on May 18th last year. They looked like a mediocre, terrible, .500 team. In fact, it was actually a pretty damn good team that had a pretty terrible collapse over the last 2 weeks of the season that brought them to only 8 games over .500 (Pyth W-L was 88-74). They don't look good right now, but in 2 weeks time, they could look great. It's a long season, and anyone making judgment calls right now is doing the same thing as predicting the entire Bears' season based off of 1 game.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) LOL at Greinke being the saint in this situation. Like Q said, if Greinke doesn't talk s*** to him, nothing happens. You run your mouth, and no one feels bad for you when get hit. See example: Pierzynski, A.J. If you shrug it off and hit a game winning homer off him later in the game, you're a hero and you can talk more s***. TCQ should have just moved on and played. I still miss the guy and wish he were in Chicago, but just look straight forward and play the game.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) I don't think Quentin gives a s*** if he is suspended 2-3 games or whatever it may be. Talk s***, get hit, Greinke's learned his lesson. Yeah, this is meathead logic. This is a microcosm of how people end up in jail and dead in a gutter. "Well he shouldn'ta looked at me like that." I understand both sides of this. Greinke shouldn't have thrown, Quentin shouldn't have charged, this is all really stupid.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) If Grienke kept his b**** mouth shut, he wouldn't have a broken collarbone right now. Q even said in the post game interview that this could have all been avoided if Grienke didn't say what he said to him, but instead he mouthed off like a b**** and took his punishment. And Quentin could have avoided a suspension and breaking Greinke's collarbone if he's the bigger man. He needs to just walk away in that situation and get him later in the game. You don't get paid to fight and you don't put runs on the scoreboard for throwing punches. Quit excusing your actions because someone else opened their mouth.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) Of course a ball going towards someone's head looks intentional. It's hard for it not to. That's why you use the other context clues. You have to respect the "situation" argument as it's part of painting the whole picture. On another note, why is it "acceptable" to charge the mound and clear the benches in baseball? And he hit 6 of the previous 1600 guys he faced. This isn't a guy that's wild and accidentally loses one. Next, when Quentin stares him down, all he has to do is give a slightly apologetic wave or circle the mound or ask for a baseball from the ump - anything to avoid making eye contact with Quentin. Pitchers do this thing all the time. His demeanor after hitting him tells me he had intention of doing so, and the fact that he immediately went into fight mode, rather than trying to defend himself, further cements that idea in my mind. Regarding Quentin charging, it's not acceptable. I never said it was. If Joe Blow is 5'10'', 150, and drunk, and he starts messing with Randy Bobandi, who is 6'2'', 220, and sober with a short temper, are people going to feel sorry for Joe Blow when he was the one that stirred the pot? I don't. I mean, what Randy did wasn't acceptable, and he should have kept his cool, but sometimes you lose it in the heat of the moment like that. It's not right, but I understand it. EDIT: I misread that last part. I have no idea why it's acceptable. I think it's a territorial thing of home plate, and then guys come out to defend their teammate or break up the fight. Then other guys get riled up and it gets worse. It's stupid.

I typically respect the "pay mind to the situation" argument, but that looked as blatant as anything I've ever seen in my life. You argue what you want to argue; I think you're wrong.

It must be said - Hawk Harrelson has to go
witesoxfan replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 11:34 AM) Did Hawk really describe one of Span's hit as being as soft as a "duck passing gas" last night? The original phrase is not "duck snort," but "duck fart." Duck fart is obviously not as air-friendly, so he censored it to duck snort instead. Pretty simple, really. So, when he says it's a duck passing gas, it's just another way of saying duck snort/fart. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 11, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) but he says he can only tell the future and not the past. That's because we already history class to tell us about the past and every 4th grader knows that history class sucks

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) Ok, and the entire al central division sucks outside of one team. There's only one sure thing in the east, and I feel that's tampa. I'm not sold on toronto at all. Yankees and red Sox aren't what they once were. Still not sure what the O's are. In the west, the angels should be good (thought that last year, though), texas has slipped some, the mariners suck. The a's, like the o's, are another team I can't figure out. But I wouldn't put either in the top 5 in the NL. I'm sorry. The gap has closed significantly. Then use your knowledge of baseball and look at how good those teams are. Both Oakland and Baltimore are loaded with talent. Toronto is going to hit at some point in time too, my concern with them is that their rotation isn't going to keep people off the board (Morrow is solid, but they're depending on a knuckler, two soft-tossing lefties, and a pitcher who is overly dependent on his fastball...it just scares me). I'm also taking KC/CLE/CHW over MIL/PIT/CHC, but the top two in the NL are better. I see the best two teams in the MLB being Detroit and Washington. Atlanta and Cinci are in the top 10 for sure. Tampa, Texas, Baltimore, and Oakland are in my top 10 too. I probably go LAA/SF/STL/LAD after that. The gap has closed signicantly, that you are right on, but I think the AL is still superior. There are more good teams in the AL and the middle of the pack teams are better too. The only thing the NL might have are better cellar dwellers, but Miami/Houston is going to be tight all year while Chicago/Minnesota is tight too.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) The third spot in the lineup is for your best all around hitter. At this point that is Rios, certainly not Gillaspie. The fourth spot in the lineup is for your best power hitter, which is very clearly Dunn. There are different theories to this. I generally subscribe to the one where you want your best hitter in cleanup, your second best 5th, and your 3rd best 3rd (assuming they aren't OBP driven players, whom I would hit leadoff). This way, if your leadoff hitter gets on with nobody out, your cleanup hitter should get a shot to bring him in (as well as anybody that got on in front). If they go 1-2-3 in the first, you have the cleanup hitter leading off the next inning.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) The flip flop sounds good but it also stacks 3 righties in a row. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. Kepp and De Aza have to do a better job getting on base because Rios is hot right now. What about if we did... 1 De Aza 2 Kepp 3 Gilespie 4 Rios Then either Dunn or Konerko is hitting 6th. That's too low for either one of them.

I also wish more people would go the Torii Hunter route and throw the f***ing ball back at the pitcher.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 10:46 AM) Greinke grabbed for CQ's balls. To be fair, if I ever met TCQ, I would probably do the same thing.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) So, you're a great artist then? You could say that I am a great artist, but perhaps saying that my art defines me and is what makes me great is more accurate. (always be working)

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 10:05 AM) It wasn't a freak thing on a normal baseball play. It was an injury in a physical fight, which tends to happen. And that fight was started by Quentin for no real good reason. Greinke hit him for no real good reason as well. This is a guy who hit 2 batters last year and 4 in 2011. He faced 1,583 batters in those 2 years. I'm not going to say Greinke had what was coming to him or say what Quentin did was right, but you shouldn't hit a guy that's much bigger, faster, and stronger than you. I think you learn that in first grade.
