  1. RayRay was so bold to come out and criticize the Hosmer contract, yet after after three opportunities…wouldn’t even commit to agreeing Hosmer would be benched 10 or more games. He did somehow claim to be the source of a rumor at MLBTradeRumors…yet there was another article out there from a somewhat more credible source speculating Hosmer was going to be traded. Interesting stuff. In the end, the Padres are going to go out and get at least one starting pitcher and at least one reliever. And Hosmer will neither be traded nor benched.
  2. Sean Rodriguez? The Pirates’ reliever?
  3. The same reason they didn’t with Myers, and the same reason JR and KW and Hahn kept sending Danks out there. Hoping for a rebound to previous career norms. Simple as that. If the Padres cut Tommy Pham 6 weeks into the season, or the Rangers with Gallo…they would be looking like complete idiots, right? Not to mention how will sitting a player you might be showcasing for a trade help to increase his value in any way, shape or form? It’s also the same reason we’re not benching Keuchel, for example.
  4. Because Fangraphs fWAR statistics determines everything in life. You forgot to mention how difficult it is to have a super high fWAR at 1B. For example, Mancini and Abreu are 8th and 9th at 1B in all of MLB at the position but only have 1.7 fWARs. Wow, that’s really not that impressive, a difference of just 2.1. Lo and behold, Jose Abreu is just 70th out of 137, barely an average qualified player. Ron was actually right?
  5. Once again, give me a number how many games he will be benched for over the remainder of the season if you’re so confident? Preller would have to subsidize 50-60% of his salary, and that’s just not going to happen.
  6. They’re not going to trade Hosmer, just like they didn’t trade Wil Myers when he put up MVP numbers for much of last season.
  7. Sure, pal. I’m sure they have nothing better to do than read SoxTalk for predictions about what the Padres will do. Profar=.538 OPS vs. lefties Kim=.569 OPS vs. righties Myers=.670 OPS vs. lefties Hosmer=.699 OPS vs. righties Pham also has a decided split in his numbers. Frazier, .850 vs. lefties and .830 vs. righties Conclusion=Grisham, Tatis, Machado and Cronenworth will play almost everyday from here on out, with Frazier taking or rotating time with four regulars, and Ha Seong Kim basically losing all of his playing opportunities for the remainder of this season.
  8. Seems like a daily debate in Seattle these days…
  9. Have they announced the plan between Jimenez and Vaughn yet? At least for tonight’s game?
  10. Live coverage of women’s beach handball on the Jumbotron at GRF…has to be the craziest Olympic sport ever that 98% of the population didn’t even know existed.
  11. When's the last time Gallo played third regularly?
  12. Confidence/charisma? Somehow he eventually got the key role of Monster's Ball with Halle Berry after Sling Blade.
  13. With great power comes great responsibility. Not! Editorial Note: must be done in Borat voice.
  14. https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/id/30653/craig-kimbrel Based on this, you’re talking about one game in July (last Thurs) he took the loss but no earned runs and not a blown save. He’s actually lowered his ERA from 0.59 to 0.50 this month.
  15. I’m going to need more back in return than Heuer and someone whose best case scenario is back end starter…to make it worth it to Jays’ fans. We just don’t have any stud pitchers in High A or BIRM that would be ready to pitch for the Jays next year. For me, it’s Bryant or Baez due to positional versatility and having no idea if Eloy can keep himself off the IL for the remainder of the season. Raisel Iglesias would be another big get.
  16. buddy, Cronenworth will be sitting the least of all because he’s in some ways the MVP of that team…despite lacking the star power or name recognition. SD already has one of the most high powered offenses, but they need more hitters like Frazier who are consistently reaching base. It was always Frazier >>> Profar, Kim, Myers (against tough righties) How many games will Hosmer be benched the rest of the year? You seem pretty confident, I was going to give you 8-10 but it seems like you believe it will be at least 30 or more (barring other injuries). Is that a fair summary of your position?
  17. All I know is the Padres are trying to improve their team. Simply pointing out Hosmer has 8 homers is not proof of anything, because so does Moncada. Now obviously Moncada is walking a lot more, plays better defense and normally is a better, or at least faster baserunner. There’s zero evidence they’re simply going to bench Hosmer. Who tweeted that, NSC, Al Clark Sports, Hector or the Foodies? What the Padres plan to do is use almost everyone almost everywhere. They will likely employ a different lineup every night, using players at different positions even more than they do now. Frazier has played 708 innings in left field, 230 innings in right field and 63 innings in center field in his career. All the Padres outfielders can play multiple spots. Cronenworth has started 12 games at first base. In fact, he played there in the All-Star Game, which means at some point this season the Padres will almost certainly have an all-All-Star infield with Manny Machado at third, Fernando Tatis Jr. at shortstop, Frazier at second and Cronenworth at first. And if they are sitting Hosmer, it’s to play Cronenworth at first, not Frazier. However, with righties on the mound, Myers is much likelier to be the one sitting with Frazier in right or left, depending if they want to move Pham around. Probably Frazier more if RF. Your time would be better spent arguing that Moncada should be higher than honorable mention in the FG Top 50 Trade Value list.
  18. Obviously LaRussa is not to blame for Moncada. But we’ve had two consecutive days of national attention, and not in a flattering way. Lynn and Hendriks, and, to a lesser extent, Kopech, were able to overcome Goodwin.
  19. The same reason the Yankees are not buyers…and because they might be able to get a better return for him now than letting him walk at the end of the season. Or they might think adding young pitching gives them the best shot this year and into the future. Or uncertainty about the compensation system. Semien and Hendriks didn’t get QO’s last year from Oakland, so he could get one this year…if you’re Toronto, do you really think you have enough to get past Oakland (who will certainly make a trade), NYY, Seattle, Cleveland (assuming Bieber comes back), etc. Playing in the AL East? Also depends on their revenue projections…having sacrificed attendance all season long to play in the US. The White Sox were only behind 3 1/2 for a division title in 1997…let alone a one shot WC game that’s a crapshoot just to get through to play it in the first place.
  20. Extension rejected. If Semien and Buxton are both added to the market, things get really interesting for buyers.
