  1. Three way tie for second goes to which team now?
  2. Two more innings to go. US/Colombia in warm-up. Have to win that one in order to advance, right? Or another one of those crazy tie-breaker situations? A loss would mean a 3 way tie with Colombia and Canada...not sure how all the tiebreakers would shake out there.
  3. Puerto Rico beating DR would be one of the bigger upsets of the WBC ... obviously PR has a ton of talent of their own, but still. Everyone had DR, Japan and USA as their top 3 picks. Almost impossible to go against Japan at this point. Cuba just doesn't have enough hitting outside top 4 guys and their pitching depth is relatively weak/er now, too.
  4. Going to anything close to the NBA post-season where you have like 18-20 teams just waters down the meaningful nature of a 162 game season. Them they'd have to go back to 154, 150 games...maybe down into the 140s even which would save the White Sox potential days on the IL I guess. Ownersight prefer if extended postseason gives them 15-20% more tv revenue compared to the loss of 4-11 home games in September when attendance is dead except postseason penant races.
  5. Still don't have an actual $100+ million contract in terms of guarateed pay out to the player, TL however one wants to spin that deal.

  7. Sounds like something Scott Reifert or Merkin came up with... Tax penalties, lol? Now we are adding up separate contracts and putting them together? Might as well add Sale's Red Sox contract to his Sox one. Note can reach is different from guaranteed. See 2025 Yoan Moncada contract terms.
  8. The Guardians, who declined comment, have a contract with DSG that runs through 2027. It pays them between $47 million and $54 million a year. Now that DSG has filed for bankruptcy here are a couple of ways this could affect the Guardians. If DSG rejects its contract outright with the Guardians, or any other team it has a deal with, MLB, according to sources, would quickly get the rights back and take steps to make sure the games would be televised. If DSG refuses to pay the Guardians, or any other team it has a deal with, it could still broadcast the games because it would continue to collect revenue without having to pay rights fees. Meanwhile, MLB would have to go to bankruptcy court to get the rights back, which would be a lengthy process. MLB released this statement last night: “Diamond Sports Group’s bankruptcy declaration today is an unfortunate development that we have been expecting. Despite Diamond’s economic situation, there is every expectation that they will continue televising all games they are committed to during the bankruptcy process. Major League Baseball is ready to produce and distribute games to fans in their local markets in the event that Diamond or any other regional sports network is unable to do so as required by their agreement with our Clubs." https://www.cleveland.com/sports/2023/03/guardians-games-on-bally-sports-still-in-limbo-as-diamond-sports-group-files-for-bankruptcy.html
  9. "The Post reported that Diamond stands to lose $20 million annually on San Diego alone. The Union-Tribune previously reported that approximately $50 million the Padres are owed from its agreement with Bally Sports San Diego would be diminished or even completely wiped out in 2023 with a bankruptcy filing. According to The Post, MLB has not yet finalized exactly how teams in affected markets would be able to view games while the league negotiates with cable companies for lower contracts. MLB would likely settle on pay schedules for both traditional TV and streaming options, though games could be made available free of charge until the details are ironed out." https://www.gaslampball.com/2023/3/14/23639149/san-diego-mlb-stream-padres-games-tv
  10. "The most notable development for fans of teams whose local broadcasting deals are carried through Bally is that the company confirmed the RSN “will continue to operate in the ordinary course during the Chapter 11 process.” The corporation added it has approximately $425MM in cash to fund the business during its restructure. Diamond is responsible for local broadcasts for 14 major league teams*. Kosman reported yesterday that Diamond would try to restructure its deals with some of the clubs but was planning to entirely reject its contracts with the Diamondbacks, Padres, Guardians and Reds. (Diamond didn’t provide any specifics on its planned course of action in today’s release.) According to the Post, MLB is planning to step up for teams whose contracts are abandoned and stream them in-market for free while the league searches for alternatives. There’ll surely be more developments over the coming weeks and months, but the long-anticipated bankruptcy for the fledgling RSN corporation has officially been set in motion."
  11. Moncada singles yet again... promptly picked off first. On base something like 12 of last 15 opportunities.
  12. Moncada smart ba#running to freeze on liner almost snared right in front of him, bases loaded again. Can break game open here.
  13. Despaigne is like the Goodyear Blimp... yet still seems like a savvy hitter though. Tons of int'l experience. 2-1 Cuba bottom 5. One out runners 1st and 2nd. Robert HBP... Moncada must have singled or walked. Quite a tear of OBP.
  14. Santos just made a heckuva catch in LF on the warning track...stabbed it at the last second.
  15. Nice opportunity double from Moncada but dont love his habit of watching it too long. 7 for his last 10 after a bad start to WBC.

