Tonight Was This Season's Turnaround?
JohnCangelosi replied to JohnCangelosi's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) I'm saying 14 straight wins starting tonight. I will revise my prediction. I see nothing short of a 27-2 June. Have no idea on the amount of games we're playing but it has to be nearly every day with our April and May ;-) -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) I think it's safe to say, the fuse is lit. Holy Shiite!!! Kalapse are you going to get on board with my prediction of a 22 win June??? ;-) AHHH Now I just clicked on your link. I should've known better ;-) -
First, I thought Jerry Owens played pretty darn well in the preseason. Now, I realize he can get the bat taken out of his hands but I was glad to see him get on base and BOY can he move when he gets there! I love to see manufactured runs, nothing like it. I don't know guys- but something tells me that tonight MAY be the night that turns this whole season around. What great back to back outings by our staff. You have to believe our hitting will come around in June and the bullpen as well. Our hitting, if history is ANY indicator, MUST improve SIGNIFICANTLY. And I am talking BIG. If anyone thinks all these guys will be hitting .220 at the end of the year you're crazy. It will come around, the law of stats will win in this case. If so, we're right in this thing. We have talent. Our SP is as good as anyones. We just got to start hitting, and for the love of God put Crede on the DL and move in Fields. He looks horrible out there. Thoughts? Am I way off here? Way too optimistic Kalapse?

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) Seriously, Just call up BA and Sweeney and lets move on with this franchise. They aren't goign to get better unless they play. I couldn't agree more. God Crede looks useless. Bring up Fields while we're at it. -

There goes Grinderstad. This is just pathetic. It's like being in a bad relationship watching this team play. -
QUOTE(joeynach @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) What annoys me is that Twins just arent that good. They have no pitchers outside of Santana and Boonser is decent. They have 4 good hitters; Morneau, Hunter, Mauer, Cuddyear and a cast of clown who all struggle to hit .250. He was throwing at least 95 every pitch when he was striking those guys out early. Before Mac started struggling Aardsma could just come in and rear back and fire. Now he is trying to be fine cuz he is being used in pressure situations with no room for error, since that role I haven't seen him above 92 on the gun. Terrible. That's exactly it. I could throw underhanded to that pussy Tyner, Kubiel, Punto, Cirillo (name another no name white guy on the bench) and get them out 50% of the time. Instead, we walk these guys. Did you see Bartlett in the ninth? The guy looked like a scared kid in little league. He didn't want to swing the bat. Neither did Tyner, and we walk him. What a joke of a loss, chalk this one up amongst many crazy, frustrating losses at HHH.

Classic Twins win right there. I am going to drink a bottle of wine and go beat up my girlfriend. Peace out! This may be my last post of the year!

