  1. The White Sox almost signed that meatball throwing pitcher for $125 million two years ago....how soon they forget. He's got a very solid ERA. Sometimes, movement and location are MUCH more important than velocity. The Yankees should know, Eovaldi and Pineda both can throw hard but no idea where it's going usually.
  2. KevAn Smith...isn't he still out? Yep, 7 DAY DL. The defense-first catcher we just acquired from the Astros, but that might not help so much with our offense still 10th-11th in the AL in most categories, despite scoring runs at a higher clip more recently. http://www.scout.com/mlb/rumors/story/1683...or-league-depth It's not going to be Gonzalez, his hitting stats are atrocious even for AA. Omar Narvaez? http://www.milb.com/roster/index.jsp?sid=t494 Can't imagine it would be Rottino or O'Connell. Hector Sanchez is gone, right? Dowdy and Gonzalez in AA. Not realistic options. Once again, White Sox minor league depth issues getting exposed.
  3. Just seems that things are getting stale with Cooper. Rodon seems to have hit a wall. Fulmer has struggled for major stretches. Adams' velocity is down significantly, as are his strikeouts. Sometimes you outsmart everyone (see Chris Sale), but that's not necessarily an indicator of future success (turning projected relievers into starters), just as Anderson's success doesn't mean the White Sox can't ever develop position prospects despite a decades-long struggle in that area. The White Sox do take more pitching risks than other organizations. I do feel a lot of Cooper's reputation (recently) is based on Jose Quintana, and he's about as conventional/textbook as you get mechanically for a lefty. There weren't any major alterations with him from Day 1 (like they're currently going through w/ both Fulmer and Adams). Still, Jordan Stephens is another ray of hope. These almost always pop up on the pitching side, where they have great development people (who have obviously also worked with Cooper for many years, the guys like Hasler, Burns and Perdew).
  4. http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2016/7/5/12094...eadline-preview Comprehensive trade deadline analysis. Despite putting some hope on the field this season, Hahn's efforts seem disappointing at best for a fourth straight season. That doesn't mean the team couldn't turn it around however, though it would take some substantial moves. Those arrows just might not be in Hahn's quiver anymore. To worsen matters, the White Sox's run differential is in the negative and suggests a win-loss record closer to 41-42. But the trade deadline is less about doom and gloom and more about making bold moves, granting hope, and overcoming adversity. CONCLUSION: While the White Sox seemed poise to purchase at the deadline, staying put could also be an option. The addition of Morneau could help what ails them. Morneau just began a rehab assignment on his way back from a series of concussions that nearly forced his retirement. Further, Austin Jackson could help the outfield down the stretch, but that seems to be only in long-term plans and might not be worth waiting around for. Instead, the White Sox could use some of their prospect depth to help now. Carson Fulmer is their best remaining prospect and is likely untouchable. Their other top-100 prospect, Anderson, has made himself entirely indispensable on the major league roster. The White Sox could still use some of their shallow farm to improve their bench situation though.
  5. I'm guessing Mukasey is a Republican and served under a Bush...? In June 2003, Democratic New York Senator Charles Schumer submitted Mukasey's name, along with four other Republicans or Republican appointees, as a suggestion for Bush to consider for nomination to the Supreme Court.[22] On October 14, 2004, citing U.S. Supreme Court precedent, Mukasey reversed his September 2002 decision and dismissed a case in which plaintiffs in twenty consolidated actions sued the Italian insurance company Generali S.p.A. (Generali), seeking damages for nonpayment of insurance proceeds to beneficiaries of policies purchased by Holocaust victims before the end of World War II.[23] In so ruling, Mukasey gave deference to "a federal executive branch policy favoring voluntary resolution of Holocaust-era insurance claims."[24] He was also a Rudy Guiliani supporter. Hmmm....no agenda. 81st United States Attorney General In office November 9, 2007 – January 20, 2009 President George W. Bush Preceded by Alberto Gonzales

  7. We're also managing to up Carlos Beltran's trade value, haha. All-Star Carlos Beltran, future HoF, etc. 20 hits. Not easy to give up that many.

