  1. Rondon subbed as cleanup guy, lol. Actually hasn’t looked too bad offensively. Davidson dealing with back problems still. Seems Matt and Yolmer eventually are platoon partners at 3b with Yolmer’s extreme splits.
  2. Well, we have the combined worst bottom three hitters in White Sox history vs. the pitcher who could single-handedly have pushed us through into the playoffs had Cooper fixed him in 2012. Then, no rebuild? High drama in Motown. Another good test for Moncada against LHP.
  3. Trump's sustained attacks on American rights https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/26/politics/trump-rights-due-process-curiel/index.html If Trump's norm-shattering derision of the courts and constitutional principles has only accelerated in the past two years, public responses appear more polarized. Opponents are overwhelmingly Democratic. Trump's approval rating among Republicans remains high. There also may be fatigue. Trump is constant. His questioning Thursday of a legal process for people apprehended at the border drew scant public response. In 2017, 3 Trump properties, including Mar-a-Lago, posted 144 openings for seasonal jobs. Only one went to a US worker. Trump properties always get their fill of H-2B employees, but other US businesses have a harder time. Of course, Trump could simply raise wages at his properties and get more American applicants, you know, America first and all that, but he won't.
  4. If we had a decent fielding 1b, the game yesterday would still be going on...
  5. Already used up my ten free articles this month, lol... Behind the scenes, (Stephen) Miller is believed to be an important voice in those hardline immigration policies. In an interview with Breitbart published Thursday, Miller said: “The big fight this summer is going to be with the open borders Democratic caucus in Congress.”
  6. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2017/04/05/white-sox-dylan-covey-finally-awaits-his-major-league-debut/100092062/ He might be the best redemption story on the White Sox if he actually makes it as a big league starter...never really dug much into his background. https://www.athleticsnation.com/2016/12/8/13893100/mlb-rule-5-draft-oakland-as-dylan-covey-white-sox As someone who closely follows the A’s minor leagues, you’d think I’d be bummed about losing a prospect. However, I’m not even batting an eye at this one right now — if anything, I’m relieved that they didn’t lose RHPs Tucker Healy or Sam Bragg, who are both better prospects and closer to the bigs. It’s not that Covey isn’t a worthwhile prospect, but rather a matter of practicality and timing. I simply can’t imagine a scenario in which he lasts on an MLB roster for all of 2017, especially in a homer-happy park like Guaranteed Rate Field (lol seriously that’s its name now ... the irony would be delicious if they offered dynamic ticket pricing that constantly changes and is thus rarely if ever a “guaranteed rate”). If the now-rebuilding White Sox find a way to get value out of Covey this year, or even commit to stashing him at the back of their pen just to add a fringe prospect to the system, then a tip of the cap to them. Nothing is impossible. But even then, I currently have him as the A’s No. 36 prospect on my personal list, below 16 other starters, so the damage is minimal. If you look at it in terms of depth chart rather than total prospect value, he’s probably around 18th in line to start games in Oakland this year (but really lower, because they would pick up a Surkamp or a Detwiler like last year if things actually got that far again in 2017). I think the most likely scenario is that Covey gets hammered by MLB hitting in his first trial and he’s back in Oakland’s system by June. The next-most likely is that he doesn’t even break camp with Chicago and ends up back here after spring training. None of that precludes him being better in the future! Just not yet. I was more bummed about losing the actually MLB-ready 2B/OF Colin Walsh last winter, but he didn’t even make it to the end of June with the rebuilding Brewers before being sent back. So, to be clear, I don’t think Covey is a worthless prospect. I just think that he’s so far from being MLB-ready right now that there is nearly a zero percent chance that he sticks in 2017, which means nothing will come of this. The biggest result could be that the A’s will have a bit more breathing room for the first couple months in their already-packed Double-A rotation, while Covey gets some free MLB experience from another club. Thanks, White Sox! (Note: I’m not kidding. The rotation overflow in Nashville/Midland is an actual concern right now, and someone good will lose playing time because of it if space isn’t cleared by trades.)