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 30, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) We have a bullpen of hard throwers, not pitchers. These so-called "power arms" would be, most importantly, locked up for years on first contracts. But many, many people on this site noted that several of these guys had problems getting the ball over the plate. And guess what? They can't. But they are locked up for years at reasonable rates. We have a roster -- and minor league system, apparently -- that rewards guys who swing hard, strike out a lot, and look great in a uniform. But they don't seem to play the game with intelligence or heart. We have little to no offense from LF and SS this year. Last year, we had little to no offense from LF and SS. No improvements were made, other than a heavy investment in wishful thinking about guys turning it around. This one's on the general manager, for hedging this season -- and sacrificing mightily -- for the promise of payroll predictability and undefined, uncertain and unlikely tomorrows. The next time he wants to go on a rant about wanting to see better performance, he should start with himself. Well, in my opinion, this one is on Ozzie. It's absolutely ridiculous to bring in AAArdsma there. "Righty on Righty" matchup my f***ING ASS. For the love of God, can we NOT see that Logan is more capable of getting f***ING PEOPLE OUT RIGHT f***ING NOW????? WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET BOONE LOGAN CLOSE OUT THIS GOD DAMN INNING OZZIE!!!!!!!!!!!! f***!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Bo Jackson was, without a doubt, the best athlete to ever play baseball, and probably the best athlete of the 20th century. I'll go to the grave defending that position. For the younger guys in this forum, you should grab some old footage of when he was with Kansas City. I remember one game against the White Sox, he hit a hard 2 hopper to Scotty Fletcher at short (this is when KC was on turf). Scotty fielded it cleanly, patted his glove and FIRED and hard as he could to first. Got Bo by maybe 1/4 of a step. I have never seen a faster, more powerful specimen in my life.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 29, 2007 -> 08:02 AM) He might have left him in too long, but the bullpen is loaded with gascans who can't throw strike 1. He's got to trust someone down there. Surely, I don't give the ball to Mac or AAArdsma right now, but why not give Boone Logan a try for an Inning, then Thorton and inning and Jenks the 8th and 9th? How many times do we head into the bottom of the 6th with a one run LEAD against Santana? I realize Bobby for two may be a stretch but we've done it before. We just can't, in my opinion, under ANY circumstance, give the ball to Mac or AAArdsma right now when we are tied or have the lead. I still have confidence in the other guys.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:50 AM) You could have just titled the thread "Fathom, whitesox101, What do you think of Ozzie?" and left it at that. LOL- actually, I am interested in hearing what those guys have to say, so bring it on! All I ask is that it's legitimate criticism and not some nonsensical stuff that we tend to get sometimes on this forum.
-
Ok, this is not meant to be an "Ozzie bashing" thread even though it may turn out to be... But after watching him manage, there are a few specific things he does that I find myself screaming at the TV that I wanted to share, and hear other things from other Sox fans on where you think he could improve as the manager. First, let me say that I think his players like him, and play hard for him. I would want a guy like Ozzie to play for if I was a ball player, for sure. My issues with Ozzie are purely on field decisions that he makes during the game. BTW, I can careless about any media crap that happens either, it's hyped overblown crap that doesn't affect our performance as a team (at least I'd like to believe we're stronger than that). 1) Ozzie overplaying the "lefty on lefty" scenario, even when, as an example, Neal Cotts was better against righties (AND EVEN SAID SO HIMSELF). Cotts couldn't hit the strike zone against lefties unless it was right down the middle in 2006. We have similar stuff going on with Thorton this year, although to not that degree. What happened to the "feel of the game" where you feel someone could close the door on an inning or game? Last night I wanted to see Logan finish off the inning against Hunter. I am not sure why, but I did. I felt he could get the job done. I wish we saw a bit more of this from Ozzie. 2) Leaving in the starters too long. Leaving in Contreras last night is a perfect example. After the first guy gets on, pull him! This was one of those times I was screaming at him last night! I'll leave the rest of the comments for you guys- interested in where you think Oz could improve as the White Sox manager, and PLEASE, be specific!!

I'd like to see what our record @ Minny was from 2001-2003. It was probably pretty ugly, and my guess is Bob remembers those games as well... But there is no doubt, in my opinion, the Twins enjoy the best home field advantage in baseball. And they pull out games like last night because it. Not to mention, Ozzie helped out the cause last night by leaving Contreras in way too long...

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ May 29, 2007 -> 01:06 AM) It actually looks worse than the numbers show. Those numbers actually surprise me. The games always have you on the tip of your seat. Something seems to always go wrong. I was not surprised about that chopper that Torii hit. You just know something stupid was going to happen. That is tough luck. It really is. We could be up by 5 and I'll still watch every single out like it's a playoff game. A 1 run lead will always scare the s*** out of me there. You guys remember that game a few years back going into the 9th we were up 1-0 and those assholes tied it on that liner to Konerko that appeared foul (which it was) then went all the way to the bullpen to have the runner on score from first? Ugh... These are the types of things that happen in Minny...all the time against us. I can go down the list, from the swinging right looking center hitting left shank that Doug Mienkevicz hit against Foulke for a key 9th inning hit in 01 or 02. Probably the ugliest hit I've ever seen in my life outside of Ron Kittle's lone hit for the White Sox against Nolan Ryan for like the 240th 1 hitter of his career. In the past few years, we have played better at the Twinkie dome. But it's the WAY in which we lose over there that is so friggin strange and frustrating that is probably the biggest issue. Especially in the years where they had no talent over there in Minny. Now they have legit players, but still win on that garbage from Torii Hunter last night. You can say all you want about that being fundamental "bat on the ball" BS but the question remains: Does that ball pop up 2 million feet at any other stupid ballpark in baseball? When do you ever see this sh&t happen against the White Sox in other parks? You don't...not nearly as much anyway. And it leads you to believe this is how the Twins win games over the course of the year at their park. But when it comes to the playoffs, they are the Yankees' (or plug in team) bi&^h because you can't count on that garbage happening in a short 5 or 7 game series and they're exposed. Here's the bottom line- our bullpen is going through a really rough stretch right now. We come back and win these next two games, start hitting the ball and get our bullpen right. We can beat Detroit head to head and have a schedule in June where we can make things happen!

QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) How's it luck? It's called making contact. How long have you been watching Twins baseball? They are by far the luckiest team in the league with all of the BS that happens in this joke of a stadium, including shank hits and infield choppers that bounce like a FU*&ING superball that they have perfected at this place. Not to mention the lost in the tarp advantage they have amongst others. I've seen it now for 22 years. Playing there 81 games a year is the biggest home field advantage in baseball, bar none. Of course, in the post season, they get exposed and undressed like the b&tches they are but thats a whole nother point. I admit they are fundamentally sound and have a great bullpen, but mark my words: THIS WILL BE A DIFFERENT TEAM WHEN THEY MOVE INTO THE NEW STADIUM!!!!

F*&K the Twins with their lucky ass infield hits- they are the luckiest team in the league!!! And our bullpen absolutely sucks!

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 28, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) 2 runs. game. What are the odds of scoring 4 against Santana? Maybe 5000 to 1???

Replacements for Ozuna and Sisco...
JohnCangelosi replied to JohnCangelosi's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) I think it will definitely be Prinz, and it sounds like Gonzalez as well. No need for too many lefties in the bullpen. Two non-exciting additions it sounds like. -
Who do we want to see replace these guys? Since we've already seen BA and Sweeney this year, we might as well take a look at Owens? He looked pretty good in ST as I recall, and you never know he may be ready to make an impact with his speed. And regarding Sisco's replacement, I cannot even venture a guess? Maybe Haeger? I'm probably way off on this one though...

Ok, I am getting a bit nostalgic here but I thought it would be cool to share your favorite Sox childhood memory at a live game. For me, it was an 85 or 86 game at Old Comiskey. The Sox were playing the Indians and Otis Nixon led off with a homer as I recall. Nevertheless, the Sox were down 6-5 in the ninth with runners on 1st and 2nd. 2 outs. Harold Baines at the plate. The whole crowd chanting "Harold, Harold, Harold..." 2 strikes on Harold. He hits a shot to center field.... I keep watching the center fielder as I think he's got a bead on it, although he is running back furiously towards the track... I keep looking at Nixon (the center fielder) running back...back...until the point I see him run face first into the wall... I look just above him and see the ball sail above the fence for a game winner!!!! The whole crowd is chanting "Harold, Harold, Harold...." looking for a curtain call. We wait for 10 minutes to see him come out!! The shy MOFO never comes out for a curtain call, but still my favorite childhood Sox memory. Harold later says that his father never got admiration for what he did for his kids growing up doing a great job raising them and he didn't feel comfortable taking credit for anything either.... Was there ever a more clutch hitter in White Sox history? I remember him getting so many huge hits growing up! I'd love to hear other people's experiences (younger and older!!!) on this thread!!!

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2007 -> 07:58 AM) If the Sox fired Walker last Thursday and started hitting like they have been, people here would have said its proof positive that he was the problem. Now that they have begun to hit, maybe he isn't. Walk is not the problem. Our guys will hit, and I believe you are starting to see that. If it keeps coming, this should be a fun year.

QUOTE(BearSox @ May 23, 2007 -> 07:50 AM) If the pitching continues to deal, and if the offense is here to stay, the league better watch out. But lets hope the Bullpen breaks out of this funk. Agreed. I was looking at the June schedule, and if we can get our bullpen in order, we could really begin to turn on the heat. This club is good enough to do so, there is no doubt in my mind. Ozzie will have to make better decisions with who to bring in when and when to pull people from the pen, however.

QUOTE(pale_hose @ May 23, 2007 -> 08:21 AM) This morning I was listening to Mike North. A caller called in and said that he wish North would give Ozzie a show where North just yells at him b/c of how good the Sox have been playing lately. Then North goes on and talks about how the Sox clubhouse is a bunch of bad asses, and they might fight in the lockerroom, but will go out, band together and win ball games. He then compared them to the old A's teams and said that the Chicago White Sox come back and win the 2007 World Series. Does Mike North actually think this or is he just kissing Ozzie's ass? Actually it sounds like a lot of fair weather fans we have in this forum, to be honest. The sky was never falling, in my opinion, and it's just a matter of time before we start hitting. If our starting pitching continues as is and our bullpen straightens out a bit, we're going to be dangerous if we make it to the post season.

I was just thinking, when was the LAST time we had a game where it was a "laugher"- in 40 games this year I don't think I can remember more than 1????
