Ozuna Will Start in LF Tomorrow, Opening Day
JohnCangelosi replied to letsgoarow's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...soxnt01.article http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines Ozuna is the obvious pick, yes but with Guillen the obvious move isn't always the one that is made. I agree Ozuna is the right call, and Ozzie certainly doesn't make the obvious choice sometimes...But that's pretty disturbing if we're hearing about Podsednik's groin right before opening day- could be a long season in LF for us... WTF!!! -
Whalen: On Podsednik, Jenks' Velocity, Closer situation
JohnCangelosi replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) No, not really. I'm not ready to call 1 year a trend, just because Jenks regained some of his velocity last year after not having much in the spring does not mean he'll do the same this season. Not to mention the fact that he completely broke down in the second half last year, these factors are not exactly encouraging. There's already reports that Jenks has gained weight since arriving in Arizona and his arm is still being held together by a few screws. Luckily there's a pretty solid backup plan in Mike MacDougal, though having to use him would take all the depth out of the pen, I'm not all that worried about the closer. Do you think it's a bit of a stretch to say he "completely broke down"? I mean, he was 41 of 45 save opps as I recall (I am not looking at the stats). Yes, he blew some big games for us- in fact the one against Boston at Fenway I ended up punching my desk and smashed it up pretty good. He sucked as did the rest of the bullpen in the second half but I still dont think it was a complete break down...I think that's a bit of an overstatement... -

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) are we gonna do the whole Jenks velocity thing again this year. Yeah we know Pods and Erstad are the two worst hitters ever and this team is gonna win 60 games. Heard it all before. I agree 100%. We heard the SAME exact thing about Bobby's velocity last year in ST. God, the negativity in this forum is absolutely insane! I just joined, but I could only IMAGINE what people were saying when Cleveland was on our tail late in the season 05. My guess is a majority poll of people here would say they were going to miss the playoffs entirely... -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:18 AM) It's turning me into Billy Packer. Yesterday I pulled a handful of hair out of my shower drain, I've gained 35 pounds over the past 2 days and I killed a drifter this morning just to watch him die. I don't necessarily like the "haters" in this forum, but THAT is f***ing HILARIOUS! LOL...

I love CBS Sportlines' projected lineup- what obvious f*&k up did they make here??? Projected Lineup No. Player Position 1. Scott Podsednik LF 2. Darin Erstad CF 3. Jim Thome DH 4. Paul Konerko 1B 5. Jermaine Dye RF 6. A.J. Pierzynski C 7. Tadahito Iguchi 2B 8. Joe Crede 3B 9. Juan Uribe SS Crede batting 8th? WTF??? Unless I missed something these guys are a bunch of morons. And BTW, everyone is saying the Tigers are going to be awesome this year. I don't see it happening. No way do they beat KC a million times this year or pretty much start the season 40 games over. Not to mention Kenny Rogers and Verlander will not win more than 15 games combined- I see injuries in their futures ;-)

GAME THREAD: LAAAAAAAAAAA vs Sox, 3:05pm
JohnCangelosi replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2007 Season in Review
I dont think the White Sox can harm Danks by bringing him up too early. The kid seems to have enough confidence in himself to be able to take his knocks in his rookie year (as he most likely will) and learn from it and become a better pitcher. Just my opinion... On the other hand, I worry about Gavin's mentality...great stuff, no control and not a confident guy it appears... -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 27, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) A bunch of us were at The Catcher's Inn on 35th when that happened. The place erupted. Beer flying everywhere....hugs and high fives to go around. What a memory. Awesome. Have you ever seen this? From a fan's perspective at the park. Pretty much how I reacted that night... -