  7. White Sox Scouting Report Nick Madrigal https://theloopsports.com/2018/05/21/white-sox-scouting-report-nick-madrigal/ Madrigal’s hitch causes him to miss a hittable pitch here. The Sox are not afraid of hitters with hitches in their swing as evidenced by the selection of Zack Collins (or the “arm bar” of Jake Burger, my edit) a year ago, but it is still something to be wary of. Obviously with a 65 hit tool in his pocket, the bat is his biggest strength. And his numbers show that he can be a successful hitter. The key with Madrigal will be line drives and balls through the infield, never power. If Madrigal can eliminate the hitch in his swing, or at least do something to lessen it, he should be a very good hitter. Another aspect of Madrgial’s hit tool which scouts love, is his eye and plate approach. He managed to walk significantly more than he struck out in college, and that is something that will translate to the professional level. All things considered, Madrigal’s hit tool is definitely something to be excited about.
  8. Not to mention Cease might be the best pitcher in the entire organization right now. Jeimer Candelario for Wilson/Avila isn’t looking that great, either...http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=204340. Isaac Paredes is now Detroit’s #7 prospect and their heir-apparent at SS to Jose Iglesias. Although, to be fair, where were either of them going to play for the Cubs? Also let Christian Villanueva go for nothing to the Padres.

  10. Last year, after a founder of Apollo Global Management had multiple White House meetings with Kushner, the company loaned $184 million to the Kushner family real estate firm. Similarly, shortly after Kushner met in the White House with the chief executive of Citigroup, the company lent the Kushner family real estate group and a partner $325 million. Now the Kushner family real estate business is reportedly close to entering a deal with a company linked to Qatar that could bail Kushner Cos. out of a flagship troubled property and a huge financial hole. Jared Kushner had previously sold his stake in the property involved to a trust run by his mother. Nevertheless, the Kushner family real estate business stands to lose an enormous amount of money without this bailout, and Qatar certainly knows that Kushner’s White House portfolio includes the Middle East. Meanwhile, U.S. policy towards Qatar has apparently softened after Trump originally took a hard line against the country. Are these events just coincidences, or do they involve the exchange of U.S. policy for financial benefits? The transactions create the appearance of a conflict of interest for Kushner, and through him for Trump. Here too, there is no way for the American people to know what happened behind the scenes. This is why it is so important for officials like Kushner to divest holdings that could cause conflicts and why it is so dangerous when they do not. https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-given-us-ultimate-chinese-import-american-princelings-182805997.html
  11. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher loses endorsement for saying it's OK to not sell homes to gay people https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/25/politics/dana-rohrabacher-congressman-homeowners-lgbtq-people/index.html
  12. Solo might not even hit $10 million in China this weekend. Could have done without droid and love story elements, but blame the Kasdan’s and Howard. As a heist flick, pretty decent. I was actually expecting worse.
  13. Reddy, just don’t act like this in Iowa, lol...I grew up in the Quad Cities and spent the first 22 years of my life in that state...identity politics simply don’t work there (not unlike GA or rural Western PA). Just follow everything Cheri Bustos has done and said on the other side of the Mississippi. Or the South Bend mayor, if an openly gay man can win elections in rural Indiana, he’s doing SOMETHING correctly, yes? Fwiw, the (old) district I lived in had one of the most popular (and centrist or left-leaning) Republican representatives in Jim Leach that you could ever find in the Heartland. But remember it’s the state of Grassley, Branstad, Steve King and one of the toughest proposed abortion laws in the country...and one of the biggest states for born-again/evangelical Christians, especially for that region of the country.
