  1. All we need to win the division is Chris Sale back, lol. With the Robert signing and this game, it certainly doesn't feel like a 4 and 5-13 stretch. Lots of close losses and late comebacks. Abreu just missed hitting two more homers tonight.
  2. By my count, we've moved from 23rd to 16th in MLB runs scored. Passed Boston, even...per game avg.
  3. Jesus. This is insane. Willy Garcia got all of that one. Final member of the regular lineup to get a hit. He crushed that sac fly to CF earlier in the game but right at Dyson.
  4. Jean Segura looks like an MVP candidate...two years ago, he was almost out of baseball. Traded twice. A little reminiscent of Juan Uribe's second half career comeback.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 20, 2017 -> 09:45 PM) From Bleacher Report: "He's like Yasiel Puig, Gurriel said, but with better ability to play center field. He's like Adam Jones or Mike Cameron, scouts said, except with a bigger, stronger body at a young age. He's Jorge Soler but with better speed and a lesser arm." Alex Rios with better speed...Mike Cameron, Devon White or Eric Davis. Totally different body type than Soler and Puig. Another pretty interesting thought from a Cards board (gatewayredbirds) I know it's the internet so it's important to be a smart ass instead of actually discussing, but let's take a look at some things. Outsiders know two things about St. Louis right now. The Arch and Ferguson. If you know baseball you know the Cardinals and you might know the Rams left. Meanwhile in Chicago you have a world class city. Literally one of the worlds great centers of population. This isn't just about baseball players though, I go back to a few years ago when my late gf's company was looking for a new world HQ. The finalists were Chicago and St. Louis, but really St. Louis was never in the running, they were just using it to leverage tax breaks in Chicago. No one was pushing for St. Louis because if you are rich, which all the execs were you wanted to live in world class Chicago. It's not hard to imagine baseball players thinking the same. A few years ago St. Louis as a baseball town had a mystique. One of the best players in the game was here, one of the best managers ever, and the organization was on fire. Flash forward and while the team still wins, sorta, the great player and manager have long found homes elsewhere. There have been rumblings of something amiss at the top and that players of a certain color do not feel welcome here. That may be not true, but the rumors are there. All that's left is this wholesome best fans image that's been eroded by the media and some not so best fans. It's not at all out of the realm of possibility that any player looking at the two cities would not want to make St. Louis home. I'm not saying that's what happened here, but if it comes out that the Cards did in fact put in the better offer it certainly seems like those factors could be true. Someone else mentioned state tax rates in Missouri and Illinois...
  6. 1.004 ops 6 rbi's with at least two more at-bats coming... 32 homers, 136 RBI pace
  7. More lines drives in this game than the entire 5-13 stretch since starting 13-9 and briefly taking first place.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 20, 2017 -> 09:01 PM) just need to ditch todd then you can find 20 odd PA a week for Sanchez at 2B/3B, Sally is the odd man out in the IF at the moment. Who would have thought Davidson and even Leury Garcia would pass him?
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 20, 2017 -> 08:59 PM) I still say CF He supposedly likes 2b and was never comfortable at third. He has to prove he can't handle the position before they consider moving him.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 20, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) The fact Avi nodded to the poster on here last night makes him one of my faves. Avi Garcia deserves credit no matter what happens the rest of the season. He's already had seven good weeks. People should be on the Avi bandwagon. If one of our young prospects was doing this, people would be having fits of joy. Avi baby! He's one of our best players so do you trade him? We traded Sale. We're gonna trade Q. He is our every day player version of those guys. You can't even think about it unless he does this for two more months and someone offers a Top 25 MLB prospect or a struggling stud like Rougned Odor with longer team control. Also depends on how the White Sox feel about competing in 2019, and if they want to move him to 1b/DH and give him a contract extension.
  11. http://www.espn.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/...nded/order/true Blown saves by team. Lots of trade candidates for Robertson, Jones, Swarzak. All Steverson had to do is tell them to hit line drives in BP according to DJ, lol. Why didn't he come up with this about three years ago?
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ May 20, 2017 -> 08:42 PM) Mets are trying not to blow a big 9th inning lead. Reed just walked in a run. Trout gonna Trout? Sac fly, 7-5. Still two more chances. Mets, Nats, Cardinals...who else needs bullpen help?
  13. Almora has too high a risk that he simply turns into a really excellent fourth outfielder....he can't be the second piece.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 20, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) Boston keeps scouting him it seems like They need Q just as much....Sale and baling wire/duct tape are holding that rotation together. Rodriguez has gone from a big ? To their #2. They can't make the postseason without Price.
  15. Garcia's ops back up to 965. 18th in MLB. Career ops 718. Yeah, should be two years. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/03/make...ail-garcia.html
  16. Will just start thinking of Davidson as Adam Dunn minus the huge salary...
  17. .238 MLB average on groundballs .205 fly balls .600+ line drives, especially up the middle. Interesting stat. At least Frazier increased his batting average there. Steverson Extension.
  18. Viva Zapata!!! White Sox have the most Hispanic talent in MLB...all of a sudden. Poor Q. Run support never comes his way.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Today, May 20th... shall forever be known moving forward as, Luis Robert day. That sounds almost like Bastille Day if you go with the French pronunciation of Louis Robert Moiran.
  20. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colum...column,amp.html Paul Sullivan article, usually 100% pro-Cub but praising Sox here
  21. https://mobile.twitter.com/dgoold/status/866064633299382282 https://mobile.twitter.com/dgoold/status/866011130564575233 Cardinals' beat writer Derrick Goold Also refers to frustration with losing Heyward, Lackey, Price, etc.
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ May 20, 2017 -> 06:05 PM) Caulfield. In my eyes you have become THE play by play man for White Sox ML baseball. You're cracking me up tonight, man. Good stuff. It has been 8 years since the Sox minor leagues were a fun follow...and then the 1998-2001 cycle before that. Fun time to be a Sox fan, especially with Cleveland not looking as dominant as imagined and KC falling apart. Detroit is done. Minnesota and Indians will be the long and short term competition. Indians will run out of money to hold the payroll together eventually.
  23. Cardinals fans are the ones who are really shook the most for now. I think we have to realize that elite talent doesn't want to play in St Louis. Let's be honest St Louis kinda sucks. It's possible the manager and front office are not liked either. Then you factor in the potential for endorsements. St Louis will never compete with that potential to NY, Chicago, LA, and Boston. I'll reserve judgement til I find out how much more St Louis offered, so I hope it's just the money. Maybe the Cardinals ought to ask the city to be a bit less filthy and run-down, that might be the thing that spurs development in the north of the city. Obviously nothing the Cards can really do about the City and its rep so it has to work on the perception of the organization. Or the reality of the organization. It's not unreasonable to think that someone alien to this country might for a few dollars (relatively) less would choose to play somewhere more comfortable with a stronger Latin presence- albeit not particularly Cuban. From gatewayredbirds.com http://gatewayredbirds.com/forum/viewtopic...20&start=90 Almost feel sorry for them. Almost. But nah.
