You are looking pretty much at Joeckel, Fisher, and Johnson as 1st round tackles, and I still don't see any of them falling past the top half of the 1st. The Bears will have to trade up to get one of them, and beyond those 3, none are really 1st round quality.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) @AdamSchefter Chiefs didn't use tag on WR Dwayne Bowe because they didn't have to. Chiefs and Bowe have reached agreement on a five-year deal. @AdamSchefter Deal with Dwayne Bowe allows Chiefs to tag OL Branden Albert. Stevie J was out doing some recruiting on Bowe, but I'm OK with the Bills not signing him. He is like the most enigmatic WR in the entire NFL. He is a top 5-10 talent sometimes and there are other times you wouldn't even know he was out there. Maybe Reid can get some more consistency out of him. Obviously having Matt Cassel throwing to him didn't help matters. If they franchise Albert, they almost have to be looking pass rusher #1, don't they? They can trade down too, but they'd have to be willing to accept something really, really small to trade down (which wouldn't be a bad idea anyways).

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 09:41 AM) Glad to hear it. The following must've been totally wrong on rotowire this morning 3/4/2013: Gillaspie leads the White Sox with two home runs and seven RBI this spring, but he is unlikely to break camp with the major league roster. They're idiots.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) Requesting your opinion: are chances higher than 25% Conor Gillaspie doesnt make the Sox? I would put the chances of Gillaspie not making the Sox at 1%.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) Is Dewayne Wise better than Jordan Danks? Does he deserve the spot over Danks? I think he has a better feel for the major league level and working off the bench. He's got enough pop in the bat that he can be a valuable guy to have on the team. Unless Wise shows to be truly incompetent for whatever reason, he's a better option than Danks.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Feb 23, 2013 -> 12:09 AM) Nice wishful thinking article. The Sox have trouble beating the Royals. The Tiger have decent pitching too and probably a better pitching coach. I think they are still the team to beat in the AL. Don Cooper is the best pitching coach in the game. It's not even worth debating.

Oh, and Lillian...you wanted another left handed bat to face the tough righties? I imagine you'll see this lineup (or a variation) a few times in those situations 1) De Aza CF- L 2) Keppinger/Beckham 2B - R 3) Rios RF - R 4) Konerko 1B - R 5) Dunn DH - L 6) Wise LF - L 7) Gillaspie 3B - L 8) Ramirez SS - R 9) Gimenez C - S If at any point late in the game, they bring in a LH reliever to try and plow through that stretch of 3 lefties, you pinch hit Viciedo/Beckham/Keppinger, and it messes all of it up right away.

Sox trade RP Jeff Soptic for 3B Conor Gillaspie

QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 1, 2013 -> 05:41 AM) I am not stretching anything, bud. I do not respond to every comment by every anonymous poster, especially if they lack substance, do not appear to be from a genuine Sox fan or are otherwise rude or mean spirited. The fact is that Flowers has hit for a low average and that has not only been during September call-ups. Of course, teams that are out of the Division race call up minor league pitching so what information would a .200 average against that level of pitching tell you? You come off like I am the only Sox fan that is concerned that Flowers may not be able to cut down on his strike-outs, make contact and hit for a decent average given what we have seen from him over time. Or you like to pick straw man arguments with some anonymous "dude." Sorry, I'm not biting. Carry on. Flowers splits You mean like where, as an obviously pro-Flowers guy, I stated he is absolutely the biggest question mark on this team? In this very thread? There is concern there, and there's certainly potential for him to bust, but there's also potential for him to be an incredibly valuable player, moreso than Pierzynski ever was. Flowers absolutely destroyed minor league pitching and was very good in the second half last year and I'm hopeful that he finally grew acclimated to major league pitching and he will be able to be be a force offensively. I absolutely realize there's a chance he can bust, but at some point in time, you need to let Flowers sink or swim. There really is no better year than this year. And stop using the Phegley argument. He's terrible. Look at his minor league numbers beyond his batting average. He is a bad singles hitter (.260) who doesn't walk a lot, and there are far greater concerns regarding his long-term health than there are Flowers. I like Phegley and think he can make it in this league, but if he is starting for the White Sox at any point this year for an extended period of time, they're in trouble. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) So Gillaspie is the Manly Man and Flowers is the Girly Man? Yes. -
QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 11:45 PM) Obviously I'm jumping to conclusions saying this is lingering, but its really a good time for Gillespie to shine and he's doing pretty good for himself so far... Trade could wind up being a bigger deal for the 2013 Sox than originally thought. He's doing this off guys that'll be bagging groceries in a few weeks.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mlb--national...-165508254.html Article about Stephen Strasburg and the likeliness that he will fade away, as well as the historical numbers he has put up thus far. Oh, and a nice Buehrle shoutout in there too.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) Guys, no one wants Brent Morel, lol. Come on. Are you sure? I hear that if Pedro Alvarez strikes out again this Spring, the Pirates are going to make him walk the plank. Maybe they could use Morel? You know, before they make him walk the plank.

Sox trade RP Jeff Soptic for 3B Conor Gillaspie
witesoxfan replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think it's the biggest question mark as well, because I honestly have no idea how well Flowers is going to play (as opposed to pretty much every other position), but you have to try and plan for the future eventually. The Sox are likely going to be a 2nd or 3rd place team this year with an outside shot at a division title...if Flowers is costing you that badly, you can trade him at that point. If he proves he can be a .250/25/.825 sort of player, then you have a catcher for a few years. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) I remember because I was part of the discussion. People wanted him gone. Luckily we have archives. The game vs. Toronto right before the asb was rock bottom. Good place to see just how much the opinion on Flowers has apparently changed a lot in short time. And then he put up an .840 OPS when given additional playing time in the second half.
