  1. Average NFL career about 3.4 years. He's like a combination of Flutie and Vick...hes not as fast as Vick, but he's a much more accurate passer. With Mayfields success, should easily go 8~12 in first round. How much guaranteed money is that? Plus no minor leagues, buses, junk food diets, etc. He loves to be in control of everything on the field, whereas C.F. is more passive/less engaging. A' s not exactly a premiere destination, I think he eventually ends up with the Rangers because of his Texas roots.
  2. But two years less experience than Jimenez...not to mention how few games NJ high schoolers get compared to warm weather states.
  3. Somehow, I can just imagine Balta taking the time to read some of the new tax bill, at least the part that refers to professional educators and deductible expenses (past tense). That and the negative impact on charities due to donations being "less deductible" in terms of meeting their thresholds is another under-reported element of all this.
  4. Just don't be my Joe Valentine. Jose Valentin with the manly moustache would be the preferable of the two.
  5. Umm...no. I never took a shower in middle school at the school, just felt kind of weird. Seemed like only the wrestlers did that. Actually, for all we know, somebody who didn't like the kid might have just made it up to be cruel, bullying/hazing and all. He was kind of overweight and not good at sports, but the name caught on and nobody ever called by his real name after that.
  6. Much better than the boy in our middle school who supposedly was "excited" in the gym showers after PE class, earning the nickname of Boner until this day.
  7. Psychologically, this "free money" argument counted on by those expecting refunds every year is really going to percolate. Even if the actually tax paid is the same, the monthly small additional sums don't match up to the power of a huge one time refund in the way most think about it. This is really going to be damaging to Trump politically because a lot of his lower educated supporters will feel they got ripped off. Intellectually, they won't understand if they dollar cost averaged that extra money every month into a Vanguard index tracking mutual fund, the return over time will be much greater than waiting one year and dumping a large sum into the market...not to mention the people underwater from Christmas overspending and counting on being saved in February or March. It will be about as popular as Obama Care in 2010 with the upper middle class hot by the SALT caps...
  8. baseball cards spread out on the bed April rain biking to the field under a cloudless sky my glove on the handlebars empty baseball field a dandelion seed floats through the strike zone village ball game through knotholes in the old fence evening sunbeams August heat umpire and manager nose to nose after the error the player still faces the outfield towering clouds lost in the lights the high fly ball that never comes down
  9. The big thing here is deciding whether you can handle knowing you have a child alive and growing up somewhere that's a part of you? Would you still not feel responsible at all, even if you signed all parental rights away? Would you feel differently if the child was to be adopted? It's all just theoretical now, but that completely changes after birth. My gf became pregnant about 3 months into our relationship and in China you basically have to get married or the child doesn't even have the right to a government/public education. But I was in my 40s and really wanted to have a child, you probably are at a different age and also your connection to the woman and raising a child together seems impossible or inconceivable. I do think instead of running the other direction that you should keep your options more open about being a part of your future child's life, because you might end up regretting taking such an arm's length.stance in the future. With children, you have to think more with your heart than brain...imagine you were born to parents in this situation, how would you feel, what questions you'd ask and whether you would still try to meet your biological father. Things seem almost adversarial right now because of the financial side of things, but you need to think how you will reflect on.everything that's going on today ten or fifteen years into the future, especially if you don't get married or have children with someone else.
  10. All I got is if Iowa can mount a 15 point comeback with 4:32 left against NW and Missouri State can beat Illinois State like they did yesterda with the wildest play of the season....then the White Sox can sign two whales, too.
  11. Alita: Battle Angel was much better than I expected...with Lego movie disappointing, it might be the first manga movie not to disappoint, which is encouraging for the genre as a whole.
  12. I really can't see Reinsdorf making that type of commitment on two contracts until first seeing where everything sits after the 2019 season...or possibly adding another longer term commitment at the trade deadline.
  13. For the next 2~3 years it would be fine, but potentially crippling down the road (underperformance/injury/not being able to hold onto young core talent). Name a team...any team...that has successfully pulled off two simultaneous deals like this and not regretted it down the line (like the Rangers with ARod).
  14. They usually pay out somewhere between 40-60% on season-ending injuries...
  15. Moncada and Kopech had their moments when they seemed to be THE jerseys to buy. This year, Jimenez and perhaps Cease. Jimenez is beyond obvious. Then Robert would be the player whose jersey I would be most likely to buy in the future, with Madrigal as second choice.
  16. What’s the latest from Dan Clark...still hyping the Bronx Bombers? They might as well name Hector “There is A Great or Grand Possibility” Gomez the official Spanish-language reporter for the White Sox if this thing actually happens.

  18. Machado Connection...not unlike the Rainbow Connection. We have to view every move through this prism unless/until it backfires.
  19. The last two quotes made me laugh, we used to have an ultra-athletic point guard at Iowa named Brian Garner, the announcer would always say he was quicker than white on rice (when he was actually black). And Jesus of Nazareth, this whole ordeal is never-ending. Something has to happen eventually, doesn’t it?

Ozzie and Tom Kelly have a lot in common with their veterans, but it's impossible to believe Guillen and Ortiz wouldn't have gotten along well.
  22. They let David Ortiz go...that was part of my theory. They were too cheap to stick with him when he got a bit more expensive.
  23. The Twins would rank up there as well, especially the 2002~2010 version...
