  1. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) He JUST moved to the U.S. like 2 months ago. It will take a certain number of regular AB's for him to adapt, then I think we'll see the production out of him. Honestly, I think that, since our offense has started to struggle somewhat, we should bite the bullet and put alexei (the long-term offensive threat) in at 2b regularly. get the US conversion thing out of the way and then see what he can do. judging from his swings last night, i think he can progress pretty well. he certainly has the bat speed. i don't think he's that far off from being able to fight off breaking pitches, either. i was opposed to pulling uribe previously but that was because we could eat his bat for a while. doesn't look like we can anymore. give alexei the starting job. If you wanted to get him used to the pitching in America, why wouldn't you have him spend some time in Charlotte? It's not like they seceded from the union within the past 100 years.
  2. QUOTE (AddisonStSox @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) Have you ever seen a guy "get hot" while sitting on the bench? If you have, let me know. You must play him in order for him to "get hot." Therein lies the problem. It's a shame Uribe's plus-arm can't hit above the mendoza line. To quote Mugatu, "I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!" He's 4 for 24 and has seen the most playing time out of any non-starter. He has yet to show that he can handle MLB pitching. So, to respond to your statement, he is getting playing time. Not as much as Uribe, but he's failed to grab the bull by the horn. Least we forget that Quentin started the year on the bench and hit his way into the starting lineup. The original starter, of course, was Alexei Ramirez. He's getting opportunities to get hot and is not taking them. That's on him.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) Wonder what Mario Manningham did to go from a projected late first rounder to late 3rd rounder. Bad timed speed, lied when interviewed, admitted to testing positive for marijuana in the past, and he got a 6 on the Wonderlic.
  4. agreed Badger...South Park hasn't fallen off at all
  5. ha, the #1 movie was never nominated as #1 by anyone
  6. Just curious, who would people prefer to have at $12 million, Joe Crede or Jermaine Dye? And furthermore, which contract would you find more favorable, the one that goes 2 years or the one that goes 4-5? I'm not going to say resigning Crede would be terrible, but I'll say that I'd strongly disagree with it.
  7. QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) What about Girardi's Moves? Why Do you pitch to Crede with 1 out, 1st base open and Ramirez coming to bat? The Runner at 1st is meaningless and could have set up a potential inning ending double play. Plus you get the bat out of Crede's hands and force a rookie to beat you. As bad as Ozzie may have been, Girardi's Bad Moves trump Ozzies. From everything I've gathered, Girardi outmanaged Ozzie in 26 of 27 innings over the 3 game set. The only one he didn't was the 9th inning last night, because letting Crede hit was absolutely moronic.
  8. QUOTE (AddisonStSox @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) ...taking Uribe out of the lineup would improve things some... Until Richar gets healthy or Alexei gets hot, not much can really be done about it. Uribe's offers very good defense, whereas Richar offers nothing while he's hurt and Alexei is offering no defense and no offense. Uribe is currently the club's best option at 2B because they have no one that can play a legitimate 2B. Perhaps Chris Getz could be given a shot, but that's about it, and I think he'd be a worse overall hitter than Owens was without the speed.
  9. QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 12:26 PM) either you forgot the green, or that is wrong. I believe he means that the Cubs franchise itself has never been below .500 ever at any point in time over the course of its history. Cubs franchise history...they f***ing dominated in the 1870s and 1880s.
  10. QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) Probably true, but even the Stones have done several farewell tours. Crede is reaching legendary status and may have a few years left in a whitesox uniform. Legendary? No, you have to grow a mustache to become legendary.
  11. I think much of the reason Blazing Saddles wasn't ranked higher is something SS2k got at...most people that didn't have it listed just haven't seen it. I have no other explanation quite frankly. Either that or Animal House are the funniest movies I've ever seen, but it's probably a coin flip. I haven't seen Young Frankenstein, so there's why I don't know that one. I'll have to check that out sometime.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 07:13 AM) Joe Crede will re-sign with the Chicago White Sox. I think it's clear that Kenny is planning for next season regarding this issue, and will move one of Konerko or Dye to DH, and have Fields play 1B or LF (with Quentin switching to RF). This would seem to make the most sense. Joe is obviously fully healthy and playing at an extremely high level, but I think the Sox will get an extension done last-second like they did with Buehrle. It would make a lot of sense to hold onto Joe and use Fields in another capacity... the Thome hole will be a HUGE one to fill next year, and Fields can help with that. Just my $.02. Jim Thome will fill the Thome hole next year.
  13. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Apr 25, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) can you make links green? I tried and failed miserably
  14. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) No one is clutch 100% of the time. I don't think anyone is more often the clutch hitter though. JOSE VALENTIN
  15. Why do people want to just throw Fields around the field so much? Let's have him play 1B, LF, RF, 2B...he's a 3Bman, he's not that good there yet, and he's not going anywhere. Let's bury this thought.
  16. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Ozzie did this a few years back with Garcia. It makes no sense. and now Garcia's shoulder is in shreds Not that the one night caused it, but it didn't help. This is dumb Ozzie...I was nodding off and then I realized that Floyd was back on the mound, and now I'm awake again.
  17. QUOTE (Linnwood @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) They ain't illegal LOL, whatevs...they are Cuban immigrants nonetheless
  18. QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) 10-13 all of a sudden. and 4th in the majors in runs scored You knew they'd start hitting eventually.
  19. QUOTE (heirdog @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 03:32 PM) Isn't Broadway known for his curveball? With Gio and his 12-6 gone, who has the best curve out of the Sox prospects? I always remember he was known as a lower velocity, plus curve pitcher coming out of college. He was the safe pick and Carillo was the one everyone was clamoring for. Well, Carillo started off well but I lost track of what he has done of late. He's recovering from Tommy John surgery. He hasn't made his season debut yet.
  20. Did he ask it to just leave the room before he killed it? Seriously, that's kinda weird. Glad to hear he managed just fine though.
  21. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 01:38 PM) I wonder how Franks feels about getting 2 to 3 games a week with Mike Sweeney as opposed to Matt Stairs? I'd say Mike Sweeney better get used to sitting down because Thomas is a better hitter and Oakland realizes it.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) Player A is Willie Harris and Player B is Jerry Owens You'd be correct. What's interesting is that Harris was versatile, seeing as how he could play 2B, emergency SS, and CF/LF, whereas Jerry's left-handedness prevents him from doing that, and the Sox cut bait with him pretty quickly. The one thing Jerry does much better is steal bases, but that alone shouldn't get you a spot in the starting lineup; quite honestly, that should be the last factor that gets you into the starting lineup. If Jerry can't prove that he's capable of putting up something like .300/.350/.350 (essentially Pods' numbers from 2005), he shouldn't be anywhere near the starting lineup.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Yeah, I'm not slamming Mussina over his career, he's been a very good pitcher, but those days are behind him, he has struggled this year He was quite terrible last season as well
