  1. Then why are the typically "happiest" societies the ones where there are much higher tax rates than the US, much stronger workers' rights, better health care (both outcomes and affordability), better education (outcomes and spending per pupil), less income inequality or wealth disparity, etc.? The usual list of countries here like Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Canada, as well as Australia and NZ.
  2. Called it, Sheets homer before one from Bat Boy Engel. Vizquel trying to shake this line-up out of the doldrums by putting hitters who are usually at the bottom like Forbes and Remillard at the top 2 spots.
  3. I'm not sure it's THAT clear...because we're running out of credible possibilities to give those at-bats to on the major league roster. Cordell? Davidson and Yolmer are getting plenty of opportunities so far this year. It's not going to be Kevan Smith, for example. You can glimpse really hard and see Zavala in August/September, but that would skip him quickly through AAA. And $20 million (rest of his contract, roughly) isn't going to matter much when you're talking guys like Machado, Harper and Arenado.
  4. Yes, I wrote that all of 4-5 times, 6 weeks ago. Let chaos and confusion reign! The fact of the matter is Robert hasn’t been playing for weeks. If he had been listed in the minors reports every night like The Besssss, or Lamantha, no confusion.
  5. You had a great opportunity for a “like” here but blew it by not mentioning it should be a three way deal with Puig, Ohtani...and, wait for it, Tatis, Jr. Shook.
  6. With Kopech, pitch count is much more relevant than total innings pitched at this point....
  7. Hope they don’t read SoxTalk or we will get added to the three pending lawsuit/s...
  8. It also happens in India...and even Indian-American couples who never meet until wedding day and later study for advanced degrees far away from each other. Pakistan, much more common.
  9. How can he get 25 more starts if we’re looking at an innings pitched limit in the 160-175 range for this year?
  10. https://www.blessyouboys.com/2018/5/18/17359544/mlb-draft-2018-casey-mize-detroit-tigers-joey-bart-alex-faedo Why Mize still goes #1 to Tigers
  11. Unless you got all the other owners to take a similar pledge (opening yourself up to collusion charges for limiting players’ potential earnings)...you would put yourself at a huge competitive disadvantage. It would be like if teams refused to ever give player options in their FA contracts or never worked with Scott Boras clients.
  12. Michael Cohen and this Broidy sleaze (gave $1 million in kickbacks to officials connected to the NY Lottery in return for tens of millions in consulting/financial management fees) namedrop more than Farmer and Michael Milken when he’s on the Sox radio broadcast pushing for prostate cancer donations...
  13. We need to restore Asche, Adam Engel as “The Batboy” and Jacob May to the SoxTalk Banner until we are no longer the worst team in the majors (well, technically it’s the Royals, but we still have the lowest winning percentage)...also, can probably throw Trayce Thompson onto Mount Soxmore to give you four illustrious personages to carve into the mountain.
  14. Rizzo 2011 MILB Rank #75 2012 MILB Rank #47 A better comparison would be Reynaldo Lopez, in terms of prospect rankings...just because Rizzo has NOW become one of the best 1B in the major leagues over the last 3-4 years (well, this year he’s off to a disappointing start), we can’t go back with revisionist history and turn him into a “can’t miss” guy in the Top 5-10. And it is sort of weird that a team with all the financial resources in the world was lauded for holding Bryant back when he was clearly ready for the big leagues...but we’re expected to push our guys up on some imaginary timetable because? We’re much LESS likely to have the ability to keep multiple superstars in the long-term, so we should therefore do the opposite of the Cubs nonetheless...but why? This season is lost already. Is it really going to push Machado or Bryant over the edge to sign with us? Fan service?
  15. Wouldn’t that open up the press and/or government to all kinds of lawsuits if another shooting/attack happened (and all the information about previous attacks/methodology was suppressed) and it became clear that a way to prevent that attack that took place could have been put in place if not for making the information from it being made “confidential”? Or would they simply have to change the 1st Amendment in order to accomplish this (prohibiting media coverage) in the name of public interest? To me, it still flies in the face of the reason often given for studying history or publicizing an event...that such history gives us a way to study, prepare and prevent another attack using the information already learning and bringing resources to bear on the problem. If they did such a thing, wouldn’t it also open up tons of loopholes where government/politicians could argue something was “too dangerous” for the public to be made aware of...seems like a huge can of worms.

  17. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/white-sox/rick-renteria-issues-another-benching-after-welington-castillo-doesnt-hustle-popup Detailed set of quotes from Renteria about the decision to bench Welington Castillo and why it had to be made
  18. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/05/21/bernie-sanders-democrats-2018-599331 Bernie's Army in Disarray Numerous problems dogging Our Revolution, including controversial leadership from current leader Nina Turner, their endorsement process (or lack thereof), spotty election record/failure to get involved in a number of races and accusations of hostile attitude/s toward Hispanics and immigration
  19. Benetti has already made his in-joke about how another year with Yolmer's Mickey Mouse ears and Melky's antics would be quite entertaining for the rebuild fans.
  20. The number of "positives" underneath where it says "Members" to the left. You're at +47. (Well, we don't have any "negative" votes or things would get A LOT more testy around here, especially in FILIBUSTER.) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?/topmembers/&filter=pp_reputation_points That's rarefied air up there.
  21. https://sports.yahoo.com/10-degrees-story-jordan-hicks-105-1-mph-maybe-hardest-pitch-ever-thrown-065519889.html Every selling team would do backflips for him, just as they did when the Cubs last season made … 6. Eloy Jimenez available. He went to the Chicago White Sox last season as the centerpiece of the Jose Quintana trade, and all he’s done since is hit and cement himself as the best prospect in the minor leagues, non-Vlad division. With a 6-for-7 weekend, the 21-year-old Jimenez bumped his season line at Double-A to .331/.364/.595, and though his arrival on the South Side is not imminent, the White Sox’s current corner-outfield duo of Leury Garcia and Daniel Palka isn’t exactly standing in the way of his arrival. The White Sox have scored the second-fewest runs in the big leagues. At the same time, their general awfulness doesn’t scream for a Jimenez promotion. They’re bad. They’re going to continue to be bad. A bad team’s desire to shelve a player past the Super 2 deadline is prudent. Once that passes within the next two weeks, of course, the reasons for keeping a player like Jimenez down tend to erode. He’s ready to do what … 7. Gleyber Torres, his classmate in the Cubs’ boffo international signing class of 2013, already has done: prove himself more than worthy of an everyday big league job
  22. http://www.tankathon.com/mlb The Royals and White Sox are not exactly lighting a fire under their respective fanbases. The only positive is they're not going to have to trade away their franchise player in the middle of the year...but at least that gives "rebuilding" fans in Baltimore SOMETHING to get excited about.
  23. Jon Adkins and his 98 MPH heat and Giolito/Fulmer-esque ERA in AAA... At least Felix Diaz pitched one decent game against the Cubs!
  24. Playing for a tie when you're 13-30, have just won 3/4 (after not winning two games in a row for AGES) and playing one of the 3-4 worst teams in MLB is just asinine. Shows zero confidence in your hitters to get the job done. In front of a home crowd who just witnessed the 2nd/3rd no outs debacle and a player getting pulled for apathy/indifference. (And yeah, Fathom's point about pulling Thompson for Palka there defensively was dead-on as well...it wasn't a tie game or 1-2 run lead)
  25. Something's gotta give with the managing...if you can't get your players to hustle (unless they're injured or coming back from injuries like Moncada), then they need to try someone else. The one thing you should be able to guarantee in professional sports is playing the game to best of your ability at all times. Lose because of talent, not effort.
