  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) Per roto Perhaps that's why he wasn't put on the 40 man. and now he's no longer ex-Sox worthy
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) True. With a rattlesnake, best to just run away and get some distance. It won't chase you. But I don't think he was being entirely serious, just trying to make a point. Right. I'm not very nature savvy, so if I got lost in the woods, I'd probably be screwed. Seriously though, it's one thing if you are going out into the wild and ending the lives of a mountain lion mother and her cubs illegally - that would deserve protest. It's also along the same lines if the animal were something smaller or less harmful, such as say a raccoon or, to some extent, a deer. It's entirely different if it's a full grown mountain lion within the city limits of one of the biggest metropolitan areas in the United States.
  3. Hindsight is 20/20; Thomas' stock was so low after 2005 that he had to accept a 1 year, $500K incentive based deal from Oakland just to get a shot at playing in the majors again. That was about his only offer, unless I missed something. Acquiring Thome was and still is the correct move.
  4. There are too many variables involved in knowing who exactly would take the place of an injured starter if that were to occur, but I really only see Broadway and Masset as options. Either or both could make starts, depending on if the pitcher had to go on the DL, when Masset was used last, when Broadway was used last, if the Sox can skip the spot, and probably as many other scenarios you think up.
  5. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) Good post. I'll just add that somehow for the first half of 2005 BA's defense singlehandedly made him a worthwhile player, even while having an OPS south of .700. And right, there is no question that Anderson is the better player now and has more upside. Owens is a career minor leaguer or 4th outfielder on a bad team sort of player. He's fast, but not very good at baseball. I agree completely. I've been preaching it for 5 months or so.
  6. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) Lets take a ride on the crazy train. Hi I am Joan Dahlberg, Humane Society President. And I have no concept of reality. While getting killed by a mountain lion is not a worry for most. To categorize these animals as anything but predators is a bit myopic and silly. This lady is a wack job. In fact Lions have been known to take a chomp out of a person or two. Prepared for any instance? What if there were 10 mountain lions? How can you prepare yourself for that? If there's a rattlesnake about to attack you...do you say "Please Mr. Rattlesnake, you'd never attack me, please go away back into the wild" or do you grab the nearest object and try to hit the SOB? I mean, it's absolutely ridiculous that people are upset that a mountain lion, with claws and teeth and probably a bit of hunger too, made it's way into a city where it could harm people, and police killed it.
  7. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 04:19 AM) I'm sitting here and a girls gone wild infomercial is on the tv, and the camera man told this girl that she was absolutely gorgeous. She didn't even say thank you. It bothered me. If you were high on ecstasy and drunk as s***, and I told you that you were gorgeous, would you say thank you?
  8. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) There was quite a discussion on boers and bernstein about the NL Central having the worst collection of defensive left fielders in the history of the game. Cincinatti- Adam Dunn Houston- Carlos Lee Cubs- Alfonso Soriano Pittsburgh- Jason Bay Milwaukee- Ryan Braun St Louis- Chris Duncan Other than Jason Bay, those are all converted infielders who really have no idea what is going on. Funny how they all ended up in the NL Central Atleast all the managers/GMs realize that LF is the least important spot defensively on the field, so they do what they can to get some offense there. It's not like starting Podsednik there for 3 straight years.
  9. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 09:05 AM) 9th inning, Sox down by one with 1 one out. Thome/Konerko/Dye/AJ/Crede/Hall/Uribe whomever singles or gets walked. Time for a pinch runner... I want Owens on this team as a 4th OF. Pinch hit Brian Anderson and watch him end the game
  10. I'm glad the Sox didn't trade for Griffey in 2005 because of what obviously transpired, but it would have been absolutely the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life just seeing Griffey and Thomas in the same dugout with the same uniforms on.
  11. I'm really excited to see what becomes of Broadway. In like his past 2 months pitching between the majors and minors, he's been a stud. I'm wondering if he can't turn into a John Maine type pitcher.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 10:57 PM) I'm pretty sure that's not a language I've ever seen. But just to be safe, I'll have one of what you're having. Oh that's easy to interpret. "You ever drink a Bailey's out of a shoe?" It's when people start going "hasdf JKSik hadhll hosssss mcuh to tdirjkj to inhghgt....................LIKE 1322234 KKKKKKKKKKKKKK SHOTSTS ZOMG!!!!!!!!!!1!!11111" that it begins to get difficult to understand.

