OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
The ONLY thing I can tell you about that Greg is that if you helped your parent/s invest their money wisely....there should be around $1-1.5 million to work with at this late/r point in their lives. They can't force that older person to sell their house...or it's a complicated process in many states to go after those assets before Medicaid will kick in. At any rate, if you have a pension/partial pension and some SS, the money generated there (let's say $2-3K per month) combined with a nest egg of $1 million would be creating another $50,000 (pre-tax), which is basically enough to meet assisted living care costs in most parts (not the coasts) without touching that principal of $1-1.5 million. Now I realize that's not possible for every family...but the fact of the matter is that it's not hard, you don't even have to have a combined household income of over $50,000 if you invest your money into the VFINX (Vanguard 500 Index) every month or year (or Berkshire Hathaway B Shares) and let compounding work in your favor. Of course, if we privatized Social Security and everyone started Medical Savings Accounts, I'm curious how many Americans would end up losing all their money or withdrawing it earlier for emergencies....the government programs basically exist to protect the greatest number of Americans from themselves (their poor decisions about finances/debt/spending.)

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
I LOVE Hostetler. It's Buddy Bell that I couldn't stand...well, I think that's a pretty universally-shared opinion of all but a few around here, at least the last 2-3 years he was hanging around.

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
Waiting for Hostetler to list a number of those low-risk/high-reward pitchers in the Rounds #11-15 range as all potentially having first round stuff/closer potential...

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
Yeah, pure hitters like Ichiro, Olerud, Boggs and Gwynn really stand out over the last couple of generations of players. Biggio is another good comparison. The first name that came to my mind was Tommy Herr, athough Madrigal's much faster. Mauer, too.

White Sox select Nick Madrigal with 4th overall pick
His OSU coach said the Reds were set to take him (over India) had the pick gone past the Sox...

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
So much for this series...yet people around the country seem to be watching at normal/ratings high numbers, or close to it. Crickets here though. Not much to be said. Where does Lebron eventually end up? Philly? Boston (would have to deal Brown/Hayward/Irving)? Houston? LAL? San Antonio? Back to Cleve?

How do the newly drafted players fit into the white sox top prospect list?
Cease should be above Dunning based on +upside/TOR potential...might even have him over Hansen as of this exact moment in time.

2018 AL Central catch all thread
The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Elvis Luciano and left-handed pitcher Gabe Speier from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for outfielder Jon Jay. Luciano will be assigned to the Burlington Royals (Rookie), while Speier will be assigned to Northwest Arkansas (AA).

How do the newly drafted players fit into the white sox top prospect list?
Hansen can't be ranked ahead of them because he hasn't proven that he will even pitch this year in a regular MILB game...and I'd have Cease in that list as well, ahead of Dunning.

6/6- White Sox at Twins, 7:10
The funny thing is that Smith was much better offensively, but the overall fWAR numbers were way to the advantage of Omar last year, I think he ended up around 1.5 or so?

If Renteria doesn't even go out there and at least speak up...he needs to be replaced at the end of this season. It might be the case already.

WHAT THE _______????????????? That was also out of the strike zone, just not as egregious as the SECOND strikeout.

Moncada should just flail away at the first pitch even if 3 feet outside to make a point...

2018 Democrats thread
This is exactly the point of the "starve the government" philosophy. See Ryan, Paul. He has been waiting for this moment since the 1980 election of Reagan. Here's how it goes: Appoint directors at HUD, Energy, Education, Interior, State....who want to eviscerate their departments. Then you can claim.....well, we don't want to burden future generations with $21+ trillion in debt....and we simply can't afford to cut ANY military spending, so, what do we chop off? Foreign Aid Head Start Medicaid (just "block grant" everything, let the states go bankrupt) Vocational/training/GED programs Social Security must be pared back, withholding increased or retirement age bumped up yet again Health insurance (see Social Security above, can't afford it...let's stay with our private solution, the Top 20% can keep their own doctor and everyone else is basically screwed) Infrastructure...well, we can basically tax the people twice by using partial Federal money with state matches then turn around and tack on use fees, tolls for highways and bridge crossings, tax the delivery trucks for Amazon at 10X the normal rate because Bezos is EVIL EVIL EVIL, bad bad guy, trust me Quality/affordable daycare....FORGET ABOUT IT!!! Meanwhile, we can put ex-soldiers or extra police at every door/exit at every school in America (who pays? who cares!!! just not the Federal government)...turn lots more Federal prisons into "for profit" enterprises for warehousing all these illegal immigrants and separate detention centers (when we're not losing track of 1,500 kids) for the dependent children....if we separate them, then we can have TWICE as many for-profit detention centers, WIN WIN!!!

https://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/nothing-but-positives-about-white-sox-38th-round-pick-matt-klug/ Well, who says there aren't any uplifting, feel good stories in sports these days? Liking Hostetler more and more everyday. “[Losing my parents] kept me humbled. You know how valuable every day of life is.” White Sox scout Kevin Burrell suggested the selection of Klug, who was drafted in the same round as Mark Buehrle in 1998. While Klug won’t actually sign and play, his selection has been in the works for weeks. “I was on a plane reading an article [about Klug], and it really struck a chord with me,” Sox scouting director Nick Hostetler said. “Kevin was fully on board and we wanted to make sure it was something Matthew would be encouraged by. To do something to help a kid who has been through what he has, you’re proud you can do it.” When Burrell called Wednesday to tell him he had been drafted, Klug broke down in tears. “I was speechless,” said Klug, who will get a jersey and other gifts from the Sox. “My coach knew it for about a month. What I’ve gone through, it just meant everything to me.”

We've been talking A LOT about players declining at age 33-35, but Zobrist's putting up an 840 OPS, fwiw...granted, he's benefiting from getting the best possible match-ups with opposing pitchers, but worth noting there are anomalies out there. Meanwhile, Q's outdueling Aaron Nola...didn't see that one coming. ERA almost back below 4.

6/6 Games
Basabe's almost 22....time to see whether he can handle AA. Would expect an average in the .220's or .230's out of him for those first couple of months before he can make adjustments.
