  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) Who won't pitch a total of 10 innings between the three of them #yawn I'd be surprised if they go 6 combined
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Lars Anderson DFA. What's your favorite memory of the Lars era? This
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) Doug Padilla ‏@ESPNChiSox White Sox to face Kershaw, Greinke and Bumgarner in their first 3 spring games. Will counter with Axelrod, Johnson and Santiago. #yikes Sox will probably win all 3, because it matters in February
  4. QUOTE (BlackJack @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) That's good enough for about 83 wins.. Even though it's a far better roster than the team that won 85 games last year. Looks like 87 wins to me
  5. Oh, and as opposed to what I may have said earlier, Morel is not a goner and, in fact, I'd venture to guess he is the first infielder up in the event of an injury, unless it is a serious injury to Alexei and Carlos Sanchez is tearing it up. Might set the roster too Peavy Sale Floyd Danks Quintana Reed Jones Crain Thornton Lindstrom Santiago (or Axelrod) Veal Flowers Konerko Beckham Keppinger Ramirez Viciedo De Aza Rios Dunn Wise A. Sanchez Gillaspie Gimenez (or Anderson whoever)
  6. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 02:11 AM) We might be up for the same, my friend is a huge sports (and White Sox) fan. If you're interested, maybe we can meet up before the game for a beer or something, assuming we do go.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) Do old people count? Only if their skin is scaly and green/purple/yellow with purple spots, their teeth are sharp, their breath is bad, they're extremely volatile, and their extinction is imminent.
  8. That is somewhat unfortunate, but I'm not entirely discouraged. He actually sounds like he will fit in pretty well.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) Pretty good article by Rosenthal... Don't overlook the Sox Wonder who the rival player was who said, "Who do they have that can be better than last year?” Interestingly enough... Fewer than 8 hours later, we have that player.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 11:34 AM) So does he start off the year platooning with Keppinger at 3B? And then if Beckham never turns it around Keppinger moves over to 2B? That has to kind of be the thought behind it. Bring in a LH 3Bman who can spell Keppinger enough. Kepp has not been good against righties in his career. Another point to make about this...Gillaspie does not have good power, but he has pretty good discipline. Doesn't strike out a ton, walks a bit, and he does hit for a decent average. As was mentioned above, I'd look for him to primarily "platoon" with Keppinger and to play primarily against RHP. Hopeful he can be a .750 OPS player (or better) in that situation. Anyone have word on his defense?
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Gillaspie is out of options. Is he a guy that's going to make the roster? I think he has to. Soptic isn't a great prospect but he's promising enough that you don't give him up for nothing, and Gillaspie's promising enough that he would get claimed by someone on waviers. If nothing else, this all but guarantees that Morel starts the year in the minors and perhaps they are in the process of shopping him as well.
  12. Those are not very strong numbers for the PCL, but more depth at 3B is not a bad thing at all. Soptic was intriguing, being able to throw 300 MPH and all, but his numbers weren't promising and he's not going to be anything more than a reliever.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) He got really drunk and was kicked out in the 7th inning when they stopped serving and he got mad about it Thought maybe he got laid or something. Not like anything cool happened in that game.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 08:03 AM) Game 2, 2005 World Series...it was kind of worth it. What happened?
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) I don't have to dream about sex or cookies. I get those whenever I want. I can't get Derrick Rose returning whenever I want! That was cookies AND sex AND riding on dinosaurs. Bet you don't get all 3 at once.
  16. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 09:59 AM) Loria has been known to do thinks that do not make sense so hope springs eternal. Seriously, I think Viciedo, because of his age and his upside, and because he would be welcome in the Cuban community around Miami, might be attractive to the Marlins as part of the compensation package for Stanton . He hit .263 over parts of three seasons , hit 25 home runs last season and is only 24 years old. He is making 2.5 Million. much less than Stanton's 8 Mil.and it is doubtful he will ever command mega money like Stanton probably will. On the other hand, maybe Stanton is being overrated and peaked last season. Perhaps AL pitching would tame his numbers down to where Viciedo and other power hitters in the AL will be in 2013. Maybe he will turn into an Alex Rios, on one year and off the next. As far what brings Sox fans to the gate, of course winning is number one but next on the list has to be home runs. All fans and especially Sox fans love to come out to the park and see some home run blasts. It has been that way forever,,, certainly since that magical 1977 season at the old yard. If Stanton is overrated and has peaked, then why do you want him? Viciedo is some great, young stud with the world ahead of him who is actually older than Stanton. I just think we can set this one to rest. Almost every team would love Stanton. It's just almost certainly not going to be here.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 08:35 AM) Officially had my 3rd D-Rose returns dream last night. Oddly enough, it was in the final minutes of the already-over Heat game. They put Rose out there in garbage time, which annoyed me, and then he threw down a dunk and came up hobbling. I have way too much invested in this kid - think of how the Bulls/ADIDAS feel!! I dream about cookies and sex and riding on dinosaurs. Steve dreams about Derrick Rose. ....
