  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) Then you think it's awesome for the first eighth of the contract then cry for the rest. And then you get Kyle Cofield and you're all "this guy is gonna be good!" and then NOPE
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) JC's just breaking down any more. Shame. He's effective when healthy, but this is a reminder as to why you don't sign relievers to long and even medium length contracts.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) So many that Boras is sure he won't wait till mid-season to sign. I wonder how much Herm would command on an open market? $500k and a box of fresh Krispy Kremes every Monday
  4. Bauer going down almost has to be a service time thing. No other reason he shouldn't be on that squad. They'll be better than they were last year, but I mean, they spent like $100 million on mediocre players. We're talking a battle between Kazmir (even with velocity, unless his slider's back, he's hot garbage) and Carrasco, who is just not a very inspiring pitcher.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 11:27 AM) Dump all points into 3 point shooting and some basic low post skills. Use a lot of picks. I had a streak of like, 45, 59, 67, 75, 80, 104 in my rookie season and my player only had one elite skill, the threes, with a decent post game. That's how I started too. Everything into 3's and medium range. Slowly started to add more speed, quickness, ball handling (security and off-hand) and just really refined my offensive game. Then I started working defense (because of steals and rebounds), and then passing (to open up pass fakes and assists for pointsies), and soon you max out every one of your ratings and you just start earning points to increase max levels and abilities. My dude last year put up 54/6/6/6 SPG/1 BPG, 54% FG, 40% 3PT. Also, like 3 TOs and 3 PFs a game, but I don't care, we went 70-12 and won 16 straight in the postseason. He's at like 62/7.5/6/5 58% FG 43% 3 PT to start the year for me this year, but that's only 7 games (haven't lost yet). QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) I like to pretend there was no NBA before 1980. Thank god I wasn't born in 1955 and forced into thinking players from those times were great. Wilt would still hang today. A lot of those guys were twigs and smaller back then because they didn't have modern medicine and nutrition helping them out. Wilt would roll the NBA right now...and he'd probably f*** it right after that, because he pretty much f***ed anything in site.
  6. A player has scored 60 or more points in a game 62 times in NBA history. Wilt Chamberlain has 32 of those. That is stupid.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) I hope they break it. I really do. Just like I hope to see someone score 100 points in a game some day. I've scored 104 and 98 with my guy in NBA 2k12. The key is - you have to take every single f***ing shot. And you have to get rid of it quickly too. I don't see any way it'll ever happen unless some dude takes like 30 foul shots in a game and makes almost all of them. Kobe is going to get as close as anybody will ever get.
  8. Yeah screw you Brian Urlacher for being so good for 13 years you suck!
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 21, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) The world is a heartless, sad place. I figured I'd see a post like this in the Steubenville thread...not a Brian Urlacher Appreciation Thread. He is among the elite linebackers to play for the Bears. It's just too bad he didn't win a ring. --- Now...where is the Nick Roach appreciation thread?
  10. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) They lost their best WR and their best CB and added a WR on the downside of his career. Minnesota isn't a threat. K. I was pretty much just talking about them signing Urlacher, sooooo
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) It's almost like they're going with Axelrod because then it avoids a tougher decision when Danks is ready. Meaning, if Santiago is really good as a starter, then they have to make a tough call on Quintana if he has a couple bad starts. This way, Santiago stays in the pen, and the good soldier Axelrod makes a few starts, and goes to Charlotte. It's honestly not the worst thing in the world. If Q and Santiago both come out blazing guns, and Floyd is struggling to the tune of a 5.50, what do you do when Danks gets back? You have to go with a 6-man, kick Floyd out (which also brings up the dilemma of 4 lefties, but I have honestly been thoroughly convinced that's not a big deal), or you kick one of the young guys out who's doing well. Plus with this, you leave yourself with 3 lefties in the pen (unless Santiago is in Charlotte starting).
  12. The Bills could use him. Kelvin Sheppard is about all that they have at MLB, and he was pretty much a JAG last year. Their passing down linebackers are fine, but they could use a little more thump in the middle. Of course, if he wants to go to a contender, then that leaves the Bills out. Seem to recall that the Vikings were kicking the tires on him too.
  13. At the very least, it's less gimmicky than the Wildcat
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) Read option should be a no. The problem is that if you dont have experience with it, you are going to end up getting your QB killed as their responsibility is to hold the ball until the DE commits. So if you are scheming against the Bears, you just simply instruct the DE to crash the QB every single play and get as many free hits as possible. You need an QB who can legitimately make someone miss 1 on 1 to run this scheme. That is why it works for players like RGIII, Cam Newton, etc. If the DE crashes the QB and the DE misses, the QB is free, so when you are playing a legitimate run qb, the DE has to respect the outside. Does Cutler really need to be taking more free hits? It takes a quick juke or stutter step to gain 5 yards. Besides, you can just give it to Forte 5-7 times a game, and if he gains 40-50 yards, then teams will have to try and crash him more often. If they do so, Cutler is free.
