I get the sick feeling in my stomach this will be as much of a debacle for Chicago when the Cubs wouldn't give Greg Maddux 2 more million or whatever it was way back when and they lost him for the prime of his career. The way Mark can throw I would not be surprised if he is around for a long time. If Zito can get $126 million, I would guess Buehrle should be able to get close to $100 million guaranteed on the open market. I still cannot believe he'd agree to this deal as it's an incredible buy but if I am KW I'd accept this deal even if there was a Buehrle gets to sleep with Kenny's wife clause...

White Sox vs. Devil Rays, 6/28/07 (W)

QUOTE(Balance @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) Javy takes the bump against the fearsome Scott Kazmir. Go get 'em, Sox! I'm still sticking by my prediction that we will run the table to finish 44-42 at the break. Go Sox! -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 08:22 AM) Farmer said that Buehrle wants 14 million a year.....I'm 100 pct sure that's the number he stated. Friday deadline, here we come. If I didn't know better, I might think that this is a ploy by the Sox to make it look like they tried their best to re-sign him, but that they just couldn't agree on the numbers. If he doesn't re-sign, we'll probably see him traded before he can start next week at the Cell. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...-ssep28.article The question remains- when Buehrle can get a Zito like 100+ million deal why would he settle for $50 million? Especially when you consider taxes are going to get out of control when the Socialist Hillary is elected... If he elects to give the Sox a break he'll sign for 4yrs/$60million with an option for a 5th year. And if I'm the Sox I jump all over that deal. I still don't buy the fact we cannot increase our payroll either moving forward. The team just needs to get more creative about bringing in revenues to keep the guys we have that are worthy of keeping- like MB.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 08:24 PM) I would assume its past time to give KW false hope right? Assuming they get tonights game and we run the table to the allstar break, we come in at 44-42. Still only good for fourth place probably! That should be enough for them to consider this season over. It's too bad but just reality I guess. I don't want to give up either but I am not sure how we could ever dig ourselves out of this hole we've created for ourselves, it would have to be as probable as the Red Sox comeback from being down 0-3 to the Yanks. Probably even worse % chance for us to make the postseason than what they did that year. Wait till next yr I guess, I just hope we can somehow keep Buerhle on the squad. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) Yeah, this. I hope they keep Singleton around, I like how he doesn't seem to take the game too seriously and brings a bit of very odd humor to the booth unlike Farmer who comes off as an arrogant ass. I've said it before and I'll say it again, a Darrin Jackson/Chris Singleton booth would be the most entertaining announcing team in baseball. I hope you're kidding. Singleton is a talentless clown with absolutely no personality whatsoever and who would you have doing the play by play with this group?

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) I don't want to sound like an asshole but I don't care what anyone says about how someone "looks," be it Kenny Williams or Jason Gage or Rosie O'Donnell. Anybody with that WHIP in the International League coupled with the track record Floyd's got has absolutely no short-term future in the American League and they probably have no long-term future in baseball. Gavin Floyd is a bust. I can't argue with you there although he does have great stuff. Of course, it doesn't matter if you cannot find the plate. My biggest issue with Floyd is the character. He's got NO balls! Have you ever seen an interview with the guy? Way too timid- "nice" guy if you will- no heart. You wonder if KW ever looked at that before giving away Garcia for a cupcake. I want a guy in there who wants to rip your heart out standing on the mound. I never got even a HAIR of a feeling like that from Floyd...I dont think he wants it enough.