  14. Rutherford’s back in action tonight...
  15. Woudn’t we have said the same thing about his Republican primary opponents in 2016? Combating a sitting president like Trump is something the Dems (and no American political party) has ever fully contemplated...someone who has no moral/ethical compass, who panders to his own base and deliberately tries to divide the country (Nixon is the closest modern example, but even that doesn’t stand up to close scrutiny)...who constantly changes positions and who sucks up all the airtime because he draws ratings and makes the media immense profits. Right now, Biden’s the only one capable of beating him. None of the early Dem favorites like Gillibrand, Booker, Harris, etc., have yet been able to emerge was as the obvious “hot” choice like Obama already was in 2005/06 (dating back to his Dem.Convention speech). You can identify as many followers for Kennedy as for Garcetti or even the Mayor of South Bend, Indiana. Plus this current fracture between the progressives/pragmatists, and uncertainty over what Sanders/Warren will do, and who is the “heir apparent” to take up their cause of the younger generation. Odds are the country will go into a recession (based on 2-3 economic cycles of QE/easy money) due to inflation fears and interest rate rises, higher gas prices, slightly higher wages and then the overhang of numerous Americans paying significantly more for their health care insurance (and Trump’s complete failure to fix it as promised). Who knows where immigration and gun control are as issues at that point...but I’d still say the odds rest with the Dem’s over Trump winning another election, if for no other reason than so many Hispanic and African-American voters will be motivated to get out to the polls this time out...and so many older Americans are afraid to lose their SS/Medicare/Medicaid due to the GOP Congress. Finally, the fact that Trump’s been relatively lucky so far with his foreign policy blunders not blowing up the world (YET).
  16. Contreras and El Duque age rumors...but not sure how that connects to Abreu.
  17. What pitcher that we actually signed/drafted have we done so great with? After Sale...there’s Hansen? Gio Gonzalez? It always seems we do better acquiring or claiming pitching from outside the organization. Can’t even declare a Rodon a total success story yet, either.
  18. I think “deliver AL for the Dems” was 90-95% based on the fact Moore is a pedophile lunatic...any halfway normal GOP candidate and they lose quite handily. Just like Ossof should win most of the time under the conditions he ran in...Dems finally learned this hard lesson not to weigh in and let it be a “local race” with Lamb. That was the only really impressive win, nevertheless, Saccone lost twice now this year and was also a poor fundraiser/campaigner.
  19. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/white-sox-sent-down-carson-223246025.html Differences between Fulmer/Giolito, why Renteria and Sox believe that Lucas needs to stay (for now) at the big league level and work through his difficulties...guess it can't get much worse, right?
  20. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/23598602/mlb-real-not-al-central-worst-division-1994 AL Central the worst individual division in baseball since 1994....yikes (that's when the White Sox should have won the World Series, if the season had actually been allowed to play out)
  21. The only thing I DON'T get is why even weigh in when she realistically DOESN'T have a shot? That will just make it seem, once again, that the establishment is interfering/tipping the balance in one way or another. Hillary endorsing is one thing, but Perez doesn't need to get involved...or why does he feel the need, is the question? https://www.amny.com/news/elections/new-york-governor-race-1.17681878 The race for New York governor is picking up steam, as a new poll released Wednesday shows incumbent Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo with a commanding lead over the competition. According to the Quinnipiac University Poll, 50 percent of New Yorkers surveyed would vote for Cuomo over Democratic primary challenger Cynthia Nixon. The actress and education advocate from Manhattan garnered 28 percent of votes from those polled, with 22 percent abstaining. "Actress Cynthia Nixon is a nuisance to Gov. Andrew Cuomo as he seeks a third term, but at this stage she is not running strong enough to make either the Democratic primary or general election challenge successful,” Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said.
  22. Ruffcorn was never considered to be the Top RH pitching prospect in all of MLB...maybe even the top pitching prospect in the game. He was a fairly high pick, but nothing like the expectations for Giolito 2-3 years ago.
  23. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/trump-nfl-protesters-maybe-shouldnt-country-114402328.html Trump deliberately trying to flame more racial/immigration tensions over Kapaernick and Reid...apparently because he needs to shift the story from the failure of the North Korean negotiations. As the article notes, even a 1st grader understands you can't "throw someone out of the country" for exercising their 1st Amendment rights. Imagine if Obama said gun owners should be thrown out of the country because that particular amendment doesn't cover assault weapons.
