  1. Most of the national sports headlines are saying mid May return, fwiw.
  2. I simply said Crochet was not on the active roster. That's inarguable, and Balta has already pointed out the uphill battle he faces to get to 10 fWAR if everything goes absolutely perfectly the rest of his Sox career. Last time I checked, Happ was healthy. At any rate, we definitely don't want to compare the Royals and especially the Astros w/ Sox drafts. Kris Bryant's production alone likely eclipses all the contributions from Sox rebuild draft picks.
  3. Taking Abrams over Vaughn would have been ballsy, but it remains a mystery why we haven't gone after athletes who can play CF, middle infield and catcher after all the success with Tim Anderson. Collins was one of the most unathletic catchers in recent memory. Madrigal was always going to have physical limitations. Same with Vaughn and Sheets. It's almost like they are totally reliant on Cubans and Anderson to supply athleticism...now it's Colas and Cespedes. Hopefully Montgomery is the next Corey Seager, but that's a huge ask out of him.
  4. I should have given them credit for Rizzo and Contreras as well. Almora was clearly a bust. Schwarber and Cease became quite valuable for different reasons. In some ways, the jury is still out on Ian Happ. Pierce Johnson has been a serviceable reliever. The White Sox just as easily could have spent $15 million on any FA RFer, still had Madrigal and saved $5.5 million on Harrison. It remains to seen with Pollock, but Friedman knows what he's doing in LA. For all the mentions of Bellinger, he was never a realistic possibility for numerous reasons. With the Rays, he had an uncanny knack for moving players one year early instead of one year too late.
  5. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Knapp Andrew Knapp of Phillies/Reds fame as a backup catcher could elect for FA today...fwiw. Would be much better than Zavala.
  6. Rushing players to the major leagues is hardly something to take credit for...the final results of those drafts will take much longer to assess, as high schoolers almost always require 3-5 years of development. Assuming Burger gets traded at some point, there's lost nothing left to show for all those draft picks other Andrew Vaughn.
  7. The Cubs, Royals and Astros started off their rebuilds basically with Lester/Baez and Jose Altuve…not to mention we also had Rodon, Anderson and Abreu. The percentage of core pieces added by the draft is far and away the lowest of the four with the White Sox. Ten members of the roster now are 30+, including a number in their mid-30’s already. We better hope the Indians decide to muddle through the next 2-3 years instead of a firesale…or they’re going to end up as the best team in baseball 4-5 years from now depending on how advanced the young pieces they get back are.
  8. https://www.mlb.com/news/dark-horse-cy-young-candidates-for-2022
  9. Don't count your chickens before they are hatched with Kopech and Lopez.
  10. The major point, just like with the Cubs…drafting and development of pitchers in the June draft. Of course, the Cease trade was a killer for Epstein. Without the Big 3 trades and one fortunate decision of Luis Robert (thanks largely to the Cuban Connection), this franchise rebuild would have been truly mired in mediocrity.
  11. I’m assuming they meant starters… And Rodon, of course, which doesn’t help the Sox much about right now. Quintana we can’t really take credit for since he was with the Yankees and Mets, pretty sure just a couple of AA starts…so give that credit to the minor league scouting group and/or Cooper.
  12. That didn’t age well…although someone else said 3-4 with conviction.
  13. Even Wheeler has been experiencing shoulder soreness this spring…
  14. Things were great under Schneider…then everything was blamed on Allen Thomas and we didn’t even draft his kid. Now where are we…?
  15. You're going to get another FG chart demonstrating Moncada's worth to the team...
  16. I know...it is kind of interesting because Balta was harping on it in nearly every post but here we are. Provides front offices another layer of protection from fanbases, too...we can actually cheer on suppressing salaries in the name of fiscal responsibility.
  17. Congrats to Balta for getting the tax threshold into every thread. That's definitely a new one for Sox fans to get used to for the next three seasons.
  18. Well, considering we just gave up on Hostetler's 1-1 and he's now in pro scouting...it's something. The gradual elimination of every single first round draft pick from the active roster other than TA7 and AV (for now). Maybe better to fully write out Andrew Vaughn in this thread...
  19. Do you really believe the top teams in the game need to get validation that “they were in on XYZ target”? The fans of those teams expect actual results, not rationalizations like “he wasn’t worth the asking price, we didn’t want to mortgage the future, etc.” Corbin Burnes and Wheeler get brought up constantly. I don’t hear the Twins promoting that Mike Radcliffe had a verbal agreement with Juan Soto’s buscones before they flip flopped to Washington at the last minute. Preller got rebuffed yesterday by the Mets and was right back at it trying to make his team better the next day. And that constant tinkering can backfire. It certainly did last year. That hunger to get better everyday and compete with the best was more hardwired into KW almost twenty years ago than it is into Sox DNA right now. Riverboat gambler mode. At least it was exciting and entertaining. Currently, just feels like we’re simply content to rest on our laurels than to do everything possible to put a legit WS contending team on the field. If anything, it would be better to say nothing about Sox efforts because it comes off like we never have the needed bullets to get anything done. That’s even more frustrating. If Manaea (granted, about as likely as Rodon last year) wins the Cy Young, the storyline will be that we were right there until the final minute and had evaluated him perfectly.
  20. Assuming, bring the key part of this sentence…and did they ever update Lynn’s injury status today?
  21. 2014 was the last time they ran a relatively high (for them) payroll in the last decade.
  22. What did I write that was inaccurate today? Let’s hear it. Will be waiting with bated breath. And what posts are you noted for, exactly? I mean, honestly, the only time I notice is your taking shots at particular posters over and over again, but I suppose that’s good if you can get some likes out of it.
  23. Maybe the goal is to have no first round picks other than Anderson on the Sox active roster. Collins, Crochet, Rodon, Burdi, Madrigal, Fulmer, so AV's days are obviously numbered.