  17. "As Bloomberg reported, Prudential Financial, Fidelity, Hein Park Capital Management, and Mudrick Capital Management would become owners of the Bally Sports stations as Sinclair’s debt converts to equity. I’ll skip all the fun financial stuff about how a huge portion of that outstanding debt is trading at pennies on the dollar and get to what this could mean for a very pesky Cubs rival. Media rights deals can be terminated or renegotiated as part of the restructuring, so teams relying on revenue from Bally RSNs might be in for a very rude awakening. The Cardinals are one such team and they are heading into the sixth year of a deal initially signed with Fox Sports Midwest that was to pay them north of $1 billion over 15 years. That means the Redbirds are in danger of losing more than $66.6 million in annual revenue just like that. The bright side is that the Cards will probably get their competitive balance picks back if Bally Sports tanks, plus they still have devil (untouted rookie) magic on their side. Oh, and we can’t forget Chip Caray. They don’t need money to fleece teams into paying them to take on All-Stars or to turn create-a-players into impact contributors. Of course, it’s a little easier to operate frugally when you’ve got the safety net of TV money secured for another decade." https://www.cubsinsider.com/2023/01/26/cardinals-could-take-huge-financial-hit-as-sinclairs-bally-sports-rsns-nearing-bankruptcy/
  18. For this season, though, there are still at least 12 teams that are largely unaffected... including the Cubs and Yankees due to limited corporate exposures of their networks to Sinclair/Bally RSN's issues.
  19. That doesn't change the fact that Sake and Q were the last two pitchers the Sox were able to secure with team friendly contract provisions at some point in their Year 1-5 seasons... buying out multiple arb years and extending out into FA years.
  20. Here, meaning with the Yankees — a team that expects to be in the postseason every year. “Look, I came to the Yankees because I wanted to win,” he said, “and I’m ecstatic that I’m a Yankee and I’m going to get a chance to pitch in multiple postseason runs for the rest of my career. They’re invested in their players, they invest in their facilities, their staff, everything. Baseball is at the forefront for them. Winning is at the forefront. Like, they care about it."

  22. This number is already locked in for Cuba, Taiwan, and Panama, since they have no more games to play. Cuba allowed 15 runs over 108 outs for a quotient of .1388, Panama had a quotient of .2 (21/105), and Taiwan had a quotient of .2952 (31/105). As it stand now, the Netherlands has a quotient of .15384 and Italy has a quotient of .19753. This makes Cuba a lock to advance to the next round if there is a five way tie, since it has the lowest quotient of any team in the pool. It is mathematically impossible for Italy to beat the Netherlands without Cuba having one of the two best quotients. Cuba basically guaranteed to advance. Italy would be 2-2 and advance over the other 3 teams that are tied 2-2. Things get really dicey for the 2nd place team battle if Netherlands continues to lose to Italy (down 6-1, top of the 7th). BUT! It is not enough for Italy to beat the Netherlands to advance. If they beat the Netherlands by only one run in a nine inning game for instance, say 1 to 0, that will only give them a quotient of .1484 (16/108) to the Netherlands .125 (13/102 in the best case scenario for Italy with a walk-off in the ninth with 2 outs). Assuming a nine inning game, Italy needs to win by at least 4 runs without giving up 6 runs or more to enter the next round. If Italy gives up more than six runs in a nine inning game then at least Panama would surpass them in quotient (.2037 vs. .2), and most likely the Netherlands as well. source: reddit/baseball Japan and Australia most likely for Pool B...Japan with Ohtani leading the way now in the process of going 4-0.
  23. Madison Bumgarner's $85 million contract is the second largest by total value in Diamondbacks history. The only contract that was larger was Zack Greinke's $206.5 million free-agent deal during the 2015 offseason. https://www.mlb.com/news/corbin-carroll-extension-with-d-backs $111 million 8 years
  24. Sunk or swim with Moncada. Hahn's simply scared to look like a jackass again when he turns into a superstar for another team after being traded and remotivated....even at those peak salary numbers.
