  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 03:03 PM) What about Fields at 2B? Maybe it is a crazy idea but the Rockies are attempting to convert Ian Stewart into a second basemen, Iwamura made the switch for the Rays, and Fields is a pretty good athlete. It solves a few problems at the same time, then if Crede walks at the end of the year you move him back in ST next season. Send Ramirez down to play everyday and work on his defense in the IF, use Uribe as a defensive super sub across the IF, and give Richar a lot of time to come back healthy. It'd take far too long to convert Fields to a 2Bman just to have him thrown back in the 3B fire next season. 2B is an entirely different point of view and completely different train of thought. No, it's just not logical to make such a move at this point.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) that's how I'm trying to sell it to myself, but yesterday was a bit of a gut punch game, I am really looking forward to see how they look tonight. Hughes and Mussina have been bad this year (although I believe Mussina pitched OK in his last outing). I don't want to hear how they magically "found it" against the Sox. Hawk would use the "You're not (insert # of games Mussina is over .500 here) games over .500 in your career for nothing" as the Sox are flailing away at pitches a foot out of the zone 104 games over That's pretty damn impressive actually
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 08:09 AM) I'd like make an honorable mention for my favorite, Icehouse! Yessir. It tastes like someone threw a bar of soap into a beer and said "here, it'll get you drunker 2 beers quicker!" F*** that. If I'm gonna go for s***ty beer, I'll select something without that s***ty of a taste. If I'm looking to get f***ed up, I'll get Steel Reserve or liquor.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) Keep in mind Carlos Quentin is still only 25 years old and has only ~450 career ABs. He's also sexier than Juan Uribe.
  5. QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) Because Quentin came up with one out. If you're overmatched, the number of outs shouldn't matter. It's probably better he struck out then grounded into a double play. And if you get a pitch to hit and miss, you should take blame too, no matter the number of outs. I'm not excusing Quentin, but he's also a younger player than Uribe, and he didn't get nearly the pitches Uribe apparently got to hit.
  6. These are two White Sox "prospects" previous numbers in Charlotte. Both account for about a full season. Player A - .297/.374/.443/.817 in 639 PAs Player B - .267/.347/.353/.700 in 760 PAs Both players have, at one time or another, led the White Sox in stolen bases. One of these players is in his 5th organization and is generally considered a pretty terrible player. The other is a player some people wanted playing CF for this team coming into the season. Guess who's who.
  7. He brought in Dusty Baker though. There's no worse sin in the game of baseball today, especially with as many good young arms as the Reds have.
  8. QUOTE (SoxWS05 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Uribe actually got a really good pitch to hit too. That pitch had double written all over it for anyone else. I think Quentin was way over matched and should be the one to blame for not coming up with more in that inning. JD also had a poor game at the plate. If Uribe got a pitch to hit and popped it up, but Quentin was overmatched, why on earth would you put more blame on Quentin more than Uribe?
  9. Stay away from his junk pitches and make him get his fastball up...his fastball is so mediocre nowadays that the Sox should be able to hit it all around the ballpark. If they swing at his junk out of the strike zone, they're probably going to lose. This would be a good day to hit the ball where it's pitched. Hit it everywhere, don't let Mussina get comfortable throwing to a certain spot, and don't let the defense get comfortable. Sox should win this game, but I wouldn't bet on anything.
  10. LOL, the NFL isn't allowing the Rams to negotiate with anybody.
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) how about a sig bet? or better yet, an avy bet? no, just a friendly wager. The odds are completely against me because Contreras is older, has deteriorating stuff, and is coming off of a year where he had a 5.57 ERA, whereas Garland is younger, has perfectly acceptable stuff, is coming off a pretty damn good year, and is in his contract year. Or I'll do a sig bet, but your sig will be considerably bigger than mine. As in mine will be like the size of your average avatar, and yours will be the size of an average signature.
  12. On E60, they just did some cover story on a dude who plays for the Dakota Wizards. They just so happen to play in Bismarck, North Dakota. That means I just got to see my home town on ESPN. That was kinda messed up. It is also true that one of the main things many people like to do late at night in Bismarck is go to Wal-Mart. It's pretty hopping Friday and Saturday at like 2-3 in the morning.
  13. QUOTE (Shadows @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) I don't know if hes going straight to LT or playing RT for the first year, either way, our offensive line went from pretty meh to one of the best in the league now.. Pending Long is as beastly as he was in college We'll see about that
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 11:30 AM) From the ESPN.com story Ricciardi said the Blue Jays offered Thomas "a lesser role playing two or three times a week," but weren't surprised the veteran slugger chose not to accept. 2-3 times a week could easily be for the whole year so as to not vest Thomas' option too. If he got 376 PAs this year - meaning 304 more - he could have had his option vest for next year at $10 mill. Thomas asked for his release because he wants his money both for this year and next, and the Blue Jays didn't want to pay next year but obviously were willing to this season. When he found out he would not get his money for next year essentially guaranteed, he wanted out so he could go make more money and get more playing time somewhere else. That seems logical to me.
