Why would you need more than 1 bat to be corked? If that bat breaks, you're screwed anyway. You won't get a chance to use the other corked ones.
-
I guess we will disagree.
-
I think, more than Paulie, the man who continually pencils him in at #5 in the lineup despite a sub-.200 batting average should be canned.
-
fire the team and keep jm..... its not his fault that we have lazy, good for nothings who are so self centered ...........get rid of them all and bring up the trip a team..... at least they will play with heart and desire......probably a lot more interesting to watch too......... :fyou this team............the whole selfish bunch of them......... I have to disagree there... the team's showed a willingness to work before. When THIS many players are underachieving, I don't care if they're paid minimum wage or ARod-type salary, it's the leader's fault. The leader in this case is JM.

I agree with that only if they're AAA guys like Miles and the likes so you won't piss away options just for fun.
-
Amen to that. Canseco's full of s***.
-
My understanding is that they caught Daubach b/w 2B and 3B, and then caught DJ trying to stretch it to 2B. A typical Soxish way to end a rally... not one but two baserunning gaffes.

Gar has an option? If so, how many more?
-
Well I'd consider taking a college pitcher with a high ERA (and who couldn't crack his college rotation, IIRC) and turning him into a big leaguer successfully developing a pitcher... As for Garland, trade him. How many 23-year-olds are there with over 400 career IP? He's a very tradable pitcher right now (a GM's dream right now).
-
well, "kid" would probably be more appropriate because of my age (18)
-
Couldn't agree with you more, YASNY.
-
And Konerko regularly hits.... where in the lineup this late in the season??

Listening to Jack McDowell's sound bit on Yahoo! sports... responding to Sosa's excuse of showing off during BP: "If I'm in an 0-for-14 slump or whatever he was in, I'm not out there trying to show off during batting practice. I'm working hard out there trying to correct my swing." So not only is he showing off for the "fans," but he's also sacrificing his own practice time to do it.
-
Yeah, but consider the alternative (Karchner)... at least we can get something for "this stiff" still....

http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,59113,00.html That guy said it. Well let me get all physicsy on you guys... in a collision, the change in velocity of each object is determined by the sum of momenta... so (taking into account the direction of the velocity of each object) the ball's speed (and thus distance) coming off of the bat is determined by a product of the bat speed and the bat's mass. If the increase in bat speed is enough to offset the decrease in mass and actually increase momentum, all "energy transfer" factors within the bat aside, then the ball actually will travel farther. Now these physics professors probably know a bit more than a 2nd-year engineering student, but I actually want to see results of these tests and interpret them myself, because I know they have done tests on them....

The thing that's sending everyone in a frenzy is that he was recently found to be baseball's #1 most marketable player, as many of you probably have heard at least rumors of. The fact that baseball's #1 most marketable player is a "cheater" makes headlines like none other for papers looking to sell more copies and for networks like ESPN looking for more ratings. It's a combination of the times we're in (in terms of media coverage) and the person it happened to that's exploding in Scam-me's face.

I agree. No way Bud's gonna let a Clemens-Wood matchup go Sammyless.

Sammy is 2nd in the NL OF balloting. Vlad is 120,000 votes behind and Pujols is 125,000 votes behind. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb...r2003&fext=.jsp Another case in point of why fans shouldn't be able to vote for All-Star starters. ShamME couldn't wipe Vlad's or Albert's ass this year. Yet stupid f***ing casual baseball fans vote, mostly, purely on name recognition alone. If you put McGuire's name on the '04 ballot as a joke, he probably be voted a f***ing starter at 1B..... most casual baseball fans probably don't know that he has retired. If more of the "real" fans voted, maybe this problem wouldn't exist. I say the people directly involved in the game (players, managers, coaches) should vote, but that's just me....
-
Well it is the biggest story in baseball right now, and just because we're across town from where it happened, I don't think we shouldn't be allowed to talk about it, especially since the national sports media has covered nothing but this story since it happened.
-
MSF... on top of the minor league reports as always.
-
Wouldn't you want to "practice" under somewhat normal game conditions, anyway? So by using a lighter corked bat in BP and then switching to a heavier bat duing a game... wouldn't that throw you off a bit?
-
I'm just saying somewhere, some "know-it-all" righteous columnist will try to stir something racial out of it to try to stir some sort of controversy... because, well, about the only "controversy" we haven't seen out of the Sox from the papers is a racial case....
-
That's a bulls*** comment. Are you Mike North in disguise? I'm not saying there SHOULD be something racial coming out of it, but, knowing the way things are in society, SOMEBODY will write SOME article about how it was race-driven unless they run the team deeper into the ground than they already have.

This is the line that caught my attention: Sammy Sosa uses a corked bat? Against the Devil Rays?
