  1. nice job blum! 3rd out!
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) PK could win a gold glove there too IMO. But I still would feel more comfortable with PK there. And I think the org feels the same way as I do. PK's decent. But not a gold glover. And I'll stand by both PK's and Ozzie's statements that Gload is better in the field than PK. I think the sox would like a better bat than Gload's, if Carl is out for awhile. But they'd be hard pressed to find a better glove.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) why oh why do we change pitcher so often? Ozzie's Taking a page out of Tony LaRussa's and Bobby Cox' book.

  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) I feel more comfortable with PK there. Sorry I dont care what they say, he makes every routine play and scoops everything. Even if the player himself says the other guy is the better fielder, not to mention the manager who says Gload could win a gold glove there?! I'm not dissing PK, who has improved a lot over the years. But Gload is the better fielder, no question
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) For all of you adults out there, would you be pissed if your child got a speeding ticket? Nah. You'd just have to pay all the expenses and extras [higher insurance costs, fines, court costs, etc] The second one and the hammer comes down [depending if you're 16, 17]
  7. A webgem by Iguchi. Very strong throw across his body ranging right up the middle
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) eh, im beginning to think PK is a better 1B than Gload.; WAsn't PK who said that GLoad could probably win a gold glove at 1b? I know Ozzie did. And I know he said Ross was a better fielder than himself
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) They may not want to do it, but if Everett gets hurt they might decide that's their best option. Who else do we have that they could call up if Everett truly is down? Borchard? Gload. Put PK at DH, GLoad at 1B.
  10. the replay just showed CArl grabbing his right groin after getting in a rundown, grimacing in pain
  11. ya gotta love politte
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Waivers should be a three day process. I remember hearing on the radio that it's 3 business days. I think the first day was last Thursday that players were put on waivers and then Friday, so guys would have cleared tues. and today.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) I almost think I'd agree with you...except there's just something scary about going into Yankee Stadium in October...having to face a guy like Jeter, and then having Rivera sitting out in that bullpen. That lineup is still pretty damn fearsome...#2 in MLB in runs scored, only a couple behind the red sox, and given that they had an anemic Giambi for about 2 months, they're only getting better. All that said...pitching wins championships, and they Yankees don't have it. The Angels do. We do. That makes the Angels a much tougher opponent in the postseason. End of story. Pitching and defense. The yanks have neither.
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Exactly. The owner's decision. The owner is afraid of bad PR which is stupid considering that most Red fans know they have to part with Ken Griffey Jr. to get better. They also know they must get rid of Sean Casey. Their owner won't do it though in fear of public backlash. If you read the Reds' messageboards you can't pretty much see their owner isn't socializing with their fans enough because they want Griffey gone so they could spend on players. If they owner didn't do it the first time, I doubt he does it the 2nd time around. When I think Reds owner, I'm thinking crazy old impulsive rich man who doesn't really know his baseball team. If a guy is so out of touch with reality that he still thinks Griffey Jr is a PR bonus, he could change his mind very easily. It may be a matter of the GM taking the owner out for drinks in order to grease Jr's way out of town.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) The Angels just finished up a road trip where they went 1-5 against the East, although they're now playing Baltimore, which should help them wake up. Their offense has been anemic lately, their bullpen is absolutely exhausted, and their defense let them down several times against the Yankees. Anaheim is only 4 games up on the Yankees in the Wild Card race right now. Don't just concede that to the AL West with Oakland's hot streak. One of those random "hot bat" surges from the Yankees could easily pull them even with Anaheim or Oakland if they ever cool off. I'd like the Yanks to overtake LAA. With the pitching woes of the Yanks [near the bottom of the AL in both SP and bullpen], that lineup isn't nearly has fearsome as in years past. I think a team like LAA would give the sox a harder time than the Yanks or Boston
  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) As much as I hate you for killing my dreams of Ken Griffey Jr in a White Sox jersey, thanks for bringing in common sense. I know he won't be here anytime soon. One thing to consider, the Reds owner isn't the baseball man. His Gm is, and seeing how a deal was in place, it's not beyond reason something could still work out. If their GM could convince him to trade Griffey [which hasn't exactly been a PR bonanza,] and now when he's finally healthy, trading him somehwere to DH makes sense, it may be the only chance to get rid of his contract. The GM wants to trade KGJ, because then it frees up money to spend elsewhere. But it's the owner's decision
  17. QUOTE(Bighurt52235 @ Aug 3, 2005 -> 02:50 AM) The wierdest f***ing thing in the world tonight... I was kind of disappointed in the Twins losing tonight. How f***ed up. In reality, I think we'll be better off with the A's winning the division. I'd much rather face the Yanks, Red Sox, or Angels in the first round. well said. If the A's stay hot, the sox keep the best record in the AL, the A's will overtake the LAA and the sox will play the wildcard
  18. I read through 10 pages but didn't see this bit of news: the sox minor leaguers traded via waivers can't be on the 40 man roster correct? Here is the sox 40 man roster: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...an.jsp?c_id=cws Chris Young wouldn't be subjected to waivers and could be dealt. Rogowski could and would be claimed If Cincy's owner relents, the sox would be the only teamto make a claim. But that's a big if, the owner "sees" the light.
  19. OF Chris Young and 1B Rogowski were the centerpieces, along with a fringe prospect [so sayeth Nightengale]. Aren't both on the 40 man, and would have to pass through waivers? [--which they wouldn't]

I'm sure Freddy could give Ozzie and KW a very good scouting report on him as well. Might be worth a shot for next yr
  21. I read somewhere that the sox were exploring a trade for Dmitri Young before the deadline. Looking at his career numbers, he's done very, very well vs possible playoff opponents like LAA, Minn, Bos. Oak and NYY. With his being a FA at the end of the yr, and making $8 mill, he could get through to the sox
  22. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) I can't find it, or rather, I gave up searching after 15 minutes, but I made this comparison after Neal's terrible season last year. The stuff was there. You could see it. The minor league numbers were there. You could see it. It was only a matter of time. Neal's certainly got his act together. He now trusts his stuff, and knows he can get guys out with his FB. His cutter certainly keeps guys off balance
  23. Watching BJ Ryan of the O's throw today, and sox hitters unable to hit FB's down the middle, looked a lot like Neal Cotts out there. The way Ryan short arms it, and hides the ball well, seems to be the key to Neal's success. I know some sox staff has mentioned Neal in the closer's role down the line. With his ability to get K's, and limit the walks, it might not be that far off. Ryan had some control issues early on in his career. And then the last few yrs has limited his walks and upped his K/ 9 rate. Let's hope Neal stays fresh, healthy and keeps it up all yr
  24. One thing Oakland does very well is make pitchers work. I think all 4 guys who walked yesterday scored. They'd be a tough team they way they're playing, getting solid pitching, timely, patient hitting, and decent defense
  25. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) Considering we're the best team in baseball and nobody else has improved themselves at all, it's definitely not a terrible thing. Very well said. No big moves = status quo
