  1. More along the lines of Sam-Me's absence... anyone else following his potential for "leg injuries?" Excuse me, but can't you ride a stationary bike (even with no resistance) with an incapacitated toe? What's this about his "honeymoon" with his wife? I don't know about any of you guys... but (as an NCAA athlete) when I'm injured, I do ANYTHING I can to try to maintain any skill I can... for example... I couldn't do so much as rub one out without getting a headache this past winter because of a concussion that kept me out of hockey for 2 months... but I'd do little things like juggle or something along those lines to keep up at least my hand-eye coordination so that I wouldn't have as much trouble returning from the injury. Sure, I'd have more time because I couldn't go to practices or anything like that, but I wouldn't be bragging about it, spending more time with my girlfriend and saying "I'm on a honeymoon." The only crap I'd be talking about would be getting back in the game, and that's as a D-3 student athlete (where sports isn't the only thing I have to worry about). Then here's Sam-Me, out for 2 weeks with a toe injury (I won't comment on the injury itself....) calling it a "honeymoon" and acting offended when the team wins without him. I'm sorry for rambling and ranting, but that kind of s*** offends me as an athlete who will never make it that far. If you have that much f***ing talent (debate all you want, but he IS in the big leagues), don't piss it away. This is probably the only subject that'll ever get me this pissed.
  2. I'm not comparing him to CLee... just saying he's a good defensive OFer to sorta counter-act the notion that he's a "hole in the lineup"
  3. I agree... Matsui is a good defensive LFer... if you look at how quickly he releases the ball after he catches it... on his first step after the catch it's out of his hand already. Great fundamental player with a good eye and pop in his bat... watched him for 2 years in Japan when he first came up, and he's only grown as a ballplayer since then. He'll be fine.
  4. Not to mention for 2 more years after this one.
  5. JohnJeter had a nice little top of the lineup set (on the WXing board) for GIDPaul Konerko to turn triple plays regularly... don't know if he'd care to post it again.

Yes, well an ERA of 9 (with no one particularly unusually bad outing) in late May isn't exactly lights-out... I admit he COULD turn it around, but... given that St. Louis (a normally excellent judge on pitching talent) let him go after that stint he had with 'em last year,....

I think Koch will end up fine. Now that his mechanics are back to normal (from what he says) his fastball won't just be gopher batting practice balls over the heart of the plate.
  8. I agree 100% there. The best player on the team shouldn't necessarily be counted on as a leader in any sport. It helps, but it's definitely not required.

I wouldn't go comparing Biddle to Smoltz just yet by any stretch of the imagination. I still think it was a damn good trade and that I'd rather have Colon than Biddle, Liefer, and Osuna. Biddle was good, but just didn't fit into the plans here. Osuna was a short reliever/setup man... those are almost a dime a dozen it seems. Liefer... well... is Liefer. Getting a #1 stud like Colon (and a damn good workhorse who will put his team ahead of himself... ask Jerry Hairston) for 2 expendable guys and one guy that wouldn't have been able to do much with the team is good, IMO.
  10. I'd personally like to hear Fisk's story. He was there through the transition period (at least what I think was the transition) from the "old" school game to the "new" school... he was there for the end of the "good ol days," as greg put it...
  11. Against Detroit.... don't think it counts....
  12. I'm not sold on Borchard yet... hope he proves me wrong though.
  13. Ay.... sadly, I've fallen off the wagon and come over here also... thanks to all the guys here in advance for letting me peruse through here for the time being.
