QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) you should write your alumni a letter of outrage Shamrock Shakes are delicious, I would write them a letter of hunger and desire -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) I am sure the vastly superior Brian Cashman will fleece the Inept Hahn of the Pandoras box that is Brent Morel I'll give you Brent Morel for Chris Stewart, then you give me Chris Stewart for Jon Stewart, then Jon Stewart for Demetri Martin, then Demetri Martin for Carlos Mencia, then Carlos Mencia for a #9 from Taco Bell with a Diet Pepsi. Give me that #9.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) Speaking of third basemen, I wonder how Kevin Youk is doing this spring? Now that he is clean shaven in Yankee tradition, he looks ten years younger, but, more importantly, if he has a bad spring, the Yanks will be looking somewhere for a 3B. They will not take Morel over Youkilis.

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) 2005 post season (arguably ALCS and WS individually) MVP ... Wonder if he has any plans to coach one day? Ehh, I don't dispute Crede as the playoff MVP, but there was virtually no one who didn't contribute during the playoffs that year. It was an incredible team effort.

Sox trade RP Jeff Soptic for 3B Conor Gillaspie
witesoxfan replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Let's recap: -AJ's season wasn't an outlier because he hit 17 one time (8 years ago) -We should have brought him back because Cubs fans hate him (all baseball fans hate him) -Tyler Flowers is prone to weight gain because he is tall and big bodied, therefore he will suck (don't you guys remember Frank Thomas?! HE SUCKED BECAUSE HE GAINED WEIGHT!) -Josh Phegley needs to be considered an option with his career minor league OPS of .685 (DYN-O-MITE!) -We get to make up arbitrary numbers to defend ourselves (Flowers has 317 PAs and 107 K's; also 12 HR and 33 BB) -AJ is a clutch hitter (though no numbers are provided to back it up) -Tyler Flowers will never succeed in clutch situations because he is a girly man (nevermind that he hit a game winning homer last year) -Tyler Flowers is a GIDP machine (I'd prefer he be a love machine) -Hector Gimenez and Josh Phegley will destroy Flowers the Girly Man in Spring Training -We can now count stints of 20 PA and 15 PA as full seasons (Flowers the Girly Man is a 4 year vet now! PAY HIM) -Don't have to look through baseball history to see trends (though you can if you'd like) -AJ hit .300 15 years ago in 13 ABs, so he must be a .300 hitter (but he will never hit a home run) --------- I just facepalmed so hard I sniffed someone's butt in China -
WHY IS THIS TEAM WINNING IN SPRING TRAINING, SAVE THOSE WINS FOR THE REGULAR SEASON YOU IDIOTS! ------ WOOOO 3-0-2, HAVEN'T LOST YET, GREAT SIGNS FOR THE SEASON just covering both bases here

QUOTE (balfanman @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 04:37 PM) I don't know, but if there is a team desperate for a 3rd baseman they might do some stupid things. Like stated above, if the Sox are overwhelmed - as in a legitimate prospect for Morel - there's no reason to hang onto him. But they likely won't be and you'll end up with a very mediocre player in return.
-
If you trade Morel after or during spring training, you are going to get a player who is less valuable than Jeff Soptic.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) Morel looks pretty good. If he has a few weeks of good spring ball, teams will be calling. Unless the Sox are overwhelmed, there's absolutely no point to trade him.

If the example he cited occurred in the Majors, the game most closely resembling it was September 18, 2001. It wasn't quite a 9 run lead, but they scored 9 runs and did blow a 6 run lead. Between Knott's two seasons in the majors, there was only one other game that either of his teams lost where both teams scored 9 runs - the other was April 6, 2001. In that one, the DBacks went down early and fought their way back to make it somewhat interesting (though I doubt Knott was on the roster at that point anyways). Unless players were hanging around Byung-Hyun Kim after games, said player would "allegedly be" Bret Prinz. Whether it was the majors or minors changes everything, and the physical details describe Kim quite a bit better than they do Prinz. There are quite a few guys it could be too, hence the "allegedly."

I'd rather draft Geno/Barkley/Wilson/Nassib/McClendon and take a shot that I can develop them. Jonathan Baldwin is going to be his #1 receiver. I understand Smith as a placeholder for a year or two while letting those guys develop, but you are essentially stating that Alex Smith is the QB of the future in KC. That is just awful.
-
That is absurd. The absolute most I would have given up would have been one 3rd round pick, not two 2nd round picks

QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Yes, I acknowledged that Sizemore is not expected to be ready to play until around June. I also stated, in an earlier post, that since the Sox don't play the Tigers until just before the All Star break, they might be able to wait for him. The point of this latest post was to simply refer to the article which reaffirms the fact that the Sox still need another, middle of the order, left handed bat. When players are openly discussing it, it is at the least, a perceived short coming. They may qualify their remarks, and offer rationalizations, but it is obviously on their minds, and well it should be. The article states precisely what I have been arguing; That the Tigers, as well as the rest of the Central Division, have a lot of tough right handed pitchers. And if something becomes available and it makes sense, I'm sure the Sox will pursue it. In the mean time, sit back and relax.

If Tyler Flowers is Adam Dunn from the right side of the plate and he continues to play great defense, he's going to be one of the best catchers in the league. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) Very good chance that Danks's roster spot belongs to Gillaspie. Oh I'm aware, I'm just saying that I'd rather have Danks regardless of whether he's on the roster or not.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) Apparently, even a few of the Sox players are as concerned about the lack of left handed hitters on their roster, as some of us are: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws Sizemore could really help. Could really help. If he were to remain healthy. There are great odds that he would not. I'm content with Wise and Danks

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 04:34 PM) I dunno, blaming Loria for a loan of $80 billion that will eventually cost $1.2 billion seems like the wrong place...that's the kind of thing you blame the thieving loan originator and politicians (who were probably quasi-legally-bribed to get highly bank-favorable terms) for. That's a large portion of the debt itself, but without Loria being a dirty businessman running an incredibly unethical organization with very questionable morals, it doesn't happen. Loria and Samson are the main culprits here. -
