Passan analyzes 2018-19 FA class, Harper vs. Machado
https://670thescore.radio.com/media/audio-channel/mully-hanley-jason-mcleod-brad-biggs-rick-hahn-interviews-hour-4 Roughly 25 min mark...35 mins addresses FA possibilities. Seems Fathom overreacted a bit here. Typical Hahnspeak If anything, while the record is worse than most predicted, the key parts of the rebuild are all acquitting themselves well. Rodon’s back. We can’t say that Giolito/Fulmer and now Moncada struggling should keep them from investing wisely beginning this offseason...any more than we should count on Lopez, Fry, Davidson, SANCHEZ, Covey and Palka. To me, Anderson solidifying his spot might be the most important development of all so far. Not to mention 6-8 “impact arrivals” from the minor leagues between now and 2020. We can’t afford to wait back until after 2019 and suddenly hope to compete without laying part of the foundation in this year’s class.

Even if ALL SEVEN million families affected by ACA (NOT getting subsidies, rates rising dramatically in the indendent pools)...voted against the DEMS, you’re going to have tens of millions of families on the other side of the equation that will be losing coverage altogether due to affordability concerns, buying “cheap/no frills” policies they only find out later don’t really cover anything and then ALL those Americans with pre-existing conditions who are going to be infuriated to see their coverage denied OR rates rising 50-100% per year (if they’re lucky)...that’s the most popular piece of the ACA (along with parents keeping kids up to 25 or 26 on their family plans), and it’s going to be used as a cudgel over the head of the GOP in November. And don’t think all those getting bonuses or small tax cuts (mostly middle class/upper middle class) aren’t all going to blame the Administration when their gas prices continue to increase because of global instability (that’s partially American-induced), and that consumers are going to be happy to be paying 25-50% higher costs for any good made with steel/aluminum. Iowa soybean and pork farmers aren’t going to be fooled this time around when their markets have been lost to the Brazilians or Canadians.

You’re making the point about progressives feeling marginalized or used by the party by dismissing it out of hand. Just like Trump says the “real news” never gets out there about all the good he’s doing...a lot of the “behind the scenes/cigar-filled back rooms with white men only” important decisions on candidates are made NOT BY THE DEM PRIMARY VOTERS but ahead of time by the DCCC. The article argues that the likes of Schumer and Emanuel winning elections...like 2006 in the case of Raha...has been followed up by all of those elected from that particular freshman class being wiped out later on (because many Dem’s are either sitting out those elections/disinterested in supporting moderate/centrist candidates), in this case the 2012 Tea Party wave election.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
No Betts and JD Martinez, that makes a HUGE difference to their offense. Other than Benintendi, Bogaerts and Moreland, that BOS line-up without those two is a bit weak, especially with Swihart and Leon both in there. Not to mention Bradley Jr.’s been total garbage.

Where’s J4L to rationalize this one? Probably will blame officials and JR Smith...or the Cavs’ front office.

Dylan Covey
The way I look at it is if Cease busts out as a starter...that pretty much cancels out the bad Fulmer pick. As long as those two for one’s or three for one’s (Basabe/Kopech/Moncada) pay off, things will work out. Not even counting on or expecting much from Giolito at this point, but Lopez/Dunning are looking very good so far as well. Without that HUGE injection of outside pitching talent...this rebuild would seem pretty darned bleak. But now we’re going to have TWO Dylan C’s in one rotation, pretty cool! DC Squared. 2DC or DC2. Someone can come up with a more clever nickname later on. “Interesting kid," said White Sox general manager Rick Hahn of Covey. "Up to 95 with some sink. Four-pitch mix. Obviously he's not a finished product but we think he has a chance to compete for a spot in our bullpen, or possibly even in the rotation. "Long term, he has starter potential and we'll just have to wait and see how he looks when he gets to Glendale, [Ariz.]. But interesting arm, and we're interested in adding as much talent as we can to the organization. The Rule 5 Draft is another avenue to do that." https://www.mlb.com/news/white-sox-add-dylan-covey-in-rule-5-draft/c-210673324

Dylan Covey
Comments: Covey entered the 2010 Draft season as one of the top prep arms in the class and his first showing at the UYA showcase did nothing to hurt his standing. He'd shown more fastball in the past, but no one doubted that would be there once the spring got going. His plus curve was working well, and he even showed the changeup a bit. It was a good start for Covey, who could very well be one of the top high school pitchers taken on Draft Day. Enhanced Scouting Report http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/draft/y2010/drafttracker.jsp Source: MLB.com (this is from the initial 1st round analysis of the 2010 draft) Christian Colon, haha? Skole’s brother was right in the mix (check out the comments on him), along with another SALE. Also didn’t realize DeShields Jr. was selected by the Astros so high in the 1st. Finally, guess the A’s feel (a little bit) better about losing Covey with Frankie Montas being 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA...of course, he’s got to do more than beat the Royals to convince anyone he’s for real, but his slider looks really nasty now.

6/8 games
Robert will be fine in the SALLY League...where to watch the K’s will eventually be Winston-Salem, AFL and Birmingham. With so much rust due to inactivity over the last 2 years (immigration process, lots of BP/camp showcases but not much live pitching, just brief stay in the DSL in 2017) it’s going to take until he gets a full season in 2019 to see what we really have.

He wouldn’t have made contact to the right side on a 99 MPH fastball veering inside...to move the runner over to 3rd.
-
Our Sox vs Their Sox Game Thread
Got away with it, but should have shifted to Yolmer defensively with the lead...Rondon has almost no experience playing 3rd, let alone in such a hostile environment as Fenway.

Covey ERA down to 2.4 Not overthrowing, lots of movement on his FB, seems very comfortable out there...in a great rhythm.

**President Trump 2018 Thread**
Trump clearly believes he’s being “tough” with these other countries, and protecting American jobs, with his ineptly-designed tariffs. In fact, he’s putting many more jobs in other industries at risk. A report released this week by the Trade Partnership, a consulting and research firm, estimated that the ratio of jobs lost to jobs gained from Trump’s trade actions will be about 16 to 1: 26,280 steel and aluminum jobs gained, compared with 432,747 jobs eliminated throughout the rest of the economy. And that’s presumably not even counting any of the hundreds of jobs now held by Trump’s fellow Republicans on Capitol Hill. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/trump-is-waging-a-trade-war-in-the-dumbest-way-possible/2018/06/07/88a2d302-6a96-11e8-bf8c-f9ed2e672adf_story.html?utm_term=.2abbab7048a8

How do the newly drafted players fit into the white sox top prospect list?
He’s really going to be challenged to hold CF...foot speed is closer to Yolmer than Moncada, and his arm is also below-average. Reminiscent of a more athletic Jeff Abbott.
