    Rodon

Then betting $125 million on Giolito with lesser stuff (so far this year) and also a TJ in his distant past seems even more dubious. With Rodon, his surgery, at least, was much more recently. If Lynn’s doctoring the ball...per various anecdotal observations, that’s a huge red flag for giving him 2-3 additional seasons at his relatively advanced age. And maybe speaking out against TLR isn’t helping his case.
  2. So how much does trading one of the only marketable/recognizable players hurt the Rangers opening a new stadium vs. the potential return value in a trade? Right now, his value has cratered...no reason to sell low unless they’re desperate. Granted, Garcia has been one of the biggest surprises for them this year, along with Solak, Lowe and Kiner-Falefa. They’re more the future, offensively.
  3. Iglesias, 31 in January, has been the Reds’ primary closer for the past four seasons. He had something of a down year in 2019 but saw both his velocity and his bottom-line results rebound in 2020. This past season, Iglesias tallied 23 innings of 2.74 ERA ball with a terrific 31-to-5 K/BB ratio, eight saves and a 41.5 percent grounder rate. Since taking over the ninth inning following countryman Aroldis Chapman’s trade to the Yankees, Iglesias has been highly effective, pitching to a combined 2.95 ERA with 100 saves, 11.0 K/9, 3.0 BB/9, 1.13 HR/9 and a 37.5 percent ground-ball rate. Mlbtr.com In retrospect, the Angels would have done just as well hanging onto Hansel Robles for half the price. Just not sure what the asking price is for a player with a negative WAR number...$9,125,000 salary, would JR authorize with the amount they’re already spending on Hendriks and Bummer?
  4. Guess we’re not signing Post Malone or Bieber... https://www.whowhatwear.com/mens-jewelry/slide18 Personally, I always thought those pooka shell or bead necklaces that tons of mostly white pitchers wore in the 1990’s and early 00’s are/were just as annoying. Were they pitchers or Hawaiian/SoCal/Florida surfers? If mostly black rappers (wearing tons of gold chains) hadn’t adopted the Sox hat as their favorite over the last thirty years, almost nobody would even know about the White Sox nationally other than their hardcore regional fanbase. Obama as well. If everyone played as well as Yermin and Moncada with gold chains, we should make them part of the official team uniform if it would help Vaughn or Madrigal add another 100-150 ops points. It couldn’t make either of them much slower, right?
  5. https://www.mlb.com/padres/video/tatis-aggressive-base-running?t=t135-default-vtp https://www.mlb.com/padres/video/padres-five-run-5th OPS leaders 1. Trout 1.090 2. Vladdy Jr. 1.089 3. Winker 1.085 4. Castellanos 1.041 5. Tatis 1.029 6. Acuna 1.017 7. Bryant 1.010 8. Bogaerts 1.004
  6. It all depends on JR being willing to a absorb salary. Marte is earning $12.5 million this year. He’s also 32 years old already, and is out until the beginning of June with a fractured rib. Haniger is two years younger, and only earning $3+ million this season...plus the final arb year next season. The Mariners are going to have to clear another spot for Rodriguez later this season, since they have Lewis, Kelenic and Trammell (50/50 whether his bat plays) as their future outfield.
  7. And Canseco. Old school managers like LaRussa, Showalter, Scioscia, etc., are a dying breed in baseball especially. You can get away with that Belichick or Saban stuff in football, as long as you win. Basketball, the same transformation is happening. Players don’t want the coach from the movie Hoosiers (Norman Dale) or Bobby Knight. They want someone who is fun to play for, understands the modern athlete and lets them be themselves. In that sense, Renteria was more than adequate. The Carlton Fisks and Madison Bumgarners are disappearing...replaced by another generation with more forward thinking, incorporating analytics, fitness/nutrition and sports psychologist. Just like teachers can’t use the same lessons on the projector from the 1980’s with today’s kids that are much more visual and have lesser attention spans...if you can’t compromise and meet them halfway, to be willing to change and adapt your style or approach, you’re dead. Players will tune you out...and old school punishments rather than incentives/rewards will be met with increasing resistance across the clubhouse until you lose the team entirely.
  8. Miami is only three games back and advanced last year in the postseason. Unless we overwhelm them, where’s the incentive to make a deal? The Rangers should have more reasons to deal Gallo, but just opened a new stadium and look to be dealing DeShields for a minor piece or two first. Still like Haniger here, because he fills the need/s for the current year without impacting future Sox outfields, meaning the acquisition cost as a half season rental should be less than for Marte. Plus you have to consider the NL/AL transition as well, which also favors Haniger. While it’s possible Eaton, Robert, Jimenez, Vaughn and Engel are all part of the picture the last two months, odds of that happening are somewhere between slim and none.