  15. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 08:12 AM) In no way am I or did I compare Thome OR Crede to Uribe. I was, however, pointing out the sheer insanity I see posted once in a while around here. And I still think Uribes defense makes up for his underwhelming OBP/AVG, especially considering his power numbers/RBI's the last 4 consecutive years. I'm simply saying I can deal with it and I'd rather have Uribe than Iguchi. Whole-heartedly agree with the last sentence of this. I think Richar will be a better option in the long-run, and perhaps in the short-run as well, but for now, Uribe at 2B (or atleast Orlando Cabrera's prescence) is well worth it.
  16. QUOTE (striker62704 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) The Sox are winning right now with their 1-4 hitters hitting a combined .212. If they combine to finish the season with .280 averages then that means they'll combine to hit .289 for the rest of the season, which is pretty good. This doesn't even take into consideration RISP and OBP, which are more important that avg. I think the hitting is fine. I just hope the pitching and defense hold up. That's what will make or break us, not hitting. The 1-4 is getting on at a .355 clip too, despite hitting .212. I wouldn't worry too much about them getting up to .280, seeing as how only Thome's career average is at .280 or above (and it's right there at .281...Konerko's at .279). I'd worry much more about the combined average between the 4 of them being .260, because that means the slugging will be pretty damn good too then. If they hit .260 while maintaining just a 100 IsoOBP, I'd be more than happy (because I very strongly doubt they can maintain a 143 IsoOBP throughout the year, especially if they hit the combined .260 that they should hit)
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 22, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) meh I tried to put on my favorite jeans the other day but they had a huge hole in them I put my foot right through the hole and BAM now they are a goner
  18. But Will Smith doesn't swear in his songs
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) Contreras somehow having an ERA under 5 and us being able to unload him next offseason for something worth while would be a dream come true... however, I doubt Contreras keeps up his 4.3 ERA as he really doesn't have much left in the tank, if anything. As a friendly wager, I bet Contreras has an ERA below Garland's this season.
  20. QUOTE (Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 06:36 PM) 2006 was a great year, but my standard is Manny. Beltran makes Manny money and hits .270. He is good but not worth the money nor has he proven he is one of the top ten players in baseball based of performance in my opinion. At least not compared to the expectations after his half season with the Astros where he carried the team. can Manny play CF too? I mean, say what you want to say, but Torii Hunter didn't get $90 mill this offseason because of his bat - it was because of his all-around game. That's why the Mets gave Beltran his contract too. Beltran is good. He had a very mediocre 2005, but he has been pretty damn good and I'd say worthy of his contract the past 2 seasons.
  21. QUOTE (soxfn4life @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 06:41 PM) This is kind of a random question, but what happened to augustin montero? He signed a minor league contract with Oakland in the middle of last year, and that's about it.
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) You know, that is a great point, I forgot to include the anti-steroid crowd who will be voting for him. Actually that may put him in on the first ballot. Writers like sending a message. It would be truly incredible if, somehow, Griffey and Thomas were inducted into the Hall in the same year. If that happened, it would probably be the second happiest moment as a baseball fan.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) If Uribe hits his usual ~20HR, ~70RBI, ~55Runs, and plays the defense he will usually play...I'd be perfectly happy, and I wouldn't care what he eats or drinks, either. People are stuck on Uribe's avg...so what, he hardly gets on base and doesn't hit a lot, so let's ignore the fact he still puts up some *VERY* decent numbers and is a power threat at the NINTH spot in our order. Yea, let's get rid of that for someone that wouldn't even come close to that power production. Let's get rid of Crede while were at it...oh, and Thome, too. Sometimes you people drive me F-ING batty. Well now you're comparing Thome to Uribe; that's batty. Uribe will give you a good IsoSLG...that doesn't do much for me when he's getting on at a .280 clip and hitting .230. Sure, it has it's perks, but it's best saved for a superutility player. I think the best case scenario this team could see is Richar coming up and producing well (.750ish OPS would be good), Alexei being sent down and getting regular playing time, and Uribe being a very good backup infielder at 3B, 2B, and SS.
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 21, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) Perhaps he would have smiled more if he had a syringe in his butt. The NL wroters will have a hard time voting for a DH. The AL writers will have a hard time voting for a bad interview. Second or third ballot. So long as he gets in before guys like Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, et al (if they get in at all), it'll be justified.