Crede Out Again, Possible DL Trip (per Score)
JohnCangelosi replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) On a related thought, putting Crede on the DL makes him literally impossible to trade. Too bad all around. At least one of our top position prospects in the system (one of the few) plays 3rd. I say bring up Fields now... -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 04:57 PM) The claim regarding post counts is NOT that more posts = more credibility, as everyone seems to be taking it. It's this -- if you're gonna call out people and talk s*** about being wrong in the past, you DAMN WELL better have been mostly right, yourself. JC wasn't railing against people questioning the starters in spring training, and he has such a short track record (read: such a small post count) that noone knows what he was thinking. I find one post basically saying 'Wait and see' on Buehrle, and one post that was completely wishy-washy about Danks. That's not someone who has any right to start a crow-eating thread. The only consistent, strong opinion I can find is that he thought the Tigers would suck badly. I think you guys misunderstood the point of the post. Surely, I am a "half glass full" type of guy by nature, and for lack of a better term, a homer. For the record, I NEVER gave up on Buerhle like some of the half glass empty crew did. And honestly, shame on you- here's a guy who has been probably the most consistent starter in a White Sox uniform for a 5-6 yr stretch I've seen since 1985. For anyone else, I can understand the concerns and talk surrounding his second half effort last year. I don't disagree that we've played terrible this year and that I misjudged this teams potential both in the pen and offensively. And I am not here telling people I know it all either, quite the contrary. I just thought it was an interesting point to bring up, that indeed, the one thing that stuck out to me about this forum before the first pitch was thrown (and consequently hit out of the park LOL) was the fact that our SP was done. And in fact, that has been the only reason we're one win from being .500 Ironic, that's all. I will continue to make posts and have my opinions that will be wrong, such as my Tigers prediction. However, remember, there is still plenty of ball to play!

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 03:10 PM) Why do you give a crap about what this guy thinks, especially when he throws out a statement aimed at nobody in particular and doesn't cite any posts to back it up? Instead of going apes*** and throwing out your "Soxtalk Cred", ask the joker to back up his statements. Joker? How about a little respect for a guy who was having my way with beautiful women while you were still in diapers? ;-) Guys, I am sorry but I don't have time to go dig up ST posts, and secondly, I wasn't looking at starting a big altercation here but I think it would be safe to say that this board was pretty down on the SP in ST more than ANY other aspect of the team. Sure, I agree there was contempt for Pods and the CF situation but I would say any reasonable person would state that SP was the "haters" biggest rallycry coming into the season. Would anyone who has been following the board disagree? I mean, afterall it's just my perception- I wasn't keeping score on the amount of posts going back and forth in ST... However, for me, that was literally ALL I was hearing in the forum, and since I just joined at that time it really stuck with me what the board (in general) thought of our SP when me, perhaps being a bit of a homer, thought our SP was pretty solid coming into the season minus the question mark in the 5 spot. I thought we had a 95 win caliber team because I figured the offense was going to show up like they have in previous years... I wasn't calling anyone out in the forum specifically, either. Perhaps the haters a bit, since they are so quick to think they have all the right ideas, but just tossing it out there, to be honest. It's just a little ironic, I would say, that the haters rallycry in ST has been the strongest part of the club, and I am just reminding them of that!! :-)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 01:52 PM) I truly love how you speak in generalities. You have what? 100 posts? Who the f*** are you to talk, seriously? I honestly have no clue what your feeling on the team were coming into the season, maybe you can give me a little evidence as to how you are the righteous one here and how everyone else is a hypocrite. I really have no idea why I should take anything you've posted here with any more than a grain of salt. Next time you decide to start calling out an entire group of people, you should first build up a bit of credibility and a reputation in that community. When did I say I was righteous? I certainly didn't b**** about the SP in ST. I believed Buerhle was going to have a good year but had no reason to believe it outside of the fact I don't base opinions based on 3 months of baseball. Remember Clemens was kicked out of Boston by hypersensitive people like yourself saying he was done. How wrong they were! Just because I found this forum in March means I have no credibility? I've been following the White Sox for 22 years, (longer than you've been alive?) usually catching on average around 140 games a year. Why isn't it fair to call you out and simply say, "Yes, you're right, we suck, but NOT because of why you thought we'd suck!"? Did I hurt your feelings? Don't take it personally, you were wrong, that's all. Sorry, I shouldn't say that. Once I have 1,000 posts inherently my comments will have credibility. Makes about as much sense as saying you should only start in the major leagues after you hit 30 yrs old. P.S. I am a 35yr old man and in running my software business and managing a 100 or so employees, I don't get on here as much as I like, so it may take a while to get 1,000 posts ;-)