  10. Nope, have to keep him as insurance for Mercedes falling off...
  11. So if the issue was dreadlocks, sagging uniform pants, hat worn at an angle...trashy? Tattoos, piercings and doo rags must really send the alarm bells ringing. What about Keuchel? He looks like a Hills Brother coffee dude mixed with an Appalachian hillbilly or Amish/Quaker/Mennonite...or Randy Quaid in the Big Lebowski. Do beards confer holiness and wisdom? Why have the Yankees banned them for ages? Not even nicely or neatly trimmed goatees. Kopech’s man bun? Trailer park trash of just expressing his individuality? Wearing the pants too low and covering up the stirrups? Lifetime ban. Pink shoes and sweatbands should result in suspensions, except on Mother’s Day and Easter and Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Mullets? Banned, except in Alabama and Mississippi. Earrings? Cut off their earlobes. Dave Bautista or Mike Tyson? Banned.
  12. If he went to Dartmouth or wherever like Kyle Hendricks and wore gold chains, then what should happen to him?
  13. Playing without Myers (Covid) and Machado (shoulder) now... Rockies all-star shortstop Trevor Story crushed his 100th career homer Friday at Coors Field against the Orioles. The blast was a mammoth shot that had some history behind it as Story is now the fastest shortstop on MLB history to 100 home runs. It took Story 448 games to accomplish the history feat. The previous mark was set by Alex Rodriguez who hammered his first 100 dingers 470 games. The only other player to get the job done in under 500 career games was Nomar Garciaparra at 491. https://www.denverpost.com/2019/05/24/trevor-story-home-runs-shortstop-100/ Would have picked Ernie Banks, A-Rod or Cal Ripken for this one. Nomar started out great and fizzled. Back in the day, it was him, Jeter and Tejada ruling the AL. Tatis’ current pace is to hit #100 in 324 games. Myers and Hosmer were clowning on him for wearing Crocs...
  14. Haniger just hit his 13th bomb...prefect fit, but the cost is going to be pretty considerable based on how he’s going now.
  15. He’s fine or at least slightly below average in RF...but definitely not a CFer, any more than Avi Garcia is.

Interestingly, Hosmer and Gallo have both won Gold Gloves.
  17. Handily...and, as my mom always asserts, don’t count your chickens before/until they’ve hatched.
  18. Just eat green apples, everything will be fine in the end. Actually, Rodon’s evolved into one of those more mature guys you don’t worry about getting distracted by outside noise.
  19. This is exactly how Iowa Hawkeye fans act when the team suffers some disappointing losses...goodbye NCAA tourney, buy out the coach who recruits like he’s in the Missouri Valley instead of Top Ten, get rid of the AD, we won’t win again, ever, or we’ll go 7-5 or 6-6 or 8-4 every season in football and never get rid of the Ferentz family. No matter what happens, we’ll run into a much more athletic team to stop us cold mo matter what preseason dreams and aspirations are bandied about.
  20. .152/.525 (5/32, three hits came in just one game) Almost dumped a single into LF but Pham made a nifty diving catch to rob him. Then a ground out to SS with two outs and two runners in scoring position.
  21. Starting to think they might need to platoon him with Eaton to get some pop in the lineup...but would ALMOST prefer Yermin in RF, haha. You just can’t risk another Achilles’ injury by playing Burgatron so far out of position IMO. All that said, we’re at least 6-8 weeks away from considering a call up. He has missed so much time. That said, something to be said for going with the hot hand, regardless of the situation/background. In summary, you just can’t move Moncada off third, even if playing Burger there makes a lot more sense than the outfield.
  22. What in the holy hell is going on with this site these days?
  23. You’re leaving out another NL team, fwiw. As far as the Mets go, Lindor definitely needs to get back to form, but they’ve also lost Conforto now and still don’t have the lockdown pen they targeted in the Kelenic trade. Of course, a Thor return is there and the Braves are doing themselves no favors, especially Huascar Ynoa pulling a Carlos Quentin. The Giants, fwiw, have salvaged the careers of Gausman, Desclafini, Aaron Sanchez and today, blast from the past Scott Kazmir...Tauchman not so much, .198 and a 617 ops. Just turned 30, which is increasingly the new 33-35 for baseball players over the last 5-7 years as the game has completely changed.
  24. #Gandhi White Sox must have let Colome go due to wearing the cap at a 15 degree angle like Sabathia. Game over at Lake Erie. CLE 1 1/2 GB. Cesar Hernandez walks off Alex Colome.