  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 09:00 PM) Caulfield, what? There were also a number of concerns about Fulmer and Danish having the ability to make it to the big leagues as starters when they were drafted. Sale, Fulmer and Burdi...all quite obviously (of course, Tyler was a lesser draft choice). Just wonder how many times they can go against the grain or conventional scouting wisdom??? Even Rodon has lots of mechanical issues that PTAC has been on top of since the first moment he was drafted, and which have proved to be pretty prophetic (so far).
  10. You'd have to trade Q/Eaton and at least one more major piece for Mike Trout. It would leave the White Sox in the exact same situation the Angels are in....top heavy team in terms of talent but not enough from #6-25 on the roster to make a run at the playoffs.

  13. Morneau had just two at-bats again tonight, with a K. Then pulled again for a PH. They seem to be taking it very slow and carefully with him. Assuming he'll be ready soon might be too aggressive, albeit hopeful. At the very least, he's got to prove he can make it through 4-5 AB's in a game.
  14. If you trade Frazier OR Melky, there's pretty much zero chance to compete next year. Stopping in the middle of rebuilding, then, would make no sense. Then you're going to still keep Robertson in that situation? Why? If some of the minor league starters make progress, you can live without Shields easily enough...and I'm not sure how trading Lawrie makes sense unless they think Saladino's going to put up the same or better numbers and you can actually get something better for him than what the Sox gave up for Lawrie. It's kind of MEH...half-measures, no clear direction again.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 08:10 PM) I'm sure plenty though about it. Just like many thought Sale Fulmer/Danish would only be a reliever due to his odd mechanics.
  16. A DH hitting for a lower OPS number than a defense-first CF tells you everything you need to know. The triumvirate of Robertson/Jones/Duke is fine. Jennings has been pretty good but Ventura has rarely trusted him as a higher leverage guy. The obvious problem is with Albers and everyone else they've tried from AAA. I suppose Ynoa's been a bit better than expected.
  17. Garcia has a 642 OPS now. Does it need to fall below 600 for something to happen?
  18. Yankees' radio announcers asking why Rodon throws EVERYTHING hard and why he hasn't developed a soft/er 3rd pitch, lol??? Even the slider is relatively hard...not having that 10 MPH differential you'd ideally like to see, especially when Rodon is throwing 90-93 MPH fastballs instead of 94-98. DJ and Farmer have been after him for weeks...especially why he's intentionally deciding to throw the fastball at a much more "batting practice" oriented pace in this era of 95+ throwers.
  19. 1. TOR +8 2. BOS +7 3. HOU +6 1/2 GB 4. DET +4 1 1/2 GB 5. KC +3 2 GB 6. CHW/SEA +2 2 1/2 GB 8. NYY -1 4 GB Starting to get some separation now from the top and bottom. DET 44-29 against MLB, 0-11 against CLE
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) I wonder after working with Cooper for so long if Rodon is even capable of throwing 98 anymore. Maybe his arm atrophied. Use it or lose it. Maybe it would be better for the Sox to get a different pitching coach to work with Burdi. He was 95-97/98 at different points his last time out. He was really throwing hard two starts ago. Don't get it.
  21. Rick Hahn is jealous we're not discussing him anymore. Maybe he can run as Trump's VP!!! As far as democracy, SMALL D, goes...China is changing a lot more to the Mao Zedong "command and control" authoritarian style than it ever was during the entire period of Hu Jintao and Wen Jiaobao. Obviously, with economic fortunes turning and the ability of people to organize through social media increasing (not to mention issues with Islamic separatism in western China), they're doubling down in terms of trying to maintain control of the country, propaganda, the RMB/stock market/capital outflows, etc.
  22. 107 hits in 91 IP. That's more Buehrle/Danks-esque. Certainly not what you'd expect from a future ace. Should we just be contented not to have Kolek or Aiken? Career 3.94 ERA with 227 hits in 226+ IP.
  23. QUOTE (Insp @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) How can that be when the Newark Bears no longer exist? http://www.nj.com/essex/index.ssf/2014/04/...city_again.html Sonoma Stompers. More his style, wine country. The team that just had two women playing for them, making history of a sort.