  15. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) As sad as it is for the death of such a beautiful and majestic animal, its amazing the number of people that have decided to pick on the police for this one. A 150 pound predator, who is strong enough to chase a deer, knock it down, then to grab it by its neck and suffocate it thats the animal I may not want running through my backyard with my 3 year old. I wonder how upset the animal rights people would be when Mr. Cougar realizes that the deer population in Roscoe village isnt happening and decides to snack on the local dogs/cats/ and children. And as for the lady from the humane society who stated the police should of waited for animal control maybe she should realize that the cougar at Lincoln park zoo doesnt show off its speed like the trapped once in an alley. Cougars are in fact fast animals. Now maybe the South Dakota version of the big cat might respond to police commands, and may freeze with its paws up. But I think it might just decide to take off and leave the cops in the dust. The cops protected the public. Actually I'm pretty sure I talked to a cougar one Saturday night. He was talking about how the man was keeping him down and wouldn't let him be himself. I told him to just keep on attempting to liberate themselves for freedom. Maybe that was a bad idea?
  16. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) So far their top 3 is pretty damn good. The bullpen is still suspect. As long as Soria throws strikes they should be fine. Leo Nunez looks like a stud, Mahay has pitched pretty well in the past, and Gobble was pretty solid last year too. I also like Ramon Ramirez and Yasuhiko Yabuta was an offseason signing a few people on here wanted the Sox to make. I absolutely love that pitching staff. If they put up some runs, they'll be crazy scary.
  17. Per roto Perhaps that's why he wasn't put on the 40 man.
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 14, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) Swinging for the fences cost us the game tonight. The most noticeable cases were the last 2 AB's, with Quentin and Crede. Instead of just dropping the bat down and poking a hit into RF over the 1st or 2nd baseman's head, they were swinging for the fences. Both of them wanted to be heroes and hit 600 foot home runs. Now that I've thought about it, I'm also going to slightly disagree with this. The Sox had their fair share of hits in the game, but they let Smith work late into the game and then it got to the bullpen. Smith is a guy who walked 5 in his first start in 6 innings, yet he walked 1 in 7 against the Sox, and that was the Sox only walk of the game. That's not necessarily a good model for success, especially when you can scatter hits like the A's did throughout the game. The Sox getting picked off twice didn't help matters either. When the Sox walk, they get runners on base, they fatigue the pitcher on the mound, and they get to the bullpen early, and no manager wants to use their studs in the 5th or 6th innings, so it's going to be a pitcher who is either young, has a rubber arm, or is mediocre. You can then score runs all game off the starter and score runs off the middle relievers; if you get up 3, the other manager is less inclined to bring his studs in just in case he does get rocked, and then he doesn't have said pitcher rested for the next day and he's going to lose the game. It's pretty simple really. However, I say slightly disagree because it's pretty easy to try and overswing and hit his mediocre stuff out of the ballpark, and in doing so, you won't make him work deep into counts, and thus, he won't walk anyone. It's always been a fall of the White Sox - just throw some scrub who can't throw it 87 MPH and watch them flail at a meat fastball over the middle.
  19. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) Yep. They're basically a hybrid of the '05 and '06 teams. The pitching and hitting isn't as strong, respectively, but the combination of the two is probably good enough to take them to the playoffs. And the defense as currently aligned is also pretty damn good too. I'm hoping this team can go on a run and separate a bit from Cleveland and Detroit while they're scuffling/scuffled, because I still consider those two the teams to beat in the AL Central.
  20. I don't want to bust a nut just yet, but the Bills schedule looks very favorable; if they can put some things together defensively (and offensively for that matter) they have a shot at being pretty damn solid. Can't wait for the draft.
  21. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) I'm a big "crede is sick" supporter, he also is the sole reason for our theme song in 05 i believe, and won't stop believing. post script. sweet chambers pic c lee AJ and Rowand were getting hammered with him too though, and all 3 met Steve Perry after the game.
  22. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 05:24 PM) Don't forget...............you've been warned! Don't worry, I wasn't meaning to start anything...I was just honestly asking if I should stay out. I attempt to remain civilized in all these arguments, but I also think it's a bit premature to be thinking about extending an offer to stay for 3-4 more years to Joe Crede 3 weeks into the season when he's still coming off back surgery. That's all.
  23. I don't want to sound too ridiculous here, but I could honestly see these guys having the best pitching staff in the AL. Their rotation and bullpen are both really, really underrated.
  24. Let's see how the first rounders pitch. I'm quite interested.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) Our last time through the rotation, our starters have given up this many runs: 4 0 0 2 0 On top of that, 1 of Jose's runs was given up after he left and Logan came in. None have gone less than 6+ innings. I've said it several times in several places, and I like saying it...I feel really good about this team right now.
