Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox
beck72 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) Is Xander Bogaerts just out of the question completely? It's because of Bogaerts that Cecchini is even being mentioned as available, because he could play at either SS or 3b. So no. -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) God I hope Cecchini happens I'm with you. Cecchini's avg. and on base skills would be something the Sox haven't had in years. (At least on paper) -
Sox turn down trade offer for Alexei from Cardinals

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) You don't have to sign a shortstop. I would be OK with trading Quintana or Santiago for a great shortstop prospect, and that is one of only areas I'm ok with dealing either one of those two. after all this deadline silliness is over, the sox, even with a few very good additions, will still have big holes to fill. I'm all on board for trading Santiago in the offseason-whether it's SS, or elsewhere-to help net a position player or two. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) Basically, Alexei is right at the top of the list of "guys who, if we trade, makes it inevitable that 2014 is a rebuilding season". He's about the most difficult guy on our roster to replace next year. That means the price for Alexei should be high, with enough return to warrant "Throwing in the towel for next year despite a solid pitching staff". i dont think the Sox are throwing in the towel for 2014. that's why unless the sox get a replacement SS who can start next year, or are completely blown away by an offer for Alexei, I don't see him being traded. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) I could care less about finding a replacement shortstop. They have 6 and a half months to find a new shortstop. If this rumor is true, they may not feel good about his prospects of starting long term. If this rumor is false, then maybe his name came up but there was no agreement based on other information that was spilled. Now, if this is false, and Martinez's name was never brought up - and this is my personal belief - then it's possible the Sox are in the process of weeding out guys from within that are leaking info to those in the media. Have you seen the list of 2014 SS free agents?! You don't want to go into the offseason trying to get one of these castoffs. Or the sox would have to trade one of their current SP's for a SS. The sox would be far better served keeping Alexei than hoping to find a SS to replace him. -

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) One thing I would like to happen before we deal Ramirez is trading for his replacement. My #1 acquisition request would be to acquire Chris Owings from AZ. He is ready to contribute immediately on any big league roster. I really hope Hahn feels the same way. From what I hear, the DBacks would love to bring in Peavy. Not only to compete this year, but next year as well. Once a trade for Peavy goes down and we have our Ramirez replacement, I say make a counter offer to St. LOUIS. I would ask for Michael Wacha in exchange for Ramirez and Lindstrom. Michael Wacha us sniffing the majors and can replace Peavys spot in the rotation for now. Exactly. if the sox don't have a replacement for Alexei, they don't need to trade him. I could see many scenarios where Alexei stays. I don't think the sox are comfortable with Gordon at SS. Yet I do think the sox could get good value for Alexei with the pirates and cards in need of an upgrade. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Bucket said that things should happen soon, and that closer something gets, he can't say anything. This makes me think I don't think Peavy pitches tomorrow for the White Sox You could be right. Teams know what they're getting with Peavy. His arm isn't the issue. Just getting his wind back, sharpening, locating his stuff. As long as teams look at his medicals, and they show he's (hopefully) healthy, he could go before tomorrow. Boston might feel confident jakes healthy, and take the risk. The risk also exists for them that if jake throws well, the price may go up from others teams seeing him as less of a risk. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) It frees up 45 million dollars to spend elsewhere, which anyone should want over the risk of seeing if John Danks can ever be decent again. No team would take Danks, even if you wanted to dump him-which I don't. But he's shown flashes of returning to form. If he keeps like he has the rest of 2013, there's no reason he can't return to his "old" self. The key is how to best fix the roster, without gutting key pieces. Quintana has shown he's the real deal. These deadlines deals won't do it by themselves. IMO, Santiago could bring back the piece (s) to finish the rebuild, retool, whatever. Danks rebounding next year could make him the Peavy of this deadline.

QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) I think Hahn has effectively started a bidding war between the Cardinals and Red Sox. Which the sox have never played a part. We've always been the team that overlays for players at the deadline, not the sellers. Hence, you have a lot of skeptical Sox fans around here who don't think the returns will be that much for the top available SP. Another strong outing from Peavy and that should alleviate all reservations. any team in need of SP should want a guy like Peavy in their rotation in a pennant race-more so than Garza. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) Other than walks, Santiago has been better than Danks across the board. He's cheaper, younger, and healthier. I'd rather the Sox keep him over Danks. Having the 3 lefties in your rotation as Sale, Q, and Santiago looks amazing for the next five years. Then throw in Johnson, even better. If the Sox can get a high upside RHP starter prospect...then you have a cheap, young rotation with a legitimate ace headlining it. Danks has no trade value. Yet he is a great bet to return to his prior form, next year, Which is a higher upside than Santiago. Santiago has far more trade value than Danks. Even after this deadline, and the sox manage good returns from Peavy, et al, the sox offense will still need to improve to contend in 2014-which the sox probably can with the right moves. A Santiago trade could net the pieces to make that possible, without killing the SP. Dumping Danks at his all time lowest value makes no sense, unless the sox just want to cut costs.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) I honestly think Danks, Dunn, and Keppinger are all gone this offseason. Power has become a premium once again and Dunn will only have one year. A rebuilding team has no need for a utility player like Kepp, but a contender might. Danks will be a pitcher entering his prime that might catch the eye of a contender. I want Danks to be replaced by a high upside RHP prospect that we hopefully get through trade. I just don't like four lefties. I'm thinking the sox trade Santiago in the offseason for a key position player (s), that can start in 2014. Danks isn't a guy to dump, especially if Peavy is gone. He'll rebound. The sox 1-3 of Sale, Quintana and Danks still looks nice. Santiago should have great value and return a key guy to build around.

QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) The key word at MLBTR is "involving". The White Sox turned down a trade "involving" Ramirez and Martinez. I feel very confident that te Cardinals wanted Ramirez and Peavy and offered Martinez among others. I can definitely see something that having gone down, with Peavy also included. The key to any Peavy deal is a top position player prospect. -

If Jake to the Red Sox has legs, then either Jackie Bradley or Cecchini should be involved. If you get one of those two, the rest of the package are details. Important details nonetheless. But if the headliner is agreed to, then the filler is also something that can be worked out. I can easily see a deal with Boston come soon after Thurs. if Peavy has another strong outing. -
Sox turn down trade offer for Alexei from Cardinals
beck72 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There's probably more to this and don't have an immediate positive or negative reaction. Still, Alexei is one of the hardest players to replace. ESP. If the sox believe they can compete in2014. I'd expect Alexei to be one of the last players traded, not one of the first, after we see what prospects the sox get for Peavy, Crain, Lindstrom, Rios, De Aza. Maybe they'd trade Alexei if the sox acquired a replacement for him. Or Pitt already had a better offer on the table. Too many unknowns. -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 12:34 AM) Make Detroit really really desperate. I can see them wanting Crain more than anyone else we have. Set up and possibly could close.

Supposedly, the Red Sox, Detroit, and the Dodgers were also looking at K Rod.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heym...l-peavy-suitors Not unexpected that Heyman says Red Sox and Cards emerging as top suitors of Peavy possibly with Az in the mix. That's all we've been talking about here. Peavy and Alexei makes so much sense to the Cards its scary . I hope both AZ and Boston fall in love with Peavy, more so than STL, as I like their position player prospects more. Rather than a blockbuster with one team, I'd like the deals spread out to multiple teams. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) Both players are 24 and in AAA. .288/.369/.487/.855, 16 homers .318/.359/.567/.926, 18 homers The top is Andy Wilkins. The bottom is Terdoslavich. They do not appear to be similar players - Terdoslavich being a more aggressive, stronger hitter, while Wilkins is more patient and can work a count - but I don't see enough difference in potential value to make that a worthwhile trade. I understand it's all speculation for the sake of conversation, just putting in my two cents. I was just trying to see who might make sense. No one in the Braves system jumps out at me. Other than the few bats like Terdoslavich and Cunningham, and they ain't much, granted, the minor league arms don't seem like a lot of upside.
-
If the sox are talking with the Braves, a major league ready bat who could make sense is Joey Terdoslavich. Hes blocked at 1b by Freeman. They dont have that many other bats in the minors that seem to make sense. OF Todd Cunningham may be another. Not saying I approve of this. But if the two teams are talking, guys the sox minor league teams have seen play could be possibilities.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) CJ Edwards would have been either our 1st or 2nd best pitching prospect I'm just saying that the sox need to get a top position player back in a deal for Peavy. Olt wouldn't have been my choice. So there are many other teams that fit besides Texas. Sardinas wouldn't have headlined a deal-much like Edwards, a good 2nd prospect. FWIW, I'd like the sox to be able to get Sardinas sometime soon, without a Peavy deal. -

Even With Texas off, the only guy who made sense was SS Sardinas. The sox could easily hold onto Alexei and deal Peavy for an OFer or 3b. And fill out other spots with Crain, Rios, et all. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) At the very least, it's closer right now than I'd like for it to be for Middlebrooks to be the main return on Crain. I'd like a better 3b prospect than either Middlebrooks or Gillaspie this deadline. Yet there are always guys each offseason who could be had that rebound. Middlebrooks isn't as bad as this years numbers. With Peavy, and a healthy Crain, the sox shouldn't accept rebound candidates. They should get guys having good years.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 07:02 PM) One legit question with Middlebrooks is...is his upside significantly greater than Gillaspie? I don't know their histories that well but a moment at the B-R page didn't convince me he obviously was better than Connor. Their minor league careers show similar overall OPS numbers, Gillaspie with higher batting average and more walks, less home runs but many fewer strikeouts. About the only thing that obviously stands out is that he seems to have been a year younger than Conor at every level, which I'll grant does say something, but I'm not very much convinced. Can someone tell me where I should be looking to be convinced that Middlebrooks is head and shoulders above Conor? Conor has finally had his chance at playing everyday in the bigs and hasn't had the success Middlebrooks had last year.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 05:50 PM) Jon Heyman pointed this out this morning on Mully & Hanley, but not only is Peavy more than rental, he would also likely bring back a compensation pick after the 2014 season. All things considered, Peavy should be the most valuable player on the market. If Hahn plays his cards right, hopefully he can land at least two legit prospects (top 100 status) and a couple A ball wild cards. That rumored Garza package should be the starting point in any Peavy discussions. Which is why a team like SF is supposedly not in the running for peavy, as they don't have the minimum young talent it'll take to acquire him.