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) Well, I guess I was one of the few then that thought our offense was going to be mediocre this year. The signs were there with the aging players, the poor 2nd half last year, the 2/3 pathetic outfield situation, and our inability to hit lefty pitching. Hell, with a MEDIOCRE offense this year we're probably 8 games over right around the lead for the wild card...
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) Other than being an incredibly misguided attempt at self serving s*** talking what exactly did you hope to gain by calling people out? You can't even get your facts straight. Uhh what facts did I not get straight? I think it's time someone steps up and says something when you talk out of both sides of your mouth. It's easy sitting on the sidelines being able to cover your ass and when things go wrong you can say "I told you so". Meanwhile, the reason this team sucks is NOT the reason you predicted at the start of the year with your doomsday attitude, in fact, it's the exact opposite, which is my point. That said, how can you sit there saying you have ANY more of a clue than the people you b**** about that are running this team???
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) Great post kalapse. We were pissed cause KW didn't do enough to improve a team that struggled during the 2nd half of last season and you could see with your own eyes that they were losing a step. I recall you making that post about Jenks and all of these stats about him declining since around the allstar break last year. Sure, the stats showed considerable decline, but sheesh, the guy was still 41 out of 45. Would you take that out of a closer every year? The bottom line here is our hitting has been a complete joke this year- despite everyone's b****ing about Pods and the CF situation in ST, nobody thought Dye, Konerko, Crede, Iguchi and gang would decide to put their skirts on for the first two months of the year. (Ironically, if we didn't have the guy MOST people were b****ing about that Kenny picked up we'd probably be 4 or 5 more games under .500 (Erstad).) All I am saying is the naysayers in this forum were WRONG about why this team was going to suck this year, and it proves you guys don't necessarily know it all either. If and when this team starts hitting, you'll see that this is a competitive squad after all, and you'll have to eat some crowe.
-
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) If you mean that we still can compete then yes I agree. Lots of things didn't happen the way we thought they would and that's why I don't put a lot of faith in predictions and so called experts like we see on ESPN and in baseball magazines. And it's also a little "shot" to the people in ST who said we were going to suck because Kenny was an idiot for doing (or not doing) anything with the SP. Turns out they were wrong with a capital W. It turns out, we do suck, but not because of the SP, that's for sure. And isn't it ironic??? And yes, I still think we have a chance if we can actually start to hit like we can- the bullpen doesnt need to be awesome in that case, just decent if we can get this type of SP...
-
All the talk in ST was HOW BAD our starters were going to be. I don't recall nearly the amount of people b****ing about Kenny's job regarding the bullpen or lineup on the field. There wasn't much talk about that... Sure, there was some anger over the way BA was handled and lied to regarding the "open" CF position, and the signing of Grinderstad angered many (as well did the resigning of Pods). But do you guys remember (and you know who you are!) talking about how BAD our SP was going to be? Buerhle was DONE, Garland was over rated, Contreras was old, Danks would be sent down after April leaving us with the 5th starter horrors of 04, and finally Vasquez wouldn't make it past the 5th inning all year. And after opening day it just reinforced your beliefs. Some of you guys even were criticizing Jenks!!! The guy is probably the best competitor we have. Nevertheless, our SP has been absolutely fantastic and the hitting absolutely atrocious. The last 4 weeks, I'd have to say I've never seen a worse collective bullpen performance in my 20 years of watching baseball. Isn't it Ironic? The point is, it's amazing we're only one game under .500. If we don't hit in June, I'll pack it in but I still have faith this team could make a run for it... My .02

White Sox vs. Yankees, 6/4/07 (W)
JohnCangelosi replied to SoxPride56's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Does anyone else get the impression you're watching a minor league game tonight? It seems like both teams have packed it in for the year... -
I've been saying forever it seems that our hitting is going to turn around. Guys like Konerko, Dye, Crede, Iguchi, etc are going to turn it around- their career stats should tell us this... The foundation of our offensive team is still there- the same team that was consistently good in the major offensive stats in the American League. Now, after two months, I have no other choice but to come to the realization that we're just NOT that good offensively? I know our outfield was questionable to start the season, and it has gotten worse with Pods and now Erstad out... Anyway, I guess I find it hard to believe we're going to be THIS BAD offensively all year, even though it may even be too late at this point to turn it around. I guess I am asking if this is really our offensive club or are we going through a prolonged slump like Cleveland did last year to start things off? I dont know what to believe anymore... Thoughts?
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) I believe it's 28 runs in last 13 innings combined for these guys. Another incredible stat Fathom. The other one today was TEN losses after having the lead after the 6th. How many did the Twins have ALL OF LAST YEAR after the 6th? Mercy.