  15. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) As long as he's 7th and in Charlotte. If Danks can't start the season I want Santiago in his place. I'm guessing Santiago will be in his place, but Santiago is not a guarantee to succeed either.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Yes please. Not as the base offense, but as an added package to get on film for opponents? Yeah that'd be pretty awesome. Trestman is thinking of everything, I like it. Cutler isn't Wilson or Griffin but he does have wheels, and if you leave an open lane for him he'll run off 20 yards before your defense can recover. He only has to do this 2-3 times per game for it to be effective. I guess it's not really known that Cutler has above average athleticism because Tice ran a remedial first-grade offense, and moving the QB wasn't an integral part of the Martzfense. Cutler's best when he's on the move and not stationary reading defenses. I don't remember the exact number, but his last year in Denver, his QB rating rolling out to his right was like 110 or 120. It may have just been outside the pocket in general. He doesn't like to sit behind his OLine and hit spots. He can do that, and he can put the ball where it needs to be, but scrambling opens plays up more often and his athleticism creates problems for defenses. On top of that, the second you get out of the pocket, there should never be any interceptions or sacks. I'm honestly kind of excited to watch the Bears next year. I don't remember many of the head coaches, but when was the last time they had an offensive guru as head coach (as opposed to just being a former tight end, like Ditka)?
  17. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 03:29 PM) Ugh. Come on already, end this experiment. It's a 6th or 7th starter, it's not a huge deal
  18. First and foremost, I strongly disagree that the game has gotten worse or diminished. I treasure the game more than ever because players are prejudiced much less based on body build and more by actual baseball skill. Second, the idea of building a team with an incredibly deep and strong bullpen has been around for a while. Specialization has changed it a little, but having a great bullpen to get to the end of games - yeah, 2002 Angels nailed that. Even with teams trading for prospects, Beane realizes that there is still value in trading players with service time. That's the market inefficiency he is taking advantage of now. Rather than hold players through their arbitration eligible years, deal them the year after they become eligible - you save money and you get better prospects. Yes, you take PR hits for dealing star players, but you continually restock your system and the number of options you have to fill out your roster continually expands and grows more talented, thus allowing you to add a rental piece here or there when/if necessary without any great cost. Tampa Bay does this flawlessly too, and, all things considered, they are probably the premier organization in all of baseball right now. The Royals haven't made the playoffs in like 27 years and they've only had like 2 or 3 winning seasons since that time, and it's because they are run so poorly. The trade for James Shields and Wade Davis this year is a perfect example of that. They gave up 4 very good prospects - one of whom is a top 5 prospect in the entire game, and arguably the best - for a very good starting pitcher and a mediocre starter or good reliever. They still aren't likely to win the division, nor will they be likely to next year, and suddenly that "best farm system in the history of the game" is all for naught. This is something I hope Hahn is able to do a little better than Williams. It's a more conservative path and requires a deeper and better minor league system. However, you can also restock the minor league system faster as well. Hopefully the Sox can continue stockpiling minor league power arms, and maybe in the near future they can deal Nate Jones and'/or Addison Reed. Honestly, there aren't a lot of pieces the Sox can deal right now, but in the next 3-5 years there could be. Stay patient and conservative and only make deals that make sense. Overpaying for players is working right into the hands of guys like Beane and Friedman and they will continue to make those deals 100% of the time, so you better be sure that, if you are overpaying for someone, it's not to compete for a division title but instead to win a goddamn World Series. If you overpay, that division better be gift-wrapped, ready for delivery.
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 7, 2013 -> 12:08 AM) I think he'll be like Clemens and RJ, throwing strong at 40. He's just got such an easy delivery. Someone will pay him 200 for sure and I'm with you, please let it be Detroit. I think he will too. He's a monster. Maybe a hiccup here or there, but he's just an absolute stud. Sure would be nice if they were paying him and the hungry hippos $75 million combined in about 2017 though.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 2h Other clubs say #Astros still telling teams they'll listen on anyone if they get 2 or more players back. Lots of scouts eyeing Lucas Harrell Two or more players? s***, Stefan Gartrell, Jeff Gray, and David Purcey for Harrell and Carter, ok? I'll post it
  21. I think dunking over someone is awesome no matter what. I mean, come on, you cant tell me you didn't watch it a couple different times. Just like you watched Kobe go over Dwight a few times. Watching sick dunks is sweet, no matter what is going on.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 20, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) And you would have everyone traded Ha, not quite, we'd still have Buehrle and Konerko
