Sox vs Sawx Game One-6:00 CT
Unless more than 50% of revenues are going towards payroll...but it's not even that close. And that's without examining the "real" books for most franchises. At least in golf, you have senior tours and now that new Saudi Arabia financed Super League as an option for Mickelson and Sergio. Because of anti-trust, it would be nearly impossible for baseball players to pull off the same.

Of course. Even the oft-injured Correa will only be out 3-5 days...whereas Vaughn is suddenly getting cortisone shots in his wrist and out for an indeterminate period of time.

How Concerned Should We Be?
How do they plan on getting Kopech therein terms of his likely innings cap? Six man rotation seems unwise barring a trade? Shutting down in the middle of season (and likely pennant race for 2-3 weeks)? Bullpen work? Just throwing on the side? Better be pretty much the opposite of the Carlos "burn him like he's a totally expendable CI on Narcos" Rodon plan.

Crazy that Wacha has gone from cannon fodder to ace after changing from the Rays to Red Sox...and Pivetta is suddenly the must win game. Meanwhile, Joe Ryan in Minnesota blossoming into a RoY candidate. Yet the Tampa keeps plugging along and hardly skips a beat despite the lineup equivalent of SFG + Wander Franco.

5/5 Games
We already got that utility spot covered for the next three seasons, unfortunately.

How Concerned Should We Be?
Interestingly not Rodon's slider anymore but his FB. Has changed so much from when he would deliberately throw in lower 90's under Cooper. And rookie Ryan up there at #9 with his fastball. He's still pitching in relative obscurity for now. Finally, only his wife thought JV would be a strong signing at what the Astros are paying him at 38. Baseball's version of Tom Brady.

Time to Sacrifice Dallas
Winder won his first start. Ober won’t be out for long. Bundy’s is Covid-related. Archer, fwiw, has pitched quite effectively but not deep into games. Paddack better than expected. And Sonny Gray can be a solid #3/4 guy at this stage of his career. Time will tell. They have an incredibly easy stretch through early June with only two games against Toronto…the rest are sub .500 clubs, mostly the A’s, Tigers and Royals on the slate. I predicted 14 over earlier, but I’ll be a bit more conservative now and back it down to 8-10 games over.500 entering the first week of June without Correa, Ober, Sano (who has been Leury levels of bad), Bundy, Arraez (Covid) as well.

That Montas scenario is going to be costly. Ramos, Montgomery and Burger…at least two from that grouping. Maybe three prospects in total, adding one mystery pitcher like a Bassitt who becomes a stud for Las Vegas in 3-4 seasons from now.

Yes, some say the same about TA7. But they are two of the most important players in the game today, both on and off the field. And Buxton went through so many struggles offensively and just staying on the field without getting hurt that it has grounded him just a little bit. If things come too easily, players tend to take things for granted. “Imaging done at the park revealed what appears to be a non-displaced fracture in his right middle finger, though the Twins are waiting on follow-up imaging and doctor's visits Friday in Minneapolis to confirm the diagnosis. This type of fracture means the break does not run through the entire bone, meaning surgery usually isn't necessary for it to heal. The 27-year-old's recovery could involve wearing a cast or splint and needing to take several weeks off to let the bone mend. In 24 games this season, Correa has collected five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI. Defensively, he seems to make athletic outs at short on an almost daily basis. And in the clubhouse, he's quickly become one of the team leaders along with center fielder Byron Buxton.” startribune.com/sports

2022 AL Central catch all thread
No team in one of the two worst divisions in baseball (AL/NL Central) should start getting so cocky unless they are at least 8-10 games over .500. By definition, the White Sox wouldn’t have caught a team at just six games over .500 even going backwards across the last four straight months of play.

“Fortunately, the worst possible news here is a non-displaced fracture, which means Correa would avoid needing surgery, but that's still a situation that will take several weeks to heal before Correa could head out on a minor-league rehab assignment to get his timing back.” Most of the estimates out there are somewhere between 2-4 weeks. Would be forcing Polanco back to a position where he has struggled…Arraez probably at second.

I think you caught him in a conundrum where Sox victories/success >>> supersedes the individual financial situation of one highly-compensated vastly underperforming player. Especially as it would be a huge blow to 2023 financial flexibility as well.