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: MARCH 26
JohnCangelosi replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(StatManDu @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) JOE ON THE GO 1987: In search of some outfield help and with a surplus of startin pitcher, the Sox dealt Joe Cowley to the Philadelphia Phillies for Gary Redus. Cowley was effecive -- and sometimes brilliant -- but erratic duiing his one-year stint with the White Sox. That was never more evident than in his no-hitter of Sept. 19, 1986. In the White Sox 7-1 victory at California, Cowley walked seven and struck out eight in tossing the 14th no-hitter in franchise hitter and the first since John "Blue Moon" Odom and Francisco Barrios accomplished the feat together at Oakland. Another Cowley paradox: On May 28, 1986, the right-hander began his start at Texas with seven consecutive strikeouts, an A.L. record, but wound up losing the game. Cowley was 11-11 with a 3.88 ERA for the 1986 Sox but the presence of veterans Richard Dotson, Floyd Bannister and Jose DeLeon and the emergence of Bill Long and Neil Allen made Cowley expendable. Cowley flamed out in a hurry in Philadelphia after suffering severe control problems. In five games (four starts) with the Phils, Cowley was 0-4 with a 15.43 ERA. Redus became the Sox regular left fielder and swiped 52 bases. How come we never feature John Cangelosi in the this date in White Sox history posts???? :-) -
You guys can't really believe this team would go 74-88. They have essentially the same starting staff as last year, a better bullpen, all key players back and about the same depth (losing Hall does hurt). They absolutely played the worst baseball they could have played in the second half and still won 90 games. This team will be in the 90+ win category again this year. The big surprise for people will be when the Tigers suck a dutch d**k this year...

BUMPED::::::Toby Hall Possibly out for the season
JohnCangelosi replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Man I've seen only a few games this ST but each game Gustavo has had like 3 hits each time...oh well, I guess it's back to the drawing board. Let's hope this is the worst injury we have to deal with this year and we'll still be ok. -
BUMPED::::::Toby Hall Possibly out for the season
JohnCangelosi replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Somebody tell me "April Fools" came a few days early...but for real guys, let's not TOTALLY catastrophize this...he's a career .265 hitter and if he got 500 AB's in this year (which he wouldn't) he would probably have 10 HR's. I know it sucks in our division with all the tough lefties but we can get through this. Molina has looked decent in the few ST games I've seen or am I mistaken??? -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 11:41 AM) $20M over 6 years $380K $380K ------- $20.76M $11M over 5 years $5M over ? years $12M over 3-4 years ------- $28M Predicting production over several years with this bunch is nearly impossible, way too many intangibles. Do people REALLY think that Sweeney can hit more than 10-15 hrs in 2008 playing everyday? I haven't seen that kind of power stroke from him and I am not sure if he's going to develop it as he matures... I like what I've seen from Fields but it looks like 2008 will be a rebuilding year if we did this...we'd really have to play bigtime small ball to win games...
-
Danks is young but in my opinion has a lot more balls than that pussy Floyd. All you have to do is watch a few interviews to see who has more confidence in themselves...As much as I hate to say it, Danks is a "grinder" on the mound ;-)
-
I agree it depends on Pods and Erstad at the top of the order. Very quietly Pods' average has dropped to a poultry .179 in ST- we're SOL if we're going to be taking the best 3-4-5 combo in the league with 2 outs and nobody on quite a bit... I still say, however, they'll win 96 games this year, because I think most people are over rating the Tigers as well as the Twins. The Tigers are not going to play as well this year, and neither are the Twins. I think the Indians will be better but none of these teams are unbeatable. Don't forget NO Francisco Liriano for the Twinkies this year either.
-
96 Wins for our White Sox with a division title. All these clowns smoking the Tigers pole will realize that they were a one year wonder- after starting 76-36 they were one of the worst teams down the stretch and went something like 19-31 in their last 50. Look for that to continue, Rogers and Verlander won't hold up. Neither will Minnesota's lucky ass with their makeshift B.S.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 25, 2007 -> 02:20 PM) Buehrle is finished. You guys crack me up. I know he has sucked for it seems forever but let's give him a chance this year, he has been one of the more consistent pitchers for the last 5-6 years in MLB. -
Danks wins White Sox fifth starter's job
JohnCangelosi replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What are you talking about: People in this thread earlier were saying that Danks was going to face Santana on Saturday. If the Twins decide to go on a 4 man rotation it will happen but I don't see them doing that and rather matching Santana vs Contreras on Sunday. That's what I am talking about. -

Unless the Twinkies decide to throw Santana on his normal rest, but I see the Twins working in Ponson or Ortiz etc otherwise those guys would not a get a start till Mid April... -

JohnCangelosi replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Unless the Twinkies are going to a 4 man rotation this year (which we know is not the case, right?) Danks will NOT be facing Santana on Saturday April 7th. He will be, most likely, facing Ponson or some other scrub the Twins will be throwing out there...Saturday is the 5th game of the year for the Twins as well gentleman lets get our facts straight ;-) -
I would guess I am the only guy in Chicago with a John Cangelosi...