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) It really didn't feel like a bad connotation. It felt like a "that's how these things work" connotation. Just a background check basically. 1 out of 50 or something like that come back with red flags that are concerning, otherwise it's just due diligence. I didn't read it as anything bad.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) Good for De Aza, and for Rios (he now has a teammate). Rios is Puerto Rican...?
  20. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 07:21 AM) It makes all the sense in the world to try to trade for Stanton. Sale does not bring fans into the park, at least not like a slugger like Stanton would. I think Viciedo may have a bigger upside than some think. I would not be surprised if he hits 30 Home runs this season. He would fit nicely down in Miami. Yes, I certainly would like to see some trade talk between the Sox and Miami.. There is no guarantee whatsoever that Giancarlo Stanton brings fans to the park, that's merely conjecture on your part. Suggesting Stanton does and Sale does not is also conjecture and is a pointless argument anyways because the goal is to win games and White Sox typically respond only to winning - the only 2 times in the last 25 years that they had a a substantial increase in attendance were when the stadium opened and when the won the World Series, and I don't think they're going to be opening a new stadium any time soon. They've had a multitude of great players during that time frame, and the only thing that increased attendance substantially was winning the World Series. Viciedo does have upside, but he is also on a major league contract, costs money, and will only be under team control for another 5 years. Plus he put up a .750 OPS last year, which is not desirable out of a LFer. So, while I'm sure you do want to see trade talks between the Sox and Marlins, and I'm sure the Sox have asked - like 25-28 other teams have asked - it's ultimately up to the Marlins, and given the actual and relative cost - half of the White Sox legitimate prospects versus maybe 10-20% of another team's - trading for Stanton at this point in time just does not make sense. There's no guarantee that his addition gets you anything in the next 4 years or so, and if you have to give up Sale, it's effectively a wash. Ultimately, trading for him could prove to be unnecessary given that the White Sox actually have some OK prospects right now, meaning they don't have the worst farm system on the planet anymore.
  21. QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Feb 22, 2013 -> 12:31 AM) I don't think the Marlins are necessarily looking for high priced talent in exchange. Given the recent fire sale by the Marlins, I believe that they would be looking for young prospects along with 2 or 3 major league players who are young, have reasonable contracts, and have a good deal of upside. I would consider offering a package of players that fit that requirement including two or possibly even three of the following major league players/pitchers plus a prospect, - Addison Reed, Viciedo, Morel, Quintana, Jordan Danks, Gordon Beckham, Tyler Flowers. With the Marlins talent depleted at several positions, I think a trade for several players would suit them better than having one home run king and then a severe talent drop-off with the rest of the players on the team. The Sox on the other hand could benefit greatly from having a superstar and would have much less of a problem filling in around him even after a big trade. You aren't getting Stanton with any of that. You wouldn't get Stanton if you included all of those players. IF they were to trade him, they would be looking for high upside talent with a lot of service time (meaning like no prior major league experience). The package merely begins with Trayce Thompson, Carlos Sanchez, and Erik Johnson, and you may be looking at including Scott Snodgress and/or Viciedo as well. That simply doesn't make sense no matter how good Stanton is. Or you're looking at giving up Sale, and honestly, that doesn't make a lot of sense either.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) Rose's brothers have always been annoying. I do agree with them though, the FO should have done something. They're so unimaginative. What were they going to do this deadline? There was virtually no one of interest traded or available, and the Bulls really didn't have anything of value they could trade anyway that would have been worth it. The offseason gets more interesting. You can amnesty Boozer to free up room under the cap and Hamilton becomes more attractive as an expiring contract. From there you and wheel and deal a little bit. The biggest need will still be a 2, but building around a core of Rose/#2/Deng/Gibson/Noah has potential to be an excellent starting group that can continue to play shutdown defense.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 21, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) Now he's bench material behind Ellis and Jennings. Just play him at the 3 and go with the no-defense, 3-pointstravaganza
